  1. I think the Jimmy Carr gypsy joke resulted in a polis complaint or two. There have been others lately, but I can't for the life of me remember who. What I'm seeing a lot is a culture where people aren't encouraged to take responsibility for their feelings or to engage in introspection. Sometimes the intention behind comedy is to shine a light on hypocrisy and double standards, so it behoves us to have a word with ourselves about what this offended reaction is within us, where it comes from and what we can do going forward.
  2. You think it's shite, and you think he's shite. I get that. But "I don't mind the polis sticking their neb into art so long as it's art I don't like" can't be your position, surely. I don't want comedians having to continually look over their shoulders lest their joke be misinterpreted (wilfully or otherwise) by someone and potentially destroy their careers.
  3. There's a thread on this very forum called "The Gender Debate". Fill yer boots.
  4. This is the issue for me. I know that "cancel culture" can be the war cry of someone who has merely been held accountable within reason, but I do find it worrying that it's becoming normal to have your art investigated by the police because one person became offended by it. I'd prefer it if the polis dismissed this shite out of hand tbqhwy.
  5. The shorts on the Kingsley kit are a pleasant surprise. I wouldn't mind an away kit with that tartan on it. Actually that tartan being incorporated into a black top would be perfect. If we could go back to having Textyle World as our sponsor that would be grand too.
  6. Not a fan of white shorts with the Jags tops at all. That's a smashing top though.
  7. That was great. He's now a not for profit actor in that any money he makes from movies he puts to social action and good causes. Superb fella.
  8. I haven't seen this, but I'll be fucking livid if it isn't Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  9. This reads as quite cynical and nihilistic. We don't really know anybody, and we should allow for flaws and complexity. People tell us who they are through their actions and how they treat people. The "good c***s" on this thread are described as such because they display generosity either through charitable actions or just being warm and welcoming people. It takes too much effort to maintain an illusion of that if it were not the case. P and B is choc full of cynical and negative threads. Every second thread in the GN forum is a variation on a theme of "c***s or things that make me angry". It's nice to focus on good people and good behaviour, to feel gratitude and hope. So aye, kindly gtf with this snidey energy.
  10. Daniel O'Donnell is an absolute diamond of a boy. +1 for Ed Sheeran. I do think his music is awful, but I grudge him none of his success on account of him always coming across as a lovely and humble young fella. One of my favourite videos recently saw him playing pool in a pub (Birmingham?) and a'body in the pub was singing a song of his to him. It was surreal seeing a bunch of pub men (you know exactly what I mean) enthusiastically singing while Ed played pool with a fag hanging out his mouth. It puts a smile on my face just thinking about it. Alfredo Morelos. Controversial choice given his on-field antics (which I absolutely love too fwiw) but gets the nod due to his charitable work back home. The man uses a lot of his wealth to fund projects to help impoverished young folk in his home town. See also Mane, Sadio.
  11. That would be almost delightfully tinpot if true.
  12. I have no idea. One of the jags fans on here mentioned that we were, but given we only brought one out last season surely we won't be.
  13. That Jags away top is heartbreakingly shite. We haven't had a decent top in so long I actually doubt I'll ever buy one again (I'm of course being dramatic). I'd take a similar shaped top to Raith, with that lovely collar, but it's black with a red and yellow pinstripe. Red and yellow stripes (all the way down the back too, with black numbers) and you've got an absolute winner. The Caley away top is alright. I think that design with the right caley blue instead of black would make a class home top.
  14. At aged 39 "no ball games" signs still absolutely boil my piss. The same selfish, grey haired, nimby arseholes who lobby for these signs are the same ones who complain that weans are too fat, or that they get up to mischief (which they will do when opportunities for play have been taken away). I always mind my ma (who moaned about her not particularly noisy neighbours so much you'd think she'd signed up to live in a Trappist monastery) saying that while she liked quiet she much preferred to hear bairns playing loudly and boisterously nearby. If you live in suburbia you should expect, nay, promote that. Anyway, hijacking the thread to moan about, essentially a PTTGOMN. I hope you get some nice goals Thorongil. My da' once made us goals from wood. They looked great, but didn't survive the first use. My da', as it turns out, was the worst DIY-er in South Lanarkshire. Shelves which would be outlived by mayflies. That sort of thing.
  15. Not necessarily, but what to do next time is place sticks of rhubarb (about 3 inches long) on a baking tray, drizzle with honey and bake it for about 10 minutes or until soft and bubbly (but holding their shape). Hae that with yoghurt and you're laughing.
  16. FTFY. It's a ptttgomn but God forsaken means that God has abandoned or given up. I blame Jason Mraz for this mix up.
  17. Tbf a Smirnoff Ice was a smice about 20 (twinty) odd years ago when they first came out. I bet there are chaps who were having a heid's gone about the youth of today when "God be with you" was getting abbreviated to "goodbye".
  18. I can't very well read a Glasgow herald at a bar seat m9.
  19. I love that pars kit. The sponsor logo is unobtrusive enough. Good effort. That Don's home kit is going to absolutely fly off the shelves up here. An absolute corker.
  20. Hmmm, I don't enjoy the inference here, but the folk I saw actually had more issue in the end with how her character wasn't well developed and was the waste of a good actress. I'm not a nerdy SW fan at all. I saw ROTJ and the prequels, but haven't seen the first one (and nothing marks me out as a muggle than referring to "a new hope" as "the first one"). Given the love that old school nerdy Star Wars fans have for Ashoka, your implication of racism would appear wide of the mark. John Boyega as Finn was a character that the fandom, as far as I could see, thought should have been the central character and had the more interesting arc, but was wasted too. There's a vogue nowadays for big studios to deflect attention away from shite writing by calling attention to "toxic fans" with their online abuse. It's generally gaslighting pish. I know it happens, of course. It's awful, but we know that twitter is an absolute cesspit and facilitates some of the worst of behaviour. I appreciate the alternative opinion on her prominence.
