  1. The biggest concern for me yesterday wasn’t necessarily the defeat itself - that was pretty expected away from home against one of the league’s top sides at a venue we struggle at - it was the scoreline and the whole vibe of the game that worries me. We had built up momentum over recent weeks and had the rock rolling down the hill but now we’re in danger of just running out of steam ahead of the final push.

This group has not had a great record to say the least in big games this season and next week is massive. Lose and it’s prepare for the playoff. Win and even then the work isn’t done, we’ll need at least three wins out of this final group of games to have a chance.

I hope the players are ready for that.

  2. Looking at the schedule, I’d be looking to take most of April off if not all of it if I were Bob and his team. He shouldn’t play next week and then he won’t get into the Masters and Hilton Head as a signature event. He could possibly play with Laird at the Zurich as a nice palate cleanser, but otherwise clear the head, sort the problems out and get ready for the Byron Nelson in May.

He did say he’d be playing a full US schedule to the Scottish, no reason to change that and panic too much but if the form continues, he’ll have to have some big discussions moving forward after the Open about what tour he finishes the season on.

  3. The decision not to take the winners at the national champs was controversial on the men’s side - but just about understandable given Team Mouat are the current world champs and Olympic silver medallists.

However, there was absolutely no reason at all not to select Team Henderson for the Worlds given that Team Morrison have little real pedigree or history of results at world level. We’re seeing that loud and clear this week.

  4. Scheffler gained some brownie points for me for not giving in to all of the conciliatory noises about the LIV players and basically said the only reason for division in golf was because they’d fucked off and chased the money.

  5. Would broadly agree with keeping the continuity of team selection and try and ride the wave of last weekend. Only question for me will be Howie or Sula at the back, would be tempted to bring Howie back as I think he’s a more solid performer but not gonna criticise keeping things the same.

  6. Another thing that’s interesting is how well the DPWT players who got their PGAT cards have actually done this season.

Pavon winning Pebble and placing in other tournaments, Hojgaard having good results as well, Valimaki in a share of the lead at the moment and Bob, Campillo and Olesen in decent positions and well above the cut line.

Almost as if the gap in standard in the States beyond the big names isn’t as big as we’re all led to believe…

  7. His short putting and inconsistency will kill him on the PGAT. If he misses the cut this week and next, I wonder if he considers a move over to Europe for a couple of weeks and see if that brings a change in fortunes.

Not too bad so far but we’re letting Dumbarton back into it far too easily. Kinnear has saved a shot so he’s better than Leighfield already. Shame Kabia went off as I felt he was looking pretty dangerous. Naturally, Elgin, Stranraer, East Fife and Forfar are all winning too.

This is the exact issue, we’ll probably need not far off 40 points to stay up with the competitiveness of this division and that simply isn’t going to happen. It would be great to hold out for a win and get the habit back at least.

  9. Our critical problem is that we have, for almost two full seasons now, simply forgotten how to win games of football. Countless dropped leads, late gasp goals against us and poor performances at times when we are needed most to step up (see Elgin and Stranraer for the most recent examples).

We’ve been pretty decent at home under McCall performance wise and haven’t looked too out of our depth but this feels like another game where we might be moaning about a draw where we could’ve won ahead of the Forfar match.

If McCall dares to start Parry again he should be sacked on the spot. McCall I mean. Although I wouldn't be against sacking Parry an' all.

The way this season's going, he'll probably opt for Leighfield.

Get Ebbo in the sticks, charging out at helpless Dumbarton attackers like Harald Schumacher
