  1. I'm flabbergasted! I won the best Nett Medal competition in the "Masters" section of the The Bream Bay Classic at Waipu Golf Club, with rounds of 86, 83 and 81 (less my 10 handicap). We played 27 holes on both Saturday and Sunday, I'm knackered now. I lost two balls in the first round, but was really pleased with the rest, as the greens had been rolled and cut and were lightning fast, with horrible pin positions. My winnings were $100 and the biggest smile on my face! I came 10th in the best Gross.
  2. We'll done, and good luck in the next round. I qualified in ours too, but we play "off-the-stick" in the later knockout stages.
  3. Keep at it. One half good round is all it takes to turn a corner to get back on track.
  4. About 3 months ago I managed to get my handicap down below 10 for the first time in my life, and I seem to be keeping it there. Being older, I struggle with my body at times and as a result I'm lacking in clubhead speed but seem to be keeping it on the fairways better than most. Don't panic and keep playing. New Picture.bmp
  5. I I had a cracking 3 over par round the other day at Redwood Park. It kinda came out of the blue.
  6. I played with 4 mates in a team best-ball (scramble) type competition yesterday. We finished with 8 birdies and 10 pars and were still 5 shots off the winners! Still the weather was sunny, the beer cold, the BBQ's great and I won 3 balls a chipping contest.
  7. These are my scores over the past month. I'm getting to be Mr Reliable - lowest 76, highest 84 Gotta get out and practice my chipping and putting a bit more.
  8. Here I am with my balls out! Nearest the pin, lowest Gross and high Stableford all won me some balls. AND I won The Waiuku Cup! Fame, fortune and celebrity status here I come.
  9. Currently 10.3. projected to be 9.8 on 22 Feb.
  10. Having sharpened up my chipping and putting with lessons, I've been on fire lately: On Sunday I was 4 up with 4 to play before the inter-club competition was abandoned due to rain / flooding. We have to replay. Yesterday from a field of 52, I had the lowest gross 76 (5 over par) and the highest stableford at 41 points. Won myself $20 and 4 balls.
  11. I smashed my previous best score at one of my local clubs a couple of days ago (previous best 78 this round a two over par 73). I don't really know how it happened, but want more of the same please.
  12. I played in a 3-day competition last week - Fri, Sat, Sun There were over 80 golfers. I had three so-so rounds of 84, 85 and 81, which meant I finished 11th in Div 2 (over 55's) and 20th overall. I hit a long drive to win a bottle of Moet, and a "two" got me 3 Titleist balls, my Stableford points got me a bottle of wine, an umbrella and another 3 balls. Not bad considering the three days golf only cost $120 (about 60 quid)
  13. The only good thing about this Bates stuff is that its giving our full-time players time to get their story straight over that terrible Stranraer result. I hope they are embarrassed.
  14. Not trying to rub it in but, I'm playing nearly every day just now! :-)
  15. Thanks for that! I've just finished playing 10 different courses in 10 days as we toured the North Island here in new Zealand, I think it helped improve my game because I didn't think about the overall score (no expectation) and had to just concentrate on one shot at a time. Rororua 78, Whakatane 82, Opotiki 82, Te Puia Springs 77, Gisborne 83, Maraenui 88 then 81, Taupo 81, Cambridge 81 and Formosa 82. All fairly good scores (apart from the first game at Maraenui) so they should help pull my handicap (usually 10) down a bit more. I'm still thinking I need better results when putting . Anyway thanks for your encouragement.
  16. That's a good point, as I did seem to have mostly long first putts. It was just a game with a mate on his home course. I still think my putting could improve though. I'm gonna try to find a coach.
  17. I was really pleased with my Tiger'esque effort of 38 for tees to greens but I was as grumpy as Montgomery with my 38 putts! Still 76 gross less 10 left me 5 under. I've gotta go see a putting coach.
  18. I've been playing a lot better over the past month. Long may it continue. I'm currently on 11.2 , I can't seem to get down to single figures.
  19. How about hiking the tax on bullets by say 1000%?
  20. IF we were to be awarded a penalty today, who would you want to take it?
