  1. Have a word with the King and see if he can tell you how to manage to voluntarily pay income tax. Seems only fair that we are all "in it" together.
  2. HOLD THE FRONT PAGE! DHL has invented time travel! This morning I received an email which includes the following... "Your parcel is due to be delivered on Thursday 04th April 2024" I'll maybe send them a list of things their time machine might sort out after they've delivered my fekkin order. Or maybe before they deliver my parcel, who knows?
  3. It's the only way to be sure. Why, just this afternoon I've decided that I'm not allowing elephants into my kitchen. It's working perfectly - not one has been seen here. If I hadn't made that decision, well, who knows... That's the kind of determined leadership this country needs. I'm considering banning unicorns as well, as I reckon the horn will cause unacceptable damage to our walls (MATRON!) but I'm still considering the pros and cons. What non-existent things do other P&Bers think should be dealt with by our government. Maybe poltergeists?
  4. I feel your pain. My stuff was due to be delivered on or by 4 April. This morning I've been told it's coming on Monday...
  5. I was only half listening but I think I heard about a Tory slagging off some of his fellow members because they were too supportive of Israel's occupation of Palestinian land, and effectively saying that they were supporting the interests of a foreign country over the interests of the country who'se Parliamentary system they were members of. So, naturally, the Tories have launched an immediate investigation ... no, not into the inappropriate support being given for years by Tories of the allegedly illegal occupation of Palestinian land... don't be silly... into the bloke who grassed on his chums. Found it - from Politico "The Conservative Party is investigating a former minister who accused his Tory colleagues of “doing the bidding of Netanyahu” and demanded the firing of Britain’s security minister. Alan Duncan, an ex-foreign office minister, on Wednesday took aim at British politicians who support Israeli settlement-building in the West Bank, and blasted the Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) parliamentary group. He argued that the group, which includes several MPs, Lords and ministers and aims to promote ties to Israel, has too much influence on the government and does the “bidding” of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."
  6. We used to be members of Costco years ago (15 years?) and they had strict limits on purchases of paracetamol then. I think you could only buy large amounts if your card showed you were a retailer allowed to sell it.
  7. You might think that. You might very well think that, but I couldn't possibly comment...
  8. Getting a text about an online order, with a link to the delivery company tracking site which when you go to it, it gives you contradictory information. The message from the company I've ordered it from claims " "your item is with our delivery partner, you can track on their site using the link below". You do that. So far, so far... The tracking site says that just after 9.00 pm yesterday "your parcel has been collected"... but on the same page it says "we're sorry but we do not appear to have received your consignment from the sender". You can't get the staff nowadays!
  9. I agree with much of what you say, however I can imagine the "tears and snotters" that would erupt (that would not be a pretty sight, I grant you!) if a Scottish political party was to even consider having in its manifesto a commitment to abolish having different schools for different sects of the same religion.
  10. If I was being cynical I'd suggest that politicians fear the votes of "the religious" therefore are wary of upsetting them. We're not quite as bad as parts of the USA...yet.
  11. We were at a funeral in a sheltered housing complex at the start of everyone being told to be really careful about personal contact just before the first COVID lockdown. The priest seemed so confident in the purity of religious activity that during the service he encouraged everyone to shake hands and embrace those near them as a demonstration of God's love. In a care home. Full of elderly and vulnerable people. We were borderline about attending at all, but to Hell with that nonsense. Mrs Salt and Vinegar and I (not being of the faith) were a couple of the very few who did not comply.
  12. Nah, she's made a hash of it. She used an example where there was no, even arguable, attempt to "stir up hatred against a group of persons". She hasn't quoted the Act that she's talking about nor referred to the protections for freedom of speech.
  13. I really think the quality of the debate on this subject in the media generally would be greatly improved if all those opposed to the legislation read, re-read and understood the quote from the Act set out by @welshbairn on page 1 of this thread, particularly the two sections in bold print. James O'Brien on LBC had a pop at the subject earlier today and I'm not convinced that he "got it". I think Shelagh Fogarty will be discussing it shortly. Hopefully she'll do a bit better. A former boss of mine used to have a screensaver that said "when all else fails, read the instructions." Some sound advice there.
  14. I'm not particularly interested in the whole flag thing TBH, but if I was remotely interested in maintaining the "Union" I'd be more vexed at the continued disrespect shown to Northern Ireland as, apparently "Team GB & Northern Ireland" isn't catchy enough. "Team GB" is a ridiculous term for the "country" it's meant to represent.
  15. As this subject now has it's own thread, I'll lift a question that I asked on the BBC Bias thread and ask it again here... It referred to the morning phone-in "The question that should have been asked of those opposed to the Act was 'what view, (or subject matter or approach to it) is it that you think you could have said yesterday without breaking the law that you think you can't say today?' I've still not seen a convincing answer, possibly because the intention has to be to stir up hatred, not just to state an opinion, or tell a joke. (Not looking for P&Bers to incriminate themselves in replies to this, btw.)
  16. When putting up shelves on a garage wall, discovering that one breezeblock (seems to be one word? Looks odd) can be drilled into quite easily, while the one below it seems to be made of some kind of impenetrable extraterrestrial miracle material that is immune to such attention.
  17. I see that Erdogan's party took a sore one in local elections in Turkey. According to the Independent ... "Turkey’s main opposition party has secured a sweeping victory in local elections, dealing a serious setback to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s two-decade grip on power and signalling a change in the country’s political landscape. The opposition candidate, Ekrem Imamoğlu, clinched a second term as Istanbul’s mayor despite Erdogan’s concerted effort to unseat him and, in the process, cemented his position as the president’s main challenger. “My dear Istanbulites, you opened the door to a new future today,” Mr Imamoğlu said addressing the overjoyed supporters of his Republican People’s Party (CHP). Starting from tomorrow, Turkey will be a different Turkey. You opened the door to the rise of democracy, equality and freedom …You ignited hope at the ballot box.” Anyone got a view on whether this is just a blip or might Erdogan's coat be on a shoogly? Article at. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/turkey-elections-erdogan-ekrem-imamoglu-b2521434.html
  18. Given the new hate crime legislation introduced today, if he visited Scotland and said the same thing would he be picked up by the fuzz?
  19. Must confess to some admiration for Fox's psychic abilities. Mrs Salt and Vinegar and my good self passed their set-up at the weekend and it was remarkable to hear him say things like "the people of Scotland want...." or "the Scottish people don't want....". To the very best of my recollection he's never asked either of us for our opinion on anything at all, never mind on the Israel/Palestine issue.
  20. I listened to the phone-in and was a bit disappointed. The question that should have been asked of those opposed to the Act was 'what view, (or subject matter or approach to it) is it that you think you could have said yesterday without breaking the law that you think you can't say today?" (Not looking for P&Bers to incriminate themselves in replies to this, btw.)
  21. The phone-in from 9.00 is about it. Will folk manage to call in without breaking the law?
  22. Took bad advice from his accountant too. Apparently he was hammered wi' tax.
  23. I'm in a right mood today. Getting really peed of with folk posting Easter messages on Facebook when I know fine that they're only doing it to gather likes from folk who obviously don't know them well at all. There's one lassie who has done the whole cross, rising from the dead and Bible quotes bit, when I know fine that if she was to set foot in a church, either she or the church would burst into flames!
  24. I'm not a fan of Labour or Starmer, but if I might be so bold, it's equally true to say "vote Tory and get folk like Jonathan Gullis".
  25. Folk who think that buying a ticket on a bus or train entitles them to a seat for their bag or even a hat, even when the bus/train is mobbed and people are standing. Extra points to the cretinous folk in the example above who give out a "tut" noise when asked to move their fekkin bag or hat. Folk who sit at the window side of a train double seat and cover the neighbouring fold down table with their sh1r3 but don't move it when someone sits next to them. That's all for now but the day is yet young.
