Gal, Sal and Jordan Allan are all penalty box strikers who really don't offer much else hence any front 2 we play must included Smith or McGill who have more pace to beat players in the wide areas. Agree with most that width is an issue although Watson seemed to offer more against EF before circumstances saw him revert to centre back last Saturday. Quitongo's crossing from the other side ain't great and in turn this probably affects Salim more than anyone as he is the one who wants to get his head on something. What a difference there would be with a Willie McLaren or Craig McPherson.

Ok back to the football and a massive week for Ian Murray. I've never been overly critical of him but I doubt he can survive two home defeats this week, especially with East Fife on Saturday and despite our recent Covid issues. Calum Gallagher has been off the pace all season so hopefully Callum Smith will replace him on Tuesday night as it's unlikely Salim will be fit enough to start, otherwise probably the same team as Saturday.

Peterhead v Airdrie 21/8

That's six. -
Now i wouldn't have batted an eyelid if Murray was sacked at the end of last season but i see no point in dispensing with him now as all it means is that someone new comes in and gets a free hit until the end of season. "It's not my players" "we'll build for next season" etc etc. I'm positive Ian Murray knows that it's promotion or out! We should be careful what we wish for as our recent managerial appointments have been utterly horrendous: Findlay, Aitchison, Wilson, McBride, Wolecki Black!!!!

Back to the football and having watched the highlights i've back tracked on my original thinking. It was a foul by Mclean. -

Wardrop was one i thought would do well but he was extremely naive today! Mclean bought the foul by sticking his leg in his path of which he is was perfectly entitled to do so.. Overall I was actually pleased with Airdrie's performance as in all honesty we were cruising it and looked in no danger until the sending off, Frizzell did ok in what was his debut but i'ts fair to say i'm not a Quitongo fan. -
Wardrop - Not entirely lost faith but got a tonking of Willie Gibson last weekend and didn't make the squad against Montrose. Quitongo - Some will disagree but useless to me. Frizzell - Not played, injured Easton - also been injured but came on as a sub on Saturday. Clearly talented and our big hope. Gallagher - Average but none of our strikers can be judged due to lack of service. Agnew - Needs to hang up the boots, legs have gone. Murray - the swallows are sharpening their beaks

We've got to play to Easton's strength's as he looks to be our most creative player and I don't see playing him in a three in midfield would work even if he is the advanced one. We won't win the ball much with Agnew, McCabe & Easton in there. Scott McGill, admittedly not good yesterday, looks to be the most energetic. Perhaps we need to drop the 3-5-2 as i don't see much threat in the wide positions

The central midfield area is still my big worry with only really McCabe sort of proven. Agnew (who i was a big fan of) is shot unfortunately and although he might produce a great set piece or pass, that's a luxury we can't afford and he is destined for the full time assistant managers job. McDonald simply does not look good enough but as mentioned perhaps is better suited to the wing back role. Mabawsa, again not good enough. Scott McGill may well turn out fine but too early to say. I don't really count Easton as a "midfielder" as he is more of "in the hole" type player. I only see us starting with 1 up front when Easton comes back into the side, which hopefully is next week. Got too add that Willie Gibson's performance yesterday was a joy to watch for a near 37 year old, in fact outstanding regardless of age. A footballing lesson for Sam Wardrop!!
