  1. The Chasers are all very strong, but Sean, despite being an ex Mastermind champion, has areas of weakness. Paul Sinha is probably the best quizzer of the 4, with Anne in particular not too far behind. Mark is also formidable. FYI, Anne (the Governess) plays for the Scotland quiz team. Quite enjoy The Chase, and Pointless (Osman's other show Two Tribes is good too, if a bit on the easy side), but my favourite is 15-1 (which is returning to Channel 4 next week). Only Connect is great too. Lots of good quiz shows on TV ATM.

    Twin Peaks

Lynch is planning to direct every episode this time round. This should ensure that the chances of it being 'shit' are minimal. No sub-contracting it out to lesser talents (Diane Keaton's episode was, by common consent, the nadir of series 2). Also, the TV climate has changed a lot in 25 years. Shows like Hannibal and American Horror Story are far more explicit/disturbing than anything we saw on TV in the early '90s. This will give Lynch more creative freedom, hopefully to strike a balance between the quirky, kitsch original TV show and the darker, more uncompromising vision of Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me. I have high hopes for this. Hopefully Lynch and Frost will bring back the best of the original cast (Kyle Maclachlan, Ray Wise, Madchen Amick, Grace Zabriskie, Sheryl Lee, Harry Goaz, Sherilyn Fenn etc.) and integrate the best elements of the TV show with the intriguing Philip Jeffries and Agent Chester Desmond sub-plots from the movie. Would be great to see David Bowie, Chris Isaak, Keifer Sutherland and Harry Dean Stanton return from TPFWWM. I suspect they might go for Moira Kelly from the movie as Donna rather than Lara Flynn Boyle from the TV show. Will be interesting to see who the new, presumably younger, cast members are. A couple of names that spring to mind - Lana Del Rey has the requisite Lynchian looks and image, assuming she can act. Chrysta Bell, whose music career Lynch is now guiding, might be another.

    Twin Peaks

Strong rumours of a new (25 years later) series of Twin Peaks. Possibly to be confirmed later today. Fingers crossed...
  4. Guess-tastic 7 today. Knew Samantha Cameron, Bentham, Oloroso, Monopoly and was reasonably confident on artery. Guessed Black Moth and Appetite for Destruction.
  5. 6/10. Knew 4 including the football question. Guessed sheep and East India Company. Missed Ransome, Austen, Master & Commander and Canadian flag.
  6. Fairly lucky 9/10. Wasn't sure about 'Bohemian Like You', but went the right way. Turpentine may have been a faint memory, or a random guess. Have put on a couple of gigs with Aphex Twin in the past, struggled to recall his name nonetheless. Didn't know Pol Pot's real name. Btw, any other P&B quiz enthusiasts going the Glasgow Brain Game in aid of Marie Curie at Kelvingrove Art Gallery tonight? Did it last year too, a very good night.
  7. Really? Can't say I've ever lamented the fact that I was crap at football. Doubt I would have traded so much as a single IQ point, let alone sacrifice verbal dexterity, for the ability to kick a ball more proficiently.
  8. 8/10. Questions suited me today. Was confident on 7, Piers Plowman was a guess. Didn't get Teenage Mutant Ninja turtle or the Christmas carol.
  9. 8/10. Knew 6. Landed guesses on Zitting Cisticola and World Cup '66. Should have got Marengo, but went against my first instinct. Didn't know 46 Belgrave Street.
  10. 8/10. Knew 6. Was helped by a discussion of the Trojan War at a pub quiz last night. Guessed Roe v Wade and Abide With Me. Missed Chevrolet (don't do cars) and scallions.
  11. 8/10. Knew 5 and was reasonably confident about CAT acronym. Guessed Cat Deeley (perhaps a faint memory there) and Famous Five. Didn't get dangerous dog or dog licence questions.
  12. I'm with Overthetop here. The Sun really is an execrable rag. Pity it didn't die with The News of the World.
  13. 7/10, knew 4 and was fairly confident on model's surname. Guessed laughing cow and sweet. Didn't get Neil Young, Kiss or ha-ha questions.
  14. 8/10. Didn't think it was too bad today, a mix of quiz chestnuts (questions that come up time after time in quizzes) and a few obscure ones. Betty Joan Persky, Challenger Deep and the first US state to join the Union are all in the former category. Hypatia, Portland and Lux et Veritas were all fairly gentle I thought. Vague memories of having heard haboob before and planasthai was a bit of a guess. Didn't know Barnenez or Richard Saunders.
