First of all, apologies for the slightly long-winded and probably self-indulgent post, but I feel like a Sunday morning vent so here we are
I remember first asking the chairman during a meeting last year - can’t remember which one - that the club was in a state of decline and it was greeted with a mild sense of surprise and incredulity that anyone would ever think that. Yet, here we are and two games in, the rot is well and truly set in for another long and brutal season. Once again, there is nothing tangible to excite the fanbase beyond a Crownpoint application which we look underdogs at this stage to secure and a suddenly announced investment which we’re only getting the benefit of at the time when the vast majority of the quality players are already signed up.
I don’t sneer at a single club in this division because they all have at least one of three critical things you need for a successful operation - on-field success, competent stewardship and community connection. I envy them for having these things.
There is no divine right to success but the whole attitude around the club is a complacency that because we were half decent almost two decades ago, then we’ll be fine.
I miss most of the games these days but my job means I watch another club on a Saturday on a regular basis and the comparison between the way they operate on and off the field just makes me even more frustrated at how things are going with Clyde.
The game on Wednesday is one of the few I could make because the two teams don’t clash for once, but there will be no chance at all, it’s just a waste of time at the moment. It’s not about the fact we’re losing so much - I’m used to that with Clyde over the years - but I don’t even see a reason to invest the mental space at the moment. I don’t even check what the score is until I come back from the games right now.
We talk about growing the fanbase but I’m a fan just approaching 30 and have no intention to engage with the club - beyond my monthly contribution - until there is a sign of life. At the moment we’re just flatlining towards an existential crisis and I can’t bear to watch it.

That’s… not ideal

At least we won’t lose money on distributing too many for fans to buy…

I think they’re hinting at the red kit in the left picture being close to the one being worn. They spoke about that season in the initial release so hopefully they’re close to that template as that’s nice

Sula at RB over McCulloch is the right call, but maybe an indication of what they think of the young guy atm. Parry in goal is a confusing one.
Also Mulvanny wearing 4 as a forward makes me irrationally angry

My Cumbernauld upbringing means the stand at Netherdale feels like an architectural wonder of the world

So there we have it everyone, now in formal black and white and not just stated at a meeting - the explicit aim this season is promotion back to L1 at the first time of asking.
I hope to be wrong of course, but if we are where many project us to be by, say November or even Christmas, then action will need to be taken surely because we would’ve failed the goal?
I don’t believe an exaggeration to say the next few months through the autumn and winter are existential for the future of the club. It’s either an improved performance than projected, safety in L2 (or better) and securing a future home or the alternative, which will have us all digging out the directions for Caley Braves and Gala Fairydean.
We’re all about to find out which it is…

So that’s where the ‘substantial budget’ went! Gotta pay top dollar for that Rossvale talent.

The amount of people who don’t know you can be booked for an offence after a foul - including the Chelsea women’s manager - is wild to me

As grim as it is, I think we have to accept that the only ‘impressive’ signings we’re making now will be if we can get some good loan players in. Given our apparent budget issues and our lowly status, I’m not at all confident of getting anywhere close to the cream of any crop there either.

We needed somebody for the bench tonight clearly

Not at the match but allowing almost 30 shots on your goal is never a good recipe for success.

Five injured tomorrow, so that’s a squad of 11 or 12 tomorrow I think? Fantastic stuff.
Also, players getting injured during pre-season is such a Clyde touch.

One of the best bits about the dumpings last night was the teenager absolutely RAGING she’s still in there. She’s got her followers and free water bottle and is ready to f**k off but now has to stay in for days with no one showing a flicker

Connor Scullion ticks the ‘played for Jim Duffy’ box for today I think. I’m sure I remember him at Dumbarton during that time?

Can’t wait for our formation this year featuring four right backs

Happy Billy Mortimer Day for all those who celebrate it!

De Vries punted, Ricciardo in for AT. Probably a sigh of relief from Perez at that development.

It’s quite entertaining for about 10 minutes and then you kind of lose the feel for how impressive for these guys to hit homers when they’re launching hundreds in an hour.

I still think Donald will try and pull an angle to pick one or more of the LIV guys if he can. Pieters would be an obvious target given he was right in the reckoning before he jumped ship but I wouldn’t totally rule out Garcia with all of the RC history with him and Rahm basically saying he wanted to play alongside him.
Not something I’d be doing, but I don’t think Europe are quite ready to drop those guys.

Do the SPFL not have to approve things like kit colours? I would imagine they would raise an objection to effectively two red kits as that’s a nightmare

I’m sure the Wimbledon organisers are loving it as Russians and Belarusians start pouring their way into the later stages in the men’s and women singles events

Clyde Season 23/24

I believe your squad this season will allow you to qualify for the on-field part of things, whether you associate winning L2 as hitting that threshold. It’s a hell of a lot more exciting on that front than we have to look forward to!
You also have a community to represent and harness positively at the moment, although I’m not in a position to say either way how effective that process has been with Dumbarton. We currently have a nomadic existence in Hamilton, hopefully Crownpoint can help move us forward on this
