  1. WTF are those? I have no idea. Big spikes sticking out of them.
  2. So we are doing a 1 year holiday: golf, cycling tour of New Zealand. We started 2 weeks ago and have played 9 games so far. Over the winter my handicap has slipped up from about 6 to right now 9.1. Muriwai 84 (12+), South Head 84 (+11) Tapora 78 (+6) Northern Wairoa 80 (+8) Northern Waioroa 91 (+19) Kaitaia 85 (+13) Kaitaia 78 (+6) Houhora 77 (+5) Houhora 83 (+8) So just one shocker of a round at Northern Wairoa, where the wheels really came off, everywhere else I almost play to my handicap.
  3. The message being sent is YOU need to buy a bigger house.
  4. Found these ugly specimens washed up on the beach near Cape Reinga in New Zealand after a big storm. There were many others.
  5. Let’s set one thing straight, Kaitaia Golf Club is NOT 90 miles long, it’s only 5573m. Yesterday’s nightmare of slushing about on flooded fairways is forgotten after today’s 6 over par round in windy conditions. Kaitaia - like The Old Course at St Andrews only in New Zealand and on the west not east coast. The picture of the men in the sea is them collecting mussel spat (young shellfish) which were brought to shore after the storm.
  6. I go to the theatre a lot, always have. Plays, who-dunnits, musicals even opera. I was back in Scotland about 3 years ago at Tattoo time and went to see a brilliant one man show about Jockey Scott (the seventies? darts guy). Never laughed so much in my life.
  7. 4th game in 6 days on our tour of NZ courses. Bombing them straight down the middle at the moment but letting myself down with my irons and chipping. Today’s 80 less handicap of 8 left me right on par 72. Probably staying at Baylys Beach tonight.
  8. Yesterday’s game at South Head was trumped today by Tapora’s link style course. I had a 6 over par 78 although we were only counting two putts because or the “agricultural” nature of the greens. The round was $10 each, money in the honesty box, and the ONLY other person we saw was a green keeper (local farmer) for about half-an-hour. Although three llamas watched our tee shots on the 6th with great interest.
  9. A new day a new adventure! This is us starting (in the middle of winter) our year long trip round New Zealand. We hope we have sorted out all the initial teething difficulties with the motorhome. Leisurely sightseeing, cycling, golf and hokey pokey ice cream are our aims. There are nearly 400 courses in New Zealand so we won’t get round them all in a year. We didn’t go far the first day, stopping by the beach at Muriwai. Very blustery conditions but I played well and finished with 84.
