  1. There's something about the post-feminist, Sex in the City/Loose Women era that makes it impossible to go anywhere without being disturbed by a bunch of horrible old kunts. As an example, if me and 10 mates were to stroll into this small pub/restaurant near me, get absolutely melted at 5pm and conduct an extremely loud, sweary-laden conversation, which mostly focused on the goriest details of our sex lives, we would be quite correctly labelled as obnoxious louts. Wheras for some reason, the large group of middle class and middle age creatures who seemed to be delivering a press conference about their partners dick sizes, probably see themselves as 'sassy', 'powerful women who know what they want' *snaps fingers* Disclaimer: I hate all people who are ridiculously over-loud in quiet places, not just women. For some reason though what would get young men chucked out, gets old women a complimentary round.
  2. I think you guys are giving this fella too much of a hard time. The Usual Suspects is indeed a classic, but I think lau here is referring to its anti-climactic prequel, starring Stephen Baldwin being accused of a crime and subsequently being released without charges. I agree, 3/10. Up in The Air This was one of these films where you can't quite work out if you're really enjoying it or if you think it's shite. George Clooney plays the lead role in a typical hardened cynic v family man romantic tale. It struck me watching it that the lonely, depressing, big business story seemed much more realistic and authentic than the soft-focus luvvy duvvy alternative. By the time the film had finished I realised this was probably the point, so guess it was well done. 7/10
  3. Dunno bout a Parka but Asos is quite a good website for tidy gear at a reasonable price. Asos
  4. I've been inside Akpo Sodjes missus but what she told me about the big man made me feel horribly inadequate
  5. This is more a PTTGOYN but I'm sick of job ad's like this... Marketing It's quite annoying to have a degree in a subject in which 99% of the vacancies with that title are scamming b*****ds
  6. I meant 10 ya pedantic dick Those arseholes who don't smoke but start wanting a shnee when they're drunk (I am one of these c***s occasionaly) are a lucrative market I reckon. Surely illegal though aye?
  7. Similar to EGB's query, I've always thought selling fags outside clubs would have you retired in the Bahamas within a year. Especially in Edinburgh where nothings open at 3pm. Could easily punt a 20 pack for a fiver I reckon. I assume this is a complete licensing and trading standards no go?
  8. I am finding this video (when watched repetitvely) far, far more amusing than it should be.
  9. How weird, was just coming on to mention that. Didn't watch it on TV, so bit of a coincidence! Cracking documentary, although it was a bit weird how sort of concluded that Escobar (Pablo) was a bit of a decent bloke after covering his terrorist attacks in the first segment. Think it was done to continue the parallel his story to that of Andres, but the effort to match the two stories felt a bit contrived. Amazing story though. On Youtube in 11 parts if anyone without Sky Anytime wants to see it. 8/10 Apocalypse Now Would have been my answer to the 'Citizen Kane question', ie what is the one major classic film you've never seen. Absolutely amazing. Goes without saying that Coppola is the absolute master of visual and aural film-making. In terms of depicting the process of going insane this goes up there with films like Taxi Driver and The Shining. Apart from maybe the Godfather and Once Upon A Time in America, I must admit there isn't many films I can stay gripped to for more than 3 hours but this was one of them. 10/10
  10. Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead Can't really put my finger on why (or 'give it a name' ) but didn't really grip me. Good story, decent cast (dont really like Andy Garcia) but overall a bit 'meh' 6/10 State of Grace Brilliant. Only really noticed in the last few years what a great actor Gary Oldman is. Ed Harris, Sean Penn and John Turturro are also amongst the best around so really enjoyed this. Wont say too much about the story as theres a few twists and turns so don't want to put off anyone who hasn't seen it. 9/10
  11. You know nothing. In Budapest every shop and pub was rammed with the good stuff at about 55p a bag. They love a bag of bacon sizzler and I'm sure my 200 HUF wont go to waste. Either that or I'll take advantage of its resemblance to a £2 coin and just slip it in with some smash for a daysaver.
  12. Nah they only take notes. Shame cos I still have 200 Hungarian forint which is about 60p. Anyone ken any Hungarian shops in Edinburgh that sell Mccoys?
  13. Drunk texting can be dealt with. Its when you find something in your call log that the full on self loathing and paranoia kicks in.
  14. What Doesn't Kill You - 2008 Crime film written by Donnie Whalberg which didn't get any real marketing because the distributor went bankrupt. Tells the story of a couple of Boston Irish gangsters growing up and making various life decisions which all lead to the dilemma of whether to rob an armoured security truck (not a spoiler btw, the lead up to the robbery is in the first scene). A standard premise, but a really captivating film in my opinion. Completely un-Hollywood; Its about half an hour too long, not all the storylines are resolved and it doesn't glorify crime (quite the opposite) but it's a better film for all of that in my opinion. Great cast, realistic feel and really atmospheric but certainly not for everyone. 7.5/10
  15. Practically everytime I go into Maccy D's the staff are in the middle of a massive argument.
  16. I like to think of it as extremely high-brow satire myself.

  17. Anyone can be better than their idol. In this instance Tarantino is patently not, hence the Oasis/Beatles analogy.
  18. Think you're misconstruing it as criticism. Tarantino's films all tend to be stylised, hyper-violent and highly unrealistic. Absolutely nowt wrong with that and as highlighted by my score, I enjoyed TR immensely. The fact that QT is so inflenced by Scorcese makes it difficult to label him the best around. Its a bit like saying Oasis are better than The Beatles. As for the Coens, they're the ultimate Marmite filmmakers. Half of their work is truely genius, the other half total pish IMO.
