  1. Home top is ok, away top is rank. White and blue might've made it acceptable but the black just makes it look like an Ayr top. Also all blue home kit, is that a first?
  2. Dan wasn't 27 when he made the jump though. I don't have a problem with us looking at him, in fact I think it's a good thing. As the biggest side in D&G we should always be looking to snap up the best local talent. In this case though I tend to think if he was going to turn professional he would've done it by now.
  3. Great stuff. Surprised about McShane but if Magic thinks he's worth another year then that's good enough for me.
  4. At the end of the day Palmerston is a million miles away from being SPL compliant, and the clubs finances are a million miles away from doing anything about that, be it re-development, or re-location - in short, we are a million miles away from being an SPL club. We had stagnated in the First Division, and were throwing money at a pretty fruitless exercise. Even the high-spending "McCall/Chisholm years" didn't see us put in a sustained title challenge, making it money completely wasted. This relegation should be a step back for several forward. That doesn't mean chucking money at it so we return first time only to find ourselves back to square one and in the financial mire again. I have always felt that the existing board have always lacked any sort of forward planning. That, to me, is the most important thing for the new board to look at more than anything else. If the structure is correct then the club will reach it's natural level, whatever that may be. The previous board made a financial commitment to the youth set-up which needs to continue or again it will be a waste of time. These youngsters need to be made ready for the first team, and added to existing players signed on affordable contracts from a set budget. Any profit should be used on off-field ventures rather than frittered on extra players. It's easy saying this before a ball has been kicked, but my feeling just now is that I would rather watch a sustainable, well run club in Division 2, than watch us chuck money away just to be mediocre in Division 1.
  5. I don't love or hate him as I don't know much about him, and I can't think of anything he has done that would polarise the support like that? I also agree with qos1990 that the test of his success will be in the seasons ahead, not after one year. What I am happy about though is the fact we are deeming the position of 19s coach important enough to employ someone specifically to do it rather than palming it off to an ageing member of the first team squad á la Scally and Johnston. I don't mean to belittle the job either have done, but to me it indicates the new Chairman is serious about the youth set up, which can only be positive in my book. In answer to Monkey Tennis, it is things like that which leave me feeling positive about the club, rather than any arrogant thoughts on a prospective title challenge next season. Strange though it may sound, the last few years have seen me less interested in league position (particularly as only 3/10 actually count for anything in the First Division). The season just finished was a shambles on the park and ultimately lead to relegation, but previous seasons have been almost as shambolic, and left me equally disillusioned despite reasonable league finishes. It's bad enough when the product on the park is a mess, without the ones running it behind the scenes being just as bad. I know the board will be hoping that our stint in Division Two is a short one, but I'll be happy next season to see the structure of the club sorted from top-to-bottom, and the team playing as entertaining football as is possible on a budget the size of ours. I can't help but think if the background work is done properly, success will follow.
  6. Too early to start the "Good Feeling at Palmerston" thread?
  7. Hard to argue with MB's list, although I'm also not a big fan of Robinson. I wouldn't be devastated if he was still with us next year.
  8. Rumour on Facebook that Gavin Reilly has been released? The page has now been updated to say that it is Smiley not Reilly that has been released. No surprise on that one, he isn't very good.
  9. Yep just those two, which is two more than they have ever had before (that I can remember anyway).
  10. Bollan wants the job - link. Bit strange that STV have had all the "scoops" on Queens of late considering they don't even broadcast in Dumfries.
  11. "The club would like to announce that Gus MacPherson and Andy Millen have left the club with immediate effect. Both the club ,Gus and Andy agreed that it was in the best interests of both parties that we make the change now. The Directors of QOS would like to take this opportunity to thank Gus and Andy for all of their efforts in what has been a difficult season for all involved at the club. We wish them well for the future." I don't, I hope there next shite is a hedgehog and that they never get another job in football.
  12. I don't really understand what the statement means or what it refers to so I don't know if it is appropriate or not.
  13. There is no room for sentiment when running a business, just look at the balance sheets from Davie Rae's time as chairman, he had the clichéd blue and white blood, but was a shit businessman. Robertson has been brought in to sort this out, a move that was welcomed by most. For people to say the club is dying because the kit-man has been paid off is as I say - bizarre. I don't recall anyone threatening to stop supporting the club when Mark McMinn was replaced as Commercial Director (or whatever his title was). He's a diehard Queens fan (whatever that is). Total over-reaction. Was it not mentioned in one of the "Board Blogs" that the club were hoping to get the youth players more involved with the day-to-day running of the club? Sounds like they will replace "Blacko", and perhaps other related roles. Seems sensible.
  14. Because we've allegedly sacked the kitman? Seems like a bit of an overreaction!
  15. I'm probably being extremely naive and unrealistic but after this season and Gus's mentality of sucking all enjoyment out of football I would settle for being remotely entertained next season. A young ambitious manager in the mould of a McInnes/Pressley etc. supplementing a squad largely made up of our own youth players with the odd bit of experience in essential areas (see Darren Dods at Falkirk). It might not be any more successful than the dizzy heights our experienced manager and players have taken us to this season, in all likelihood it may be less so (I doubt a squad made up as I suggest would be capable of the disciplined performance away to Aberdeen for example). It might make it slightly more appealing to part with money to watch the team though. The sad and more likely scenario is the board will stick with Gus, he will sign a squad of his old buddies (no pun intended) who are now coming to the end of their careers and are happy to go through the motions in the 2nd division. He will probably clog us to a play-off position, which ultimately ends in disappointment but is painted as a success due to the massive cutbacks he has faced. All the young boys will f**k off due to lack of first team opportunities, and we will remain in the 2nd signing squad of diddies, after squad of diddies.
  16. I won't be back until Gus is gone. We need a McInnes or Pressley type manager - young and ambitious, not another journeyman like Calderwood. I'd give Johnston a shot.
  17. Who manages sellick 19s and does he have a tendency to bottle it at Hampden like his first team counterpart?
  18. That I could handle, I dread to think what would happen if I had the cheek to show up with a bag several centimetres out of spec.!
  19. Do they provide you with clear plastic bags for your toiletries at Edinburgh airport? If not how fussy are they about the ones you bring yourself as I have one which is 25x27cm but they are meant to be 20x20cm? For those scared of answering, I promise I'm not a terrorist.
  20. It isn't that much of a surprise when you consider how ridiculously one dimensional our managers tactics are. There isn't a "Plan B" in sight.
