  1. Lanark are mid-table in the 3rd division in the WoSFL. The fourth tier in the west. A league below Kilsyth.

St Andrews away to Kennoway. Still hoping for an away day to St Andrews 🙂. Next round please. Assuming we do get through.

Tomorrow’s game must be in doubt. Horrendous weather at the moment and it’s to stay that way for 24 hours. Rain, rain and more rain.

I am not far from Cowdenbeath and it has been ok here. It was windy and still is, but we never had anywhere near the forecasted rain and not raining now. Not even any puddles in the garden and the wind is drying the ground. If it's similar at the ground then I would think it will be ok. Just miserable to watch it in 🙁. Not sure if Central got much rain though.

  3. Not unexpected yesterday. We need a fully fit team to compete with the better teams in the league.

Cumbernauld are a good team. Really fit and they all have good touch and control. I feel sorry for them, as they have little or no fans.

We need the injuries to clear up and then we can start moving up the league. Hopefully MacPherson gets a run of games now and can go on a scoring streak. We just need better service to him upfront and that will come if the injuries clear up.

  4. It's a shame. Sadly, at the moment, it takes even more money than this to be serious about promotion back to League 2. If you don't have the money, which most clubs don't, then you need a shrewd manager and shrewd recruitment. Even then the likes of EK can still be too strong. Maybe if they finally go up this season the Lowland League might be wide open next season.

Hopefully you don't nosedive after this.

Bit of fun, If you could pick the draw for the 1st round  of the Cup, who would you take?

A long road trip to some far flung outpost like Wick, a ‘glamour’ tie against the megamoneyed galaticos from East Kilbride or simply the lowest ranked team to give us best chance of progress?

I don’t want a boring LL team like Broomhill, CSS or anyone like that, no disrespect. There are bunch of East Of Scotland teams through this year, some of them away would be really tough, as would some of the West Of Scotland teams.

I’m going to go for Dalkeith Thistle away as my dream pick. They are the only EOS 2nd division team through so have really done well.  My daughter plays for one of Thistle’s girls team now and got a bit of gentle stick when turning up for training in a Cowden top from the coach, so revenge would be sweet. 😀  I’ve not seen a match at Kings Park, but know the park it’s situated in, and it looks a neat wee enclosure.

I would like an away trip to Clachnacuddin or Deveronvale or Formantine or Nairn or Turriff or Golspie or Strathspey or St Andrews or Tayport or Wick.

No disrespect to any of them, but don't want a trip away to a team from the west and don't want anyone in the Lowland League.

Much as I like going to Berwick as well, I hope we aren't drawn away to them.

  6. With a fully fit squad, I think we would comfortably win today, maybe even win by a big margin, but 4 key players out will make a difference. Hopefully we still play well enough to get a good win, but it wouldn't be a surprise if we draw or lose. The players on the fringes of the team are starting to play better as well. I assume Calum will have to watch from the stand today.

On the early train down via Edinburgh. Hopefully no train issues 🙂, although the first train we were planning to get was cancelled and ScotRail are not even on strike!

We only had the original stand back then, so all tickets were for that or limited standing behind one goal or either side of stand. No segregation,  point is we gave you the number of tickets you asked for, 200 from memory.

Secod game was sellout for both of your stands, which is the point I have been trying to make. You took 100% of those tickets. You gave us nothing but the chance to pay to stand , no cover, no seats.  Shameful.

We received 125 tickets for the game at K Park. As for the second leg at CP, it was not ticketed, so how could the stands be sold out? The new stand would have been full fairly quickly, but there was room in the old stand. I was there and there were fans supporting EK next to me.

When you say a lot of fans how many would that be approximately?

The whole concept of a shirt sponsor is that their brand is seen and visible as is with trackside and programe web etc. particularly important for local and expanding SME's as a relativelty cost effective way to extend reach and build local engagement.

Get a grip. The front of shirt sponsor will not make a penny from sponsorship of Cowden. They know that full well. If they were meticulous with every pound spent on advertising the business, they wouldn't go near sponsoring a Lowland League club. I was only stating a personal preference. You guys do an amazing job for club, but you are a bit over touchy 🙂.

I am seldom lost for words but wow !

Why? A lot of fans have the same opinion. In fact, I remember some posts in recent years asking if the top was available without the sponsor.

As someone who managed to get 3 sponsors on board I think they are bothered. They are parting with cash to support the club with very little in return if anything. I think their logo on the shirt (the product we are actually selling is key!).

Very good signing in Matty Mcdonald. A midfielder with quality and an eye for goal. He scored 2 very good goals against us last season!!!.🙈..  the one at Central Park especially was a cracker.

Excellent work and the other sponsors on the strip look actually look good. I was just stating a personal preference. The red in the Collier logo and the size of the logo clashes with the colour of the strip.

Personally I think most sponsors on the front ruin the look, but beggars can't be choosers.

What I meant re some sponsors not being that bothered, is that at lower levels they know the limited exposure is not going to make any difference to their business. Like Collier or Subsea for instance. Being on a Cowden top isn't going to make them any money. They don't do it for that reason.

    That's a strange one.

You'd think with the amount sponsors are paying to have their logo on the shirt, they'd expect the shirts to be sold with the logo so people are walking around promoting their company.

Shouldn't be an option to have without.

And agreed, £49 is far too expensive. If you intend to buy the shirt, buy from the club shop and not Football Nation.

I think at this level the sponsors aren't so bothered.

  12. A pound short of £50 for the new top! We must easily be the most expensive in the League at that price. I would actually pay more for it without the front sponsor. I see EK sell theirs with or without the sponsor (£3 extra for the sponsor printed on).

Strange one that on a two year deal. Poor player who has struggled again at Cowdenbeath last season.

Yeah, strange. We finished 15th in the Lowland League and we released him. Was ok when playing at start of season, but as I said, we finished 15th and could have been worse if it wasn't for Dalbeattie and Edinburgh Uni.

Gretna definately chosing the SOS rather than EOS where they previously played before the Lowland League was formed?

Its unlikely that if Edinburgh Uni get relegated next season they will play in the EOS with most of these players plus there is a whole year and a few months since their wins in the cup. Long time in football.

Yeah. Edinburgh Uni must be really unpredictable. I assume, maybe wrongly, that they only field current students, assuming they don't already play for another team (our best player from last season is an Edinburgh Uni student). Is there a rule re who can play for them?

Uni of Stirling are a bit different, as they attract some decent players, as they specialise in sports courses.

It’s a 2 horse race with EK and Tranent followed by Berwick , we won’t be near it

Don't want to tempt fate, but we (Cowden) are looking like we will be vastly improved on the season just ended. All the new signings look decent, not just a few of them. The business we are doing and the speed at which we are doing it is something I have never seen in all the years supporting the club. All of this was arranged before we were given the shock cup invite as well. It's well and truly like night and day compared to last season. We won't know of course until we start actually playing matches again, but if things go well, we could be a serious challenger. Not something most of us thought would be the case.

LG2 is sustainable 100% looking at the other clubs that have survived there for a long period. I'd love Cowden to come back up also by the way & been a couple of good signings todsy to help that objective.

I know we are where we are because of Dean's investment, but I also know how shitely run plenty of other clubs are. We are in good shape despite a reduced budget as we spent money on structure. Deep down I feel we can average L2 over the next decade with some ups & downs for sure.

I am not so sure that other clubs are badly run. More a case of them simply not having enough income. Most of the teams in League 2 simply do not generate anywhere near enough revenue to meet their costs.
