You take away Declan’s season at us and his stats don’t look very good. Gavin Reilly has the potential to come and replicate what McManus achieved with us.

They are completely different players. Reilly will sit in between the posts and wait on something falling his way whereas Mcmanus went and made things happen on his own.

Listen if we do sign him then hopefully he'll prove me wrong but I've never been impressed with him when he's played against us. The year St Mirren went up Lewis Morgan and Cammy Smith were the two main threats that you worried coming up against.

Reilly has 39 goals in 138 games in the Championship  yet the saviour of the summer Declan McManus has 28 in 160 games in the Championship.

    *using transfermarkt stats

81 league games for Reilly the last 3 seasons 8 goals and 0 assists.

87 league games for Mcmanus the last 3 seasons 29 goals 9 assists.

Mcmanus gives you so much more than just a goal threat and last season alone scored more and assisted more than Reilly has in the last 81 league games he's played.

You are forgetting that Alan Stubbs is a fucking diddy

ETA: He only didn't get a new contract because St Mirren had just been promoted to the Premiership.

His 11 goals in 27 starts and 8 sub appearances that season looks like a pretty similar record to McManus at that level and we all know how good he was in League 1

You are forgetting we've all watched Reilly play against our team numerous times with numerous different clubs and I can't remember once thinking 'this boys a player we'll need to watch out for him' Back in his QOS days he had a bit of pace  but there's no chance he'll have any of that now. He doesn't create goals like Mcmanus could and scoring 11 league goals in a title winning side is hardly something to brag about. Nathan Austin scored 10 the season after for a 3rd place Inverness as a comparison.

8 league goals in the last 3 years and jumped from club to club never really holding down a starting spot. It's a no from me. If you're giving me the option of Ruth or Reilly I'm picking Ruth as we already know what Reilly is like where as Ruth is an unknown. But preferably it wouldn't be either of them.

Funnily enough I thought the same any time we came up against Gomis and Falkirk with the likes of Chris McStay and a fit Mark Lamont in our midfield.

We don't really seem to know our midfield balance yet which has hindered Gomis slightly from what I've seen of him so far (missed Saturday and by all accounts he was better tbf). We've tried him as a sitter, a box to box and the furthest forward CM already IIRC.

He's definitely a sitter and actually has a good amount of energy and pace for a man of his age. Until the 50/60th minute when he's used up all his reserves and dives into late tackles giving away sloppy freekicks. Our issue with him last season was he was the only one in the midfield with a bit of legs so he had to do extra and then come the second half he was buggered.

Is it not just the simple fact that dowds doesn't fit the type of striker sheerin wants in his side.  Front players need to be able to play across the park and need to be far more mobile and quick than dowds.

That would be a fine point if Wilson was mobile or quick, he is neither.

  6. 4 minutes ago, Marshmallo said:

Dowds is our second best striker by a mile IMO but Sheerin doesn't seem to agree with me. If this means we can get someone else in to compete with or support Keena then it's for the best though. I understand that Michael "Babe" Ruth has played wide in previous loan spells so perhaps he would be a better fit in the current formation.

I think the only reason he doesn't agree with you is due to the fact he made the decision to sign Wilson. So can't exactly try punt Wilson out right now so Dowds has to take the hit. Dowds hasn't been great with us but he's not half as bad as some on here make out and he's a mile better than Wilson in all aspects of the game.

I wouldn't be so sure Ruth will be the one to come in, unless Aberdeen bring in another striker he won't be going anywhere. His goalscoring record is also abysmal, not saying he wouldn't get goals in league 1 but the last thing we need is another striker that can't hit the net, we already have one in Wilson, and Ompreon may or may not come good.

He's a 19 year old who's only played around 20 first team games bit harsh to call his striking rate abysmal. Especially give most of those 20 games he wouldn't have been playing upfront and he wouldn't have started all 20 either.

U16s get beat 2-1. Apparently they were unlucky and lots of positives to be taken.

Couple of good prospects in that team. Our centre back gifted them the first goal and looked really shakey to start off with but then grew into the game. Young winger Honeyman was the brightest spark for us and scored our goal.

I think Seb Ross, Weekes and Krasniqi are as much cover as we're going to see for the midfield.  Krasniqi to step in for Hetherington, Weekes to cover the wings and Ross to cover Telfer/Nesbitt.

I don't think Sheerin is the type to automatically recall Hetherington if Krasniqi steps in and stands out.  captain or not.

Ross can only really play as the ten as his strengths are stretching the game and making runs in behind the opposition. He can't really play in the Telfer role which is why in the Cove game Nesbitt was the one that dropped deep to take the ball all game. Krasniqi will keep the ball ticking over nicely and spread the play but we definitely need another option in there as if Telfer was to get injured a midfield two of Hetherington and Krasniqi wouldn't work as neither of them will carry the ball forwards.

  10. Having seen Ompreon's chance back on the highlights it's definitely harsh to criticise him on that header as it's behind him. Miller's agility plain for all to see on the Airdrie goal, turns like an artic lorry. I hope Williamson and Dixon are back for the Queens Park game in two weeks time. Also hopefully we've signed another striker and midfielder by then so we're fully ready for the season ahead.

Reilly isn't the answer so I don't understand why people keep pedalling his name every transfer window. If we get another bit of quality upfront and in the centre of the park for cover we should be fine this season.

  11. Brilliant to see us actually managing to hold onto a lead especially when we were down to 10 men. There's absolutely no way an m&m team would have done that. As someone has mentioned hopefully Dixon's not out for long but great to see young Lemon putting in an excellent performance in his absence. Still need another bit of quality upfront and hopefully another centre mid.

Well I thought Peter grant would've been a good choice to replace m and m but thank to feck we didn't. go down that route. Pars German owners must wonder what the feck they have got themselves into.

Don't think Scumferline fans are enjoying him very much. Long live Sheerin!

What’s the hype around Robbie Mutch? He wasn’t that great last season and has made a few costly mistakes. The red card against Forfar and the mistake against Arbroath springs to mind. After Paddy Martins incredible debut I would be tempted to put him in between the sticks on Saturday.

It'll be a case of Mutch is there until he makes a mistake or has a bad day can't really drop him until that happens.

Id be tempted to throw Lemon in instead of Hall. As someone mentioned the amount of times he gets the ball trapped under himself will cost us. Maybe too much for Lemon so soon perhaps

I think Lemon will spend the season learning off of Dixon and filling in for Dixon in certain games being left sided. I doubt we'll see the two of them play in the same centre back pairing given they are both left sided. He was excellent on Wednesday though.

Rather enjoyable game considering the amount of changes made and 5 players were making their first starts.

I’m going to hold my hands up right away and say I got it wrong about Ross. I think he’s very decent even as a sub I’d be comfortable bringing him on if needed. Cannot believe we basically swapped him and Robbie Leitch. The big Albanian lad was very good as was Nesbitt again. The keeper looked assured also. Young Ben Weakes looks excellent as well for his age.

Looking forward to Saturday but a bit pessimistic due to them having their number over us.

If the club really wanted to push the boat out to fill that No.9 jersey , Gavin Reilly from Livi on loan? Most likely will go to the championship but i’d be at least asking.

    Gavin Reilly's rotten.

This is what worries me, our fanbase has been conditioned to accepting mediocrity and it appears that we are now happy to be merely competing for the League 1 title. When Hearts went down to the Championship do you think that they or their fans were content to just compete for the title? I can't accept anything other than the Falkirk squad being clear favourites to win the title.

We finished 5th last season and have money ball Cove & Queens Park to compete with this year. Everyone here obviously expects us to be favourites and hopes we romp the league but actually competing as a starting point will do me as opposed to what we've had to witness the last two years.

It's not accepting mediocrity it's accepting where we are as a club right now as opposed to kidding ourselves year in year out that the league will be tied up by Christmas.

  17. I always said I didn't think Holt was the right man for the role but I'd give him this transfer window to obviously prove that assumption wrong. We've signed the below 15 players so far with hopefully another couple to come in. It's early stages but the majority of them look to be improvements on what we had last year with the exception of Wilson and Holt clearly being a favour to his old man. Resigning Ben Hall was a mistake given he's always liable to a clanger and the fact we've not yet signed a starting striker is a worry but on the whole I don't think we're too far off a good squad capable of competiting for the league title.

Especially helps that Sheerin seems to have an idea what he's doing as that has translated into our performances on the park. The football has been night and day compared to what we've had to put up with the last few years and even as Marshmallo said the fact we've clearly been working on different set piece routines in training is a massive positive.

Just the final few pieces of the squad to improve then we'll be set up for a very promising looking season.

Good to see Keena get a goal. I definitely think he's good enough to be our number 9.

This may be a 'terrible football take' from me, but if Wilson is used to press the defence and 'f**k shit up' then surely we have enough quality in behind him from Morrison Nesbitt and McGuffie to grab goals? I'd expect the 3 of them to have a healthy amount between them. We've seen in modern football that Strikers don't have to chip in with 20 goals a season for teams to win leagues.

I would much rather prefer Keena up top btw but I'm not totally writing Wilson off from playing a part this year.

Wilson's not up to it but thankfully it looks like Sheerin's identified his error early on and hence why he's brought in another striker and is hopefully still looking to add one more as well. Dowds not even coming on last night looks to be the end of him so he'll be up for grabs on loan if we do bring in another striker I'd imagine.

After Lemon's performance last night if it's just the two more players we'll be bringing in i'm hoping it's another centre midfielder and a striker. With Dowds then going out on loan we'd have a squad of 23. Difficult to see where Krasniqi is going to get games in our system as Telfer's our best player and Hetherington's the club captain. Unless the plan is to move Telfer on one and Nesbitt out wide left. With Krasniqi and Hetherington sitting.

One of the most ridiculous statements I'll read this decade......United signing = you have made it

He signed a 3 year deal with a Dundee United team who had just finished 4th in the Premiership and were in the Europa league qualifying. He then turned up overweight to his first preseason what other conclusion would you draw from that other than in his mind he'd made it and let himself go that summer?
