  1. Looking back over the whole race, my guess would be that Pog had a little top-up of the supplements after his bad day in the first week. It seems Vingegaard saved his for the TT.

  2. Vingegaard had a double helping of EPO for breakfast for sure.

A bit odd that he didn’t back off even slightly in the final 2km to at least make it look like it might have been possible that he’s clean.

The fact that he put nearly 3 minutes into van Aert over a 22k hilly course is, dare I say, impossible.

I think I read somewhere that his Watts spiked by something like 20%. Red flags all over the place.

FWIW I also think Pogacar is also very sus.

And yet, if you went on to the thread on our forum about him (where the personal reasons that he was a bit unsettled last season are clearly explained), most of the people on there would have been happy to have him back - maybe not as first choice, but definitely as an option.

I don't think there's many folk here saying he's not an option as part of the squad. But he's clearly a downgrade on Carson as first choice.

    Nope.

It isn't a level playing field.

Team A might have made all their signing while Team B are still in the process (or waiting for clearance, etc).

A level playing field in a cup competition would be all clubs having their full squads in place (regardless of league placing).

Effectively,  what you are suggesting is that the preseason only runs to the middle of July?

I don't understand the logic here.

In that case, it wouldn't be a level playing field if a team signed a player in the January window only to play him in a Scottish Cup game. Said team would have a distinct unfair advantage then.

Montrose, Spartans and Stenhousemuir had the exact same date as we did for the beginning of the cup competition. The defeat lies squarely on us. Not on the format or anything being unfair.

OK then, we might as well tell players not to enjoy their close-season, they must keep match fit. We must tell guys who want to leave for other clubs not to do so. We must make all our new signings the week after the last season ends, so they will A. Be fit, and B. Can fully integrate into their new team both on and off the pitch.

St Mirren, for example should not be waiting on international clearance for one striker, and waiting on the paperwork to be dotted and crossed for an as yet un-named striker. We should have got rid of Carson and Main feckin’ ages ago. We should simply not have guys like McMenamin and Mandron still learning their new team-mates names. We should not have a manager trying new players in new formations in early July. Robinson should know his best team, his best formation, and how the new signings fit into that right off the bat.

Finally, fcuk the transfer window still having ages of time to run - that just fcuks things up even more.

Look, I admit St Mirren fully deserve an arse kicking for meek losses to (no offence) Montrose, but as has been pointed out, we were guff in this LC Group pish last season, but went on to have a good Top 6 season where we even managed to get results against the uglies and were sniffing Hibs for Europe. Why is that?

It is down to the format, IMHO. In great part. I want Robbo’ to have us ready for it, but when it transpires (again) that we look in re-build mode, trying to gain match fitness mode, and so on, I won’t demand his sacking over it. I get it, and he’ll have us ready for the league season, for sure. I don’t like it, I won’t apologise for not liking it, so ya boo sucks, etc.

Of course Montrose are famous for having had the same squad and manager, with no comings and goings, since 1879.

It works both ways, Montrose are also in "pre-season" and shaping a squad and working on shape and tactics. It's no excuse for slipping up to a third tier outfit.

It's rank rotten whichever way you look at it.

I'm all for remaining positive and upbeat and the team will have my full backing come the first league game. But I can't get onboard with the happy clapping and hearing about how similar it is to last season when Montrose are in the same boat - if not an even more difficult position than us - and can still beat us.

It's a horrific result and we can't blame the format. All clubs in the cup at this stage are in the same poisition.

    It's not good enough.

  6. The Henderson move is best for all concerned.

Jay is at an age where he needs to be playing football. He's a talented young boy, but most likely wasn't going to be a regular for us.

County are getting a good young player and we are getting a decent development fee and freeing up another wage.

Similarly to Brophy, I hope he goes to County and does well.

Wait - we got at least £100,000 for Brophy? That is seriously mental.  He was even injured while on loan to them 😂😂

Is he even fit now? His injury at County seemed to have ruled him out for a good while again. In know he made the trip to Belfast, but has he actually recovered yet?

I do feel bad for Brophy. It's always a shame when a promising player with a bright future is blighted by injury. I hope he does well at County.

Does the ticket office ever answer the phone? I have tried a number of times without success.

Not sure if anybody on here would know how the finance option works for season tickets? It doesn't appear as though I can buy online, hence why I'm trying to contact the ticket office. I can't go in person, unfortunately.

To take up the finance option you have to go in to the ticket office in person to set it up.

I don't think much of you were complaining at the time, though?

From memory, most raised an eyebrow over the signing - and particularly the rumoured wage he was on - but gave Goodwin and Brophy the bebefit of the doubt.

Almost 3 years on and it has been an unmitigated disaster.

Getting him off the books may be our best piece of business this summer.

Best of luck to him though.

See this is where a pro-active social media team would recognise the supporters getting antsy with a lack of news then throws out some red meat for the twitter crowd. It could be something completely unrelated to strips or signings, but it would let steam off a little. Now, to be fair, it's not complete silence from them, but it's pretty much "by the numbers" stuff.

All of the things folk are moaning to be made public should absolutely not be made public knowledge. It's all business matters and should, quoite rightly, be kept behind closed doors.

  11. As many have said, he was the first Scotland manager that I recall in my lifetime. Euro 96 and France 98 will be ingrained in my memory forever.

As a young 8/10 year old I just naturally assumed those were the norm.

I've always had a soft spot for those Scotland teams and for Craig Brown in general.

A sad day for Scottish football. RIP.

  12. Whilst Baccus was a pretty good find, was he the player we thought we had on our hands after his first 5-10 appearances.

He was good. Is he irreplacable? No. I'd expect the manager has a similar type of player already lined up and we move on.

If Baccus goes then the absolute best of luck to him and tha ks for everything.

    Things move on.

As for £275k, he's entering the final year of his contract and, to be perfectly honest, he hasn't emerged as the player we thought we had initially. If we can edge anywhere close to £500k all in then that;s decent business.
