  1. There's nothing on the official site yet. I would have thought the players would have found out this week whether or not they'd been offered terms, but alas.
  2. I liked him too. A lot of people seemed to think he didn't work hard enough but I always thought he put a decent shift in. Set up a fair few number of goals too. I would hope he'd stick around. Those were the days! Berwick Rangers might have won the battle (signing Jim Lister) but Stenhousemuir won the war (winning promotion and becoming a reasonable mid-card third-tier side).
  3. God, so he did. That was ages ago as well! Remember when Reidford was our goalie?! Dearie me. Probably the bravest 'keeper I've ever seen at Stenny but, alas, he was pretty shite for the best part.
  4. Sorry to see Dean leave - by all accounts, he was a smashing guy and a good personality to have around the place. Although he played well in his only first-team appearance (the 3-1 win over Brechin City on the final day of the 2013-14 season) he spent all of last year injured and I don't think he'll be a massive loss. I wish him well.
  5. Isn't it generally considered to be somewhere around season nine with the episode "The Principal and the Pauper"? The quality between the season eight and nine is markedly different - Homer becomes a little crueler, a little more idiotic, celebrities pop up with greater frequency, Lisa appears to be on a crusade every week - and the whole thing rapidly declines from then on. The final episode of season eight, "The Secret War of Lisa Simpson", was broadcast in May 1997 - it's coming up for 20 years since the last genuinely wonderful episode of The Simpsons was made. It's still the greatest TV show ever made and seasons three, four, five, six, seven and eight are incredible, but everything after is just a giant drag.
  6. CEMSFC has claimed Patty's leaving the club but I prefer to wait for confirmation from official channels myself. For what it's worth, I'd keep him. Played well throughout the middle third of last season and was head and shoulders above yung Liam Henderson, the useless loanee from Heart of Midlothian he replaced. He got suspended and lost his place in the starting XI to Ciaran Summers and didn't really play over the last few months, but I don't see any reason to let him go.
  7. Hmm, I'll wait and see an official list from the club before making any conclusions - CEMSFC is notorious with playing hard and fast with the truth!
  8. He was a real up-'n'-at-'em midfielder, someone who would sit in front of the defence, break up play and move the ball on to the more technical players. He was pretty disciplined, hard working and someone who you could usually rely on to keep things ticking over. You really saw how important he was to Stranraer during their make-or-break tie with Greenock Morton towards the end of the season - he went off midway through the first half with an injury and the team really lost their shape in his absence. He's pretty much the opposite of the player you describe!
  9. Grant Gallagher was one of the best midfielders in League 1 last season, I'd happily take him at the Warriors. Sorry to see it hasn't really worked out for him at the Rock and he's perpetually bodied by supporters on here.
  10. Any of these brers worth taking a punt on at the fag end of League 1?
  11. Some fantasy booking here: from realistic, available targets, who would you like to see join the club next season? I've had a think off the top of my head about our three problem positions. Goalkeeper has been a big problem for us all season and it's important it's dealt with as quickly as possible. There's talk of Colin McCabe returning for a second season on loan, something I wouldn't be averse to seeing. He's a big lump of a boy and another year in the seaside leagues might do him the world of good. Elsewhere, Neil Parry might be a useful signing but I'd like to see us go for Wullie Muir at Queen's Park. He's a great shot stopper, extraordinarily so, and he can command his area pretty well for his size. At centre-back, big Frank McKeown might be a shout. He's just been released by Greenock Morton and although a move to Dumbarton or back to Stranraer is probably on the cards but maybe we could tempt him to Ochilview. He was consistently one of the best defenders at this level and if he can regain his form and fitness, he'd be dynamite. Elsewhere, maybe Alan Lithgow could be tempted back to the club? Sean Crighton might be worth a punt too, always thought he was pretty okay. Up front, I'd like to see the club make a more for Jamie Longworth. I've always liked him and I can't understand why he's been frozen out at Stranraer. I think he'd be an excellent foil for someone like Colin McMenamin. Jim Lister would be worth a punt too - he lives locally (I saw him in Asda the other week), he's a big lump of a boy and he's offer us something different.
  12. Again, it's another cautionary tale - love in the digital age is not easy.
  13. Does Andrew Galloway post on Pie and Bovril? I've seen some of his tweets and he must be the biggest mark going. The stuff on his TL is the most wholesome, sincere, unabashed content I've ever seen.
  14. From another conversation with a board member on Saturday night, we're probably going to be going with the same budget again for next season.
  15. Very sorry to see the big man getting rinsed like that. An embarrassing way to kick off his experiences in online dating.
  16. I spoke to him at the Player of the Year night and he says he's not sure when he'll be back playing. I can't remember exactly what his injury was but I think he spoke about "inflammation" and all that. A damn shame as he really looked the part. I hope he sticks around.
  17. How did big Buisty perform this season? It was great to see him back playing but I was always a bit worried about how he'd handle it all.
  18. I didn't like the way it was rushed through towards the end but I thought it was a worthwhile storyline and one that should act as a warning to boys courting young women. HairyBawz is quite right in what he says. You have Jay, probably the best and most complex young character in the show, made a pariah because of a mistake he made. It was important something like EastEnders dealt with it.
  19. Definitely, the standard of defending has unarguably been the biggest issue for us this season and, dare I say it, the worst in the 11 years I've been watching the Warriors. I can't remember a Stenny side so eager to give the opposition the advantage - even Scott Booth's side defended with more poise than this team! (Regarding the 11 men back in the box to defend set-pieces - John Coughlin used to do this and it seemed to do the trick. Not sure why it isn't working this time around.) The management have known for a while that we've had major problems at the back and I would imagine plans have already been in place to bring in a goalkeeper and a couple of centre-backs. There was some talk last night that Colin McCabe might be sticking around for another season. I'm not sure what to make of him - I don't think he commands his area as well as he should, but he's only 18, he's built like the gable end of a house and he's capable of pulling off some great saves, so he might be worth taking a punt on for next season. It might be worth looking at who Airdrieonians release - I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Alan Lithgow returning (I thought he did us a good turn last season). They're certainly hard to come across, that's for sure. I think we'll be relying on the management team to get their pals in again.
  20. Alright troops, I've updated the title of this thread and I reckon we should use it for the season going forward. This could be our "Walking Along Dunfermline" thread, but with the same three or four jobbers updating it from time to time. Last night was our Player of the Year awards ceremony and it was an excellent event. It was no surprise to see Ross Meechan clean house and the defender collected every award going, other than Young Player of the Year (Liam McCroary) and the Fair Play Award (Carlos Mazana-Martinez). From speaking to a couple of players at the event, everyone seemed pretty embarrassed by yesterday's match against Albion Rovers and there was a sense of relief more than anything else. Although 40 points was the target and the beginning of the season, the way the team reached their goal was a little concerning and vexatious in parts (it seems so long ago now, but we were also knocked out of the Scottish Cup by East Kilbride...) Everyone seemed to be focusing on 2016-17 and improving on this year's points tally. I'm still happy to keep about 90 per cent of this season's team while adding a new goalkeeper, centre-back and striker (these problem areas were also highlighted by the manager, during a brief conversation). But you only have to look at this season's statistics to show that more might need to be done than just turing over personnel. Netting 46 goals is okay I suppose - give or take, it's the same total as everyone else from fourth to 10th - but conceding 80 times is unacceptable; that's more than two goals every match! The team would either win by the odd goal or lose by a thrilling margin. It's easy enough to blame Jamie Barclay or Stuart Malcolm (and the pair were directly responsible for their fair share of goals this season) but it suggests there's something fundamentally wrong with the way the team is set up as a whole. The type of goals we lose on a consistent basis is just outrageous! I really like Bomber and Davie Irons but I don't think another season like this one will be tolerated - sorting out the backline, offering them more protection and cutting out the stupid, consistent mistakes is a priority. As for next season, I only know that Ross Meechan and Kieran Millar are signed up. I imagine we'll find out who'll be moving on over the next week or so. This thread will be updated with every in and out at the glorious Stenhousemuir FC over the summer.
  21. As much as I dislike his character, he probably deserves a 16th title. He's a wonderful company man and his good deeds should not go unrewarded. I'd like to think he's now an elder statesman where he can be used to put over good young talent but I don't think that will be the case. More JERN CENA from now til my death at some point in the next three years.
  22. Sad to see Nancy and Tamwar leaving. Two of the shows most interesting characters over the last couple of years. Fair thee well.
  23. Catching up with this week's Raw and it's another decent show. My favourite thing about it was the two Mitchell brothers (I don't know their names, sorry) reuniting with AJ Styles, and then proceeding to beat up Roman Reigns. I hope they go for a Casino-style angle with AJ as the Ace Rothstein character and the Mitchells as Nicky Santoro - a decent guy trying to make a name for himself whose world is suddenly turned upside down by the sudden appearance of an old friend. I know all the signs are pointing towards some kind of turn soon but I hope they build it like this.
  24. Someone at work told me that Masood will accompany Tamwar and Nancy on their trip to Italy. It would be a damn shame to lose them, especially at the same time - they're three of the best characters of the show and bring a real depth to their performances. Paul will be no great loss. The way he grimaced as he looked over at Ben during the tedious will-they-won't-they angle was wince-inducing.
