Cry. Cry. Cry.
But give this dreary hand-wringing up. It's tedious.

Amazing points of view on this topic @Tibbermoresaint, I have read your comments and I wish to say that I do not agree with them at all. Which is my right.
I must say it appears you are an addict to this thread and maybe need to seek help. I fear that you may be on the brink of some sort of breakdown.
There are clinics to help with dependency issues.
Leave the thread for the sake of your own sanity.
Are there clinics to deal with hysteria? I hope for your sake there are.

I had no idea that an addiction of this nature could be described as an illness.
It isn't.

So you agree physical addiction is a real thing and not as simple as saying "they choose to be addicted"?
It comes as a result of a decision being made. Tragically for some babies others inflict their choices upon them.

Sorry, no I didn't.
What did they say?Basically telling a poster that his Nephew deserved to die and that he was a terrible Uncle because his Nephew was a drug addict. Pretty vile stuff that me & throbber called out immediately, he should have been booted there & then.
I'd take this with a large pinch of salt.

No they didn't but their body is physically addicted to a substance. How are you failing to see you're completely proving my point by contradicting yourself?
They did not choose to take drugs. Someone else made that decision for them.

You're still trying too hard.

And yet they are addicted to a substance. Kind of proves the point that physical addiction is a real thing and not a choice as you and oaksoft claim, which is entirely the point I'm making.
Did they choose to take drugs? No.

This is staggeringly ignorant. I agree that choosing to go down the route of taking drugs is a choice. The reasons why folk do it have been done to death on here so there's no point in giving my views on it. But to say addiction is a choice is just completely wrong. Physical addiction is a real thing. The body craves the fix. If the person woke up the next day and decided "right, no more drugs". They couldn't get up and carry on a normal day, the body would need the hit. Just look at withdrawal effects on any health website. Are you seriously suggesting the person chooses to have these symptoms? It gets to a point the person wants a hit as much to get rid of the physical withdrawal symptoms than the (likely) psychological problems that made them start in the first place. You're right in that people do have to want to go clean but that's because they need to be in a place where they are going to be able to first get over the struggle of withdrawal and then be able to deal with the problems that made them start in the first place.
Babies born to drug addicts will be on methadone programmes a lot of the time because their bodies are addicted. If addiction wasn't a real thing can you give your thoughts on why this happens?Don't choose to take drugs and you won't be addicted. Addiction is a choice.
