  1. Tom Ritchie. He worked for the club during McGlynns first stint too I’m sure.
  2. Can you imagine having a Dennis/ Sinky/ Hetherston/ Brewster/ Dalziel backbone to the team now? If only we realised how lucky we were at the time to be witnessing that Rovers team.
  3. Just to add something positive to this thread and remind us all that it’s not always been shite being a Rovers fan. My uncle was a sports photographer for the courier back in the day and used to print me off photos he’d taken from the Rovers games. I found these ones the other day in my mums attic. They were taken after the game in which we clinched the 1st division title in April ‘93. I spotted a few familiar faces in the crowd.
  4. I wonder if the new pitch makes that less of an issue? We were always told that heavy machinery would either have to be on the pitch or on the railway for any redevelopment, both of which were obvious no-no’s. Can the new pitch take machinery on it without being totally destroyed like a grass pitch would? If so that might remove that hurdle and just leave the fact that it’s an unnecessary use of a substantial amount of cash!
  5. The ‘hybrid’ model as we had in McGlynns previous tenure does seem in theory to be the perfect fit for our level but there must be a reason nobody else operates that way. It must be a nightmare for training for a start- when do you train? How do you practice shapes or set-pieces when you’re missing key players? McGlynn made it work before but it can’t be easy.
  6. Not sure how believing that the opposition would gain an advantage from knowing our team in advance is a ludicrous suggestion. Would also love to hear the facts which show that the opposition knowing our team is actually an advantage to us (the opposite of giving the opposition an advantage surely?) McGlynn in his pre-match interview when talking about the Hibs team mentions that he doesn't know if certain players would be playing, or if they are playing then whether they'll play in defence or mid-filed. Surely if he knew this then he'd be able to better prepare his own team? Maybe the opposition never see these posts, maybe even if they do, they gain no advantage from them. But even if you don't think the opposition will gain anything from you leaking the team, surely it's better to keep it to yourself just on the off-chance that it does? Or is appearing 'in-the-know' far too much of an ego-boost for you to stay quiet?
  7. Most folk calling for Davo to be dropped for McKay, but the best defensive partnership we had last season was Davo and McKay together while Bene was injured. It all went to shit when Bene came back from injury and Smith dropped McKay for him. Not saying the answer is necessarily to drop the club captain as it certainly won’t happen , but maybe try a back 3 away from home, Crane and Dingwall in wing-back roles and then we get the three/five in the middle to match up to what every other team plays when we visit. That suggestion is probably why I’m not a manager but as most have said, league is gone, now is the time to experiment and find our best line-up for the play-offs.
  8. Building a balanced squad was never Smiths strong point, just ask John McGlynn.
  9. Was that game as far back as ‘98!? Bloody hell. I seem to remember that they had only opened the bottom tier initially until it was apparent that most of Kirkcaldy was coming over and they eventually opened the top tier. I remember sprinting up the stairs to get prime seats. Can’t remember f*ck all else about the game right enough. Easter road has been quite a happy hunting ground for us over the years though.
  10. Getting folk on loan for 6 months in return for our star players can get tae f**k, been there, suffered the consequences.
  11. Yep, the social media output from the club has improved beyond recognition in the last couple of months.
  12. Hearts hybrid pitch is apparently 2% synthetic and cost in the region of £1million, so not a massive amount more expensive than ours but I think the upkeep is more as you need to UV lights etc to ensure the grass continues to grow in the winter. As has been said, our surface is definitely better than a poor grass surface which is what we’ve had for large chunks of the season over the past few years.
  13. I’m not sure what your point is, but you are correct, I rarely have anything constructive to say [emoji23]
  14. Saw him at Cairnie Fruit farm with his family a few weeks back- I thought the short back and sides with beard was a vast improvement on the 6-all-over he sported for the majority of his time with us! The fact we’re speaking about his fashion sense confirms the fact he’s a beige manager. I’m sure he’ll do ok with Brechin.
  15. Afraid not, I heard that Silva played in goal and Hendry was also playing but no more details.
  16. Apparently we beat Falkirk 1-0 on Thursday in a bounce game.
  17. My mate who has Hearts connections reckons Silva is not the tallest Goalie but he’s a decent keeper and his distribution is excellent.
  18. Is that McGlynn in the front row of the picture of Hendry?
  19. It’ll no be needing scrapped once John is finished with it. Appointment booked at WeBuyAnyMinibus for 9am tomorrow.
  20. He’s sorting the rusty wheel arches on the minibus I heard.
  21. McGlynn was the man that brought professionalism back to Raith after the Anelka and Dalziel farces. We were a laughing stock when he took over and a solid, hardworking, well respected team and club when he left. Same again then please John....
  22. Uninspiring would maybe have been a better way to put it. The name that jumps out at me is Lee Clark and all I can think of is Gary F Locke. He’s failed everywhere he’s gone. Absolute no from me. I think Cuthburt would be a massive mistake too. Seems like a good guy, might be a good coach, may make a good manager some day but he’s only worked under Barry ‘no imagination’ Smith. I was hoping to see a Lennon or someone like that who was experienced and ambitious but I guess he hasn’t applied.... From that list I wouldn’t be too disappointed with Duffy as a safe pair of hands or Robson as a gamble. But then again I was ecstatic when Hughes took over....
  23. Unless he's been spoken to as part of the management team with Lennon and we're looking at the possibility of bringing in Lennon and Moore...... I'd be happy with that. Seems unlikely right enough but you never know.
