  1. Of course the companies that used to have the rights will be reducing their charges in order to reflect the reduction in service for Scotland. Aye, so they will. We already have Sky, BT and "terrestrial". Mrs Salt n Vinegar has Amazon Prime, but that was more for on line shopping (she tells me!) We didn't get Premier and I'll not be taking on any more subscriptions. If it's a couple of quid for a game, I'll think about it, but we pay a fortune each month as it is. Fans being exploited again. Just about every household in the country is looking at cutting expenditure, a situation that's hardly likely to be short term, and I have a feeling (and a hope) that these big media companies take a hit too. And yes, I can confirm that I'm a bit of a grumpy b@st@rd this morning.
  2. Maybe one reason for the lack of response is that they think the government will be able to make better decisions if they base them on less accurate, and less up to date, information. Not a view I happen to share. I'd ask again why folk seem reluctant to complete the census, but given some of the absolute roasters on the forum, I'll just file them under "best avoided by sane people". After all, if they think their circumstances don't matter, who am I to disagree?
  3. Perhaps not my best work, but the sentiment was pretty accurate! If you really need me to explain it, hold your breath and I'll get back to you tomorrow night, there's a good lad...
  4. It was upon being in receipt of more drivel from Oaksoft that Salt n Vinegar decided that he had no desire to drown in pish. Away and lie in your own. Like everyone I know, I'm breathing. I'm not recommending that you your pea-brained analysis to that, and decide to be all contrary just for the sake of it, but some might think it would be a good idea.
  5. What were the folk who were shot doing at the time? Buying a croissant? Selfie at the Eiffel Tower?
  6. Does being a Devil Worshipper count as being religious? Asking for a fiend. (Geddit?) I'll get my coat.
  7. I'd be delighted if you were wrong, but at the start of the campaign if I'd been offered a semi-final slot I'd have taken it. For those of a gambling disposition, Bet365 odds on qualifying for the final are Leipzig 1/6, Rangers 4/1. To have a decent shout for the second leg I think we need, at worst, a draw this week.
  8. Not an altogether surprising response, but I suppose sticking to the point - about filling in a census - isn't easy. Given the pressure on public finances, I have a feeling that if they weren't useful, they wouldn't be done. As I understand it, they are carried out in virtually every "Western" country, and some hold them more often. (Cue outbreak of western conspiracy pish posts.) "sticking it to the man" thread for your pish.
  9. I'm not sure how determined they might be in enforcing it, but a fine of up to £1000 is possible.
  10. I think any fair-minded look at what I said would not support your opinion of it. Basic things like population numbers by area and associated data is a fair thing to collect. Suspicious opposition to the census seems a bit weird to me, especially since one has been carried out roughly every 10 years since 1801. Some folk would start a fight in an empty house.
  11. Don't really mind where they're sent as long as they don't want to use public services, given that one of the purposes of the census is to help plan them. One theory I heard was that some folk might be reluctant to fill in the form because they are claiming single person discount on their Council Tax and don't want to get caught out. As I understand it, to use the data for that purpose would be against the law. Anyway, I'm sure that none of our fine, upstanding P&B-ers would be claiming things they shouldn't.
  12. Don't be so defeatist. Some of them are multiple choice, so you could just guess. Statistically you might get some right.
  13. If you didn't know about the deadline, you'll be thrilled to hear about the fine of up to £1,000 for non compliance...
  14. I read on the Beeb that about 700,000 households have not completed their census forms, about 25% of the total. The deadline is 1 May. Any P&B-ers not done it yet? Is there some sort of "anti-state" boycott going on, is it lethargy, or will it be a last minute thing? (Or were folk so off their tits that they have no idea who was in their gaff at midnight on 20 March? )
  15. I must get more up to date pals. I found a reference. It happened years ago...
  16. If I read Bet365 correctly, Rangers winning the League, Scottish Cup and The Europa League is available at 80/1. Might shorten a bit if County do the biz tomorrow...
  17. It might have escaped your notice but some of our idiot tendency can't calm down about battles much older than WW2...
  18. It disappointing when other teams and match officials don't read the script before games. Can't complain about the red.
  19. Just spoke to a pal on the phone who said something about him having heard about Boris trying to explain to Sikhs why removing Indian duties on whisky was a good thing. Someone wasn't convinced. The story is now at least third hand. Anyone got a link? No doubt his next demonstration of diplomacy will be to try to sell British pork sausages to Muslims.
  20. I should have remembered something before stating an opinion... who's the ref?
  21. I'm not entirely sure why 'Well fans are so downbeat. For us, the league is long gone and any players in the European squad will have both eyes firmly on Thursday's game. Our two top strikers are out, and none of our more creative players will want to be stookied by 2.00pm. I think we'll do well to get a draw.
  22. I suspect that if word got round a building that JRM was doing a tour, the staff would leg it. He'd be about as welcome as a squad of Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on your door at the beginning of a televised world cup qualifier AND you'd just loaned your garden hose to a pal miles away.
