Like most other clubs, we were incurring losses due to Covid and cost of living, but we were also dealing with that shortly after relegation from the top flight and suffering Gary Caldwell as manager, who signed countless duds unfit for professional football and needing replaced. In that context, we nonetheless began last season by signing: David Mitchell Harry Milne Jack McMillan Aaron Muirhead Steven Lawless Aidan Fitzpatrick Danny Mullen Anton Dowds We also signed Cole McKinnon and Liam Hodson on loan, as well as retaining Docherty, Graham, Brownlie, Turner and Smith who were already signed - presumably - with the intention of being regular first-team players. That's significantly more transfer activity than any other team in the division last season, involving players who - on the most part - would have been coveted by other sides. It ought to have been clear to anyone involved that any outcome that didn't involve promotion would set us up for disaster, and here we are. Next season will be a brutal watch and I'd take 8th place right now on the condition that the next year is used to tidy up the books. We should still have a competitive enough squad with the contracted players, but if any offers came in for McMillan, Milne or Fitzpatrick then it would be hard to justify knocking back given the context.

Just a shame that Rangers couldn't keep themselves afloat and let their club die.

Guys - it's been a blast. The Chels have been a disgrace this season, but it's been class to see the banter flying about on here I'll be heading Stateside for July's Barclays Summer Series - hopefully see some of you over there, but we'll get right back at it in August regardless.

Another context is that weve built an ageing squad of players with little-to-no sell-on value, most of whom are probably playing at (or, in some cases, beyond) their ceiling at the top end of the Championship - at the same time as the previous board were registering successive losses with the club. There's no doubt that watching a team of established Championship players is infinitely preferable to seeing Alex fucking Jones or Lewis Mansell (?) pretending to be professionall footballers, but whether we go up or down the new management team will be faced with a significant rebuild on a modest budget sooner rather than later.

They have correctly taken into account that away goals count in Scottish play-off games. The referee and players have overlooked this and are continuing to play on.

Once upon a time, Man United could have punted De Gea to Madrid for 90 mil and Keylor Navas. A decent upgrade in that position would put more points on the board for them than spunking their budget on Harry Kane.

It shows we'd likely have fared a good bit better by changing manager sooner - maybe after the draw away to Cove. That big an upturn in ppg with the same squad is a bit of a showing up for McCall. I don't expect Doolan to sustain that over next season as preparing a pre-season and building a new squad with a likely reduced budget is a whole new challenge, but he's shown more than enough competence to take on the job.

If you offered me two 3-0 wins, I would return the offer to you with disdain. It is important we win this tie in the scummiest, most heartbreak-inducing manner possible.
