  1. Play to his strengths and you've a real gem. Punt aimless balls in his general direction and expect him to chase them, you're wasting your time. Assuming he is over the injury that troubled him towards the end of last season he should easily manage 10+ goals for you and numerous assists.
  2. Indeed, I can't think of any other real howlers. Also as big a mistake the one against County was, it didn't cost us the game IMO, it was an abject team performance from the first minute.
  3. Haha touché! I'm nightshift or I would probably attend, as the ones last season appear to have been very successful.
  4. Is that the "Meet the Management" that the Trust organised?
  5. You're talking about quite large amounts of money their SD, not necessarily in business terms but when you bare in mind it is individuals or groups of. What is to the credit of the various people as well is the fact that they were so happy to chuck money at the club out of blind loyalty, despite it being widely accepted that those in charge of the finances had made such a mess of them. Not the sort of venture people are normally keen to give money too. I know it's not a particularly big deal, and the money raised probably barely covers one of the U19s wages for a week, but for me the thing that summed up the shambolic out-of-touch nature of the club last season was the ALBA scarfs. For the club to not have the savvy to knock together a commemorative scarf for the occasion is scandalous. Clubs the size of Queens are normally straight on the merchandise bandwagon when an opportunity arises, they certainly milked our Scottish cup run and subsequent UEFA cup game. There was, and still is an impression that the fans groups are better run than the club itself! This may or not be the case but their efforts really shouldn't be belittled.
  6. I see where you're coming from but paying wages that high at our level is scandalous regardless of how good the player is. Cutting the wage bill is the quickest way to reduce our outgoings. The level of our ambition appears to be maintaining first division status if this can be done cheaper then it's a no brainer.
  7. I would assume the £300 a week will be enhanced by bonuses. If it is indeed true. Drastic it may be but a wage in that bracket certainly offers the club better value for money than the stupidity of alleged wages in the £1000 a week bracket for the likes of Kean, Holmes and Lilley.
  8. I suppose the obvious retort to that description would be "well we need a replacement for McLaren". Of course in between being a lazy b*****d (an opinion I don't actually share) McLaren was of course a goal scorer, creator and capable of winning games single handedly. Can any of that be said about Corcoran?
  9. I don't understand all the negativity towards McKenzie either. Yes he might not be as young or as agile as Hutton but I thought he organised the defence a damn sight better than Hutton did which was important considering our captain spent most of the season sidelined due to either injury or suspension.
  10. Went from player of the year the season before to an erratic bombscare. Suffered an injury last pre-season which didn't help his cause, neither did playing in a back 3. Gives away too many silly fouls mostly for blatant shirt pulling. Bound to stroll through division 2 with a full pre-season behind him though.
  11. Well he must've done it very quietly first time round because he was completely anonymous. He didn't show any sort of work rate, or willingness to either tackle or get involved in an attacking sense so I don't see how he can be described as "workmanlike". Raith fans inform us that he likes to "try and find passes, but doesn't score a lot". I know it is pushing it to call that "flair" but surely it is closer to that than workmanlike?
  12. I wouldn't want another Bowser but that's a different argument entirely. As my signature says "in Gus we trust" and if he thinks Simmons can do a job then fair enough, I'll give him a chance. My main concern is that when Gus was appointed several St Mirren fans told us to expect a solid and workmanlike team. Simmons doesn't fit that criteria, and if he is to be the "flair player" amongst a team of solid hard-workers then I'm worried.
  13. I'm in the "Simmons is honking" camp as well. An absolute passenger during his time with us. Games just seem to pass him by and he appears to have no motivation to try and get involved to rectify this. I hope we sign some strikers who can create chances for themselves because a midfield of McKenna and Simmons offers nothing in a creative sense.
  14. I'm a big fan of Quinn. Composed on the ball, can pick a pass and chip in with a few goals although perhaps not as many as he should. Doesn't necessarily like to do the dirty work all that much so gets accused of being lazy but it's not really a problem with a "McKenna" beside him.
  15. I work a mix of dayshift and nightshift and although I would say I prefer nights, I'm happy to have the variety. There are two definite advantages to nightshift for me; largely being left to your own devices to work in peace, and not having to get up at the un-Godly hour of 4.45am which is when I have to get up for dayshift. I am very much a night time person anyway so working at the un-Godly hour of 4.45am doesn't bother me before anyone points this out. I am definitely more tired on a day shift than a night shift.
  16. Does anyone know Scally's position now that the new management team are in place?
  17. The Mark Robertson rumour seems fairly well known so I assume it is true. He will offer some much needed business nous to a board who seem sadly lacking in that sense. As for the "restructuring" I have heard that will entail the other board members having more of a say rather than just Davie Rae. Surely that should've been the case from day one?
  18. Delighted with the appointment even if it should've been done weeks ago. I hear Weatherston and McGuffie are going to sign new contracts soon as well so the good news continues, particularly in the case of McGuffie who was immense last season. Possible captain material?
  19. I must say that when I read the comments on the OS about there being an applicant from Wales Hartson did spring to mind. Very unlikely I'd imagine but he has expressed an interest in management.
  20. Easily. I'm gutted, even though I knew it was going to happen.
  21. I don't think you'll find anyone that disagrees with that. He did say Chisholm was one of the reasons though not that he was entirely to blame. I don't think anyone will ever understand the baffling decision to back Chisholm to the hilt for a promotion push that was never going to happen, and wouldn't be possible even if it did. Not with out incurring even further debt through groundsharing etc.
  22. I'm not hugely suprised. I mentioned previously about the assumption that part time is automatically cheaper being inaccurate. So much hinges on the managerial appointment though.
  23. This won't happen. Although it wasn't on the same level as Brannigan, McCall didn't leave Queens on the greatest of terms with the Chairman.
