One Portuguese newspaper reported that biological fluids found under upholstery in the Renault Scenic car hired by the parents 25 days after Madeleine vanished on May 3 was an 80 per cent match with the girl's DNA.
I am utterly confused as to how the DNA was an 80% match with the girls DNA

An emotional idiot - think Diana-fest with a toddler.
I do think it would be a trifle convenient if Maddie's fund made precisely 0 pounds profit however, given they've been given lots of money and have done feck-all with it.
Time to give it all away now.
As a company, it can pay its "employees" with any money that would make them go into profit.

ahhh so it does strike you as incredible...I seem to remember you have experience in this area...any thoughts?
So are you now saying it was blood...interesting
I never said it wasn't blood, you were teh one that said it wasnt because red blood cells don't have DNA. It could quite easily have been other blood cells present in blood that gave the DNA sample.
What i find strange is that they got a half match in the boot. That makes it sound like it was one of the twins/parents who provided that sample. If the car was only used to get rid of the body, how did they have a sample in the boot and a full sample in the back of the car. Surely you wouldnt put the body in the boot, and then in the back of the car sometime later (or vice versa).
Other samples it could have been is skin cells. If the body is degraded, there could be tissue samples they got. saliva will contain some cells that will give you a DNA sample.
Something else to think about, where could they hide the body for 25 days, without it stinking up the place something horrid?

well if was not blood what other cells could it be assuming it was not hair and easily transferred? Does it not strike you as incredible that any dna was found in the car?
Mmmm, blood contains a lot more types of cell than red blood cells was probably white blood cells they get the DNA from. (what is strange is that they said they got 1/2 a match in the boot and a full match in the back of the car )

i think the onus of ascertaining it's personal relevance is entirely for you to judge.
You were the one that came out with the statement. Is someone saying they used red blood cells to get the DNA? or why did you say it anyway?

there is no dna in red blood cells so it must have been other stuff that matched ... strange.
And that is relevant how?

This could all be a smokescreen set up by the UK and USA governments to take attention away from the situations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Got f**k all to do with the US government. UK maybe, but this is getting very little air time in the US.

Fracture 8/10.
Brilliant performance by Hopkins. Great storyline, although i had worked out the ending before the ending.

Yes it has been that bad a week

No-one's mentioned murder - it's the accidental death she's suspected of...
I think it is the people on here mentioning murder he is getting at.

So if they are involved and it is a terrible accident they have been really luck hiding the body?
I think so yes. I just don't think that they would hold up to any scrutiny if it was all an accident. If they are really psychotic, calculated cold blooded killers, thats a different story. Just the panic of what to do in that situation would mean mistakes would be made and the body found. (in my opinion anyway)

Not a true story.
A mediocre story, yes, but not a true one.
There was also an americanised version of Fever pitch. (same can be said of that)

Done the right way, there would be virtually no chance of the boddy being found it it was in some sort of weighted container.
Again, if it was all a terrible accident they were hiding, do you really think they a) would think about weighing her down and b ) be able to do it properly?

I've seen people on here and on other foums discuss how the body could have been exposed of. i've not read this full thread so someone has probably already mentioned it, but there is a big wet thing called 'the sea' close by which is pretty good for hiding stuff.
Not really. The tides would probably have washed it ashore at some point. Very risky.

With the McCann 'fund' up to over £1m it would be funny watching all the do-gooders squirm if it turned out they had done it themselves
I doubt the do-gooders would squirm. They will (rightly) be incredibly pissed off that they had been "had" by the McCanns, but does that mean they are going to be "squirming"?
It might be an idea if they told their spokespeople to STFU for a few days, given what is going on.Just a thought but surely there are different degrees of DNA that could be found in their car. If they just found traces of DNA then it could have an innocent explanation, if they find oodles of blood then perhaps not. I don't know anything about DNA though, perhaps blootoooner can answer?
It all depends what they found. The DNA will not change as it is identical in every cell of your body, but what they found the DNA in will. If it is a hair, then it could have been transferred from clothing that was put in the back seat. If it is any blood whatsoever, then obviously it was there after the McCanns got the car. If that is the case, i doubt very much it is still the McCanns, as would they have had the privacy to get the body, put it in the boot/hide it and dump it somewhere?
Im with Div however, and can't see this as hiding a mistake/overdose. They would have to be master villains to keep this a secret for so long, something would have slipped by now.
As for the idea that Maddie had a terminal illness, and it was a "mercy killing", that fits perfectly with a CSI episode i watched yesterday, where a woman was going to be murdered (the miniature killer had tipped off CSI), she had parkinsons and her brother killed her in the exact same way to hide it as not being euthanasia. He got caught because of his tears.

But if you don't know it's being held then you could walk into the ground during the silence. That happened to some Ayr fans in Peterhead last season. They were moaned about for not being silent but if you don't know, how can you be?
Before someone from somewhere else does it :-
SO does Peterhead have a 90 minutes silence all game?

Fucking banks.
It costs me $45 to send wire transfers to my own account in the UK. No problem for years doing it. Then suddenly 2 months ago, it struggled to go through, and finally they did something to go through. Last week it wouldnt go through no matter what, so they called and was told to use a different code. They used it, and it got sent back saying it was the sort code that was needed, and not this number. (Duh). However, i got a $45 charge for doing so. Now i have to get in touch with the Bank of Scotland to see if i can get that money back. (My bank has refunded me the initial cost). All in all i spent (without refunds, not sure yet) $100 to not send myself money (the extra $10 because of difference in rates selling and buying).

No, it was illogical. It was a fog filled with the souls of the dead killing people...maybe that happens in Georgia or whatever hick backwater you come from but not in Scotland!
So you are a horror fan, of which 99% of the films are illogical, yet you complained about this one

So I wonder what she was using the oven for then!
I may be wrong, but just because she posted this at 1.30 in the morning (or whatever) doesn't mean she was actually using it at the time.

Murray back in action today in the US Open.
Wonder how he will perform after an indifferent comeback from his wrist injury?
He has a nasty draw however. 1 more match, the 14th seed, then it is Davydenko, Roddick, Federer. 3rd Round will be a great result this time round, anything else is a bonus.

Got better towards the end, boost it up to a 6/10.
So you complained the plot was illogical, yet didnt get to the point that explained it in the film yet?
Right.....

But then they would say it was a 100% match. 80% match means it was 20% different. Theres a contaminant there that makes it very wierd. (75% could mean a parent contaminated, but 80%?)
