  1. I think the board are viewing Gus in the same way as they did McCall initially - a "big name" that we are lucky to have. It's ridiculous.
  2. Seems only fair that he gets the opportunity to make amends after relegating us.
  3. I like to think I do give credit when it is due, and after the Aberdeen match McLaughlan got plenty from me, as did the whole team. He has a lot of work to do to erase the memories from earlier in the season though, where to me he looked lost, clueless and uninterested most of the time. I suppose they are claims that can be directed at a lot of the team though. I would say already that the PotS awards will be shared between Craig Reid and Stephen McKenna, our most consistent performers, and the only two who looked like their heart was in it earlier in the season.
  4. Following on from your gem that Weatherston had great work-rate, I can only assume you have very low expectations of work-rate, or no idea what you're on about! Either that or you have blanked out the first half of the season (understandable, not a lot happened, we lost mostly). McLaughlan is a very limited player, with a poor attitude. He does indeed get himself in some good scoring positions, and can't be far off our top scorer. He is ridiculously slow in returning to the position he is meant to be in after finding himself in these goalscoring positions though. In his defence I am certain that wide midfield isn't his strongest position, I'm not entirely sure where is though. His set-pieces are absolutely woeful as well. As I said on the match thread though, the Aberdeen game was comfortably his best showing for us because he actually put in a shift. As it stands though he is one of the worst of a bad bunch and far from deserving special praise. All in my opinion of course.
  5. Annoyed and disappointed by this signing. The midfield has been our weakness since Gus came in, not addressing this, and wasting a wage on a player we don't need is criminal. Smacks of "jobs for the boys".
  6. Just to reiterate this for those that don't understand.
  7. We have signed numerous players on loan in the past. The problem is that for every Jamie Macdonald or Robbie Neilson there are about 5 Steven Kinniburghs or Craig Sives. The difference this season is we have plenty of our own young players knocking on the first team door, and I would much rather we blood our own youngsters than "help out" another club by giving their youths game time. A left-midfielder is essential IMO, if our only business this season is to sign Willie Gibson I will be happy. If we can punt Simmons and/or McLaughlan and/or Campbell I would be delighted.
  8. We won't be signing anyone that we have to pay a fee for (i.e. already contracted to a club), so the transfer window is pretty irrelevant to us.
  9. Anyone else heard the rumour of Simmons to Annan on loan? Sounds like wishful thinking to me but the person I heard it from should be privy to the goings on in Annan.
  10. How so? I get the impression he might be the sort to have delusions above his ability, AKA Nicklas Bendtner Syndrome.
  11. Knight has a list of clubs the length of your arm, and a history of being an arse. The fact he did look promising but quickly fell out of the picture probably tells you all you need to know about what went on behind the scenes. Still, Brannigan-bashing has always been fair game so carry on.
  12. I'm afraid to say my days of just blindly turning up on matchday and paying whatever is asked of me may also be coming to an end. It's not really an entertainment vs cost dilemma because I'm realistic enough to appreciate both why it costs what it does, and also why the standard is so poor. Queens (and football as a whole) are one of my main hobbies/past times so I am pretty happy to pay whatever it takes in normal circumstances. The main reason though is how going to watch Queens has made me feel this season. Angry from time to time, but perhaps more worryingly, just really, really unhappy. There has been very little, if any, enjoyment for the fans, with each turgid affair blending into the next. I pretty much want to leave as soon as I get to the game, which is why I've started questioning going in the first place. I think the massive overhaul of the squad is the key, and not just in terms of the reduction in ability. I feel no affinity with any of the players, and it is pretty evident they feel the same way about the club (I would put Craig Reid and Steven McKenna as exceptions to this). It all just adds to a horrible atmosphere around the club at the minute.
  13. Need to dig out the programme for the details but my first game was as a 7 year old in the 1994/95 season against Berwick Rangers. We won 5-4 but I'd be lying if I said I could remember anything about the game. Pretty much been a regular ever since, with my Dad taking me to every home game. My first "away day" would've been our first Challenge Cup Final up in Motherwell, which still rates as one of my favourite footballing days out. I can remember big Degsy's miss as clearly as if it had happened yesterday. Another notable game from my childhood was the Dumbarton game where Tommy Bryce scored all four goals in a 4-0 win. My mate was the mascot that day. Amusingly said mates nephew was the mascot at the Morton 4-1 game from this season. Lucky family!
  14. Nice though it would be, I'm afraid dyed-in-the-wool Queens fans who are also good footballers are hard to come by.
  15. I was told last night that we are taking Annan's Aaron Muirhead on trial either next week or the one after. Presumably as he is a signed Annan player this means he will be training with us to allow Gus and Andy to have a look at him.
  16. I'll look into it over the weekend. I only have one set and want a second for the same reason as you. Cheers.
  17. Cheers. It'll be for things like my X-Box controllers, wireless mouse or tv remote.
  18. Rechargeable batteries, talk to me. I have this and I would like some new batteries for it. Will any old batteries do assuming they are of the same calibre (not sure if that is the right phrase), i.e. 2300mAh NiMH or do I have to stick with UniRoss?
  19. Likewise for me. The deserving candidates on the list are well before my time and I don't want to vote for someone I've never seen play. Nor do I want to vote for the likes of Rowe or Mallan who I have seen!
  20. Nicky Clark did pretty well off the bench on Saturday, he could easily have scored with a bit more luck. Brighton is a pretty good player to have on the bench as well, too good IMO. Or are only games that are being considered for your theory the ones that support it, i.e. the early season ones where we had injuries and suspensions?
