Had all the lame Chuck Berry songs last couple of days and Chucks version of Johnny B Good is really lame compared with Johnny Winters version now stuck in my head.

I bit the bullet and I'm taking lessons in a bid to get to single figure handicap (currently 11.8). Playing great at times then I have serious brain fades. Par front 9 , followed by 10 over for back 9. First lesson was really just basics - my posture had slumped a wee bit and my hands were too strong and I was over-swinging a little. Second lesson was putting - looking at hole while practicing (rather than at ball), blind putting (committing to stroke), two ball challenge etc You can teach old dogs new tricks!

Coming back to form. Had a 6 over par 75 that included 4 birdies but only 5 pars. My handicap is currently 12.0 so that's going to be cut.

http://www.formosa.co.nz/en/ Played this course yesterday for the second time. Had a 91 the first time and managed 86 yesterday less 14 = 72 par. Its a cracking course with a few lovely individual holes but sadly the whole course could do with a bit more maintenance than its getting.

Try to think positively about your own game - shot choice, posture, swing, grip etc and avoid blaming your score on the conditions.

But the shoes look wrong. 'Brothel-creepers' went with Sta-prest.

Excellent time had by all. Played eight different courses on successive days: Harewood in Christchurch Ben Ohau Omarama Otematata Kurow North Otago Timaru and Harewood (again) Managed to be just below or just over my handicap on all of them.

Ah. It rains a lot. South Island is colder than North. Up near Auckland it very rarely gets anywhere near freezing.

Great! Is hot near Auckland. We need to apply plenty of sun-block.

Going down to Christchurch area for a weeks golfing, going to try some new courses.

That's a turn for the better.

and the result was?

I played well today in a match-play competition. Started well and got 4 up quickly and then traded halves and odd holes to hold on for a 5up with 4 to play. The most pleasing aspect was my short play, which if not spectacular, was definitely solid. [emoji1] I'm still hanging onto my 11 handicap on my local course.

Thing is I regularly go for an hours practice on my short game and it all seems pretty solid, but when I'm playing it all seems to go out the window. I cannae fathom it at all.

Cardigans are a recipe for disaster.
