  1. How Lochore only scored 1 goal last night is a mystery! they played Lochgelly off the park but the visitors back line and keeper plus some wild attempts at goal meant a nervy end to the game when Lochgelly had two free kicks within shooting range of the goal. The first hit the wall and the second the trees behind the goal.

An excellent game, no one held back from any challenges but players just got up and got on with it.

There was also around 120-150 people there which was good for a midweek when many of the locals "big team" was on free to air TV

We've been given 796 tickets with the possibility we might get more.

    We're sitting/standing in section C6.

Thats the section Saints had, we sold out and then they put fans in D1

I’m in C2, a bit too close to the FCL ultras for my liking. Nothing to do with the fact I’ll be supporting Hibs on the night mind you, just that there’s a bit of a rivalry between Luzern and Aarau, so I have no choice but to want Luzern to take a pumping anyway.

The away section there is spot on. The rail seating is exactly what you want for a good away day.

Are the Ultras still in B2 and B3

They were fantastic in both games and for years Perth was covered in FCL stickers

In those days i did some pitch side photography for Saints socials and in the second leg the UEFA delegate gave us instructions not to take any photographs of the ultras groups due to issues they had had in Switzerland where some local police had used a photographers position to identify banned fans, so as a group they had a deep distrust for photographers.

3 days after the game i got a message via the club asking for a picture from the game they were in the background off as they wanted to use it in their 2015 Ultras calendar, i could have taken so many more shots for them if i had known.

How many tickets are you giving the Swiss for the second leg, I am sure from memory they filled the red and yellow sections of the main stand, the only away support of any significance we got in those run of European night.

Not sure they're desperate just to be in tier 5. I think they're quite happy where they are while trying for promotion.

id agree there is no mad rush at Jeanfield, they are not spending big money and with modest gates and no social club the club is growing slowly with increased gates and may just be happy to try and be the best non SPFL team in Perthshire along with all the community sides they have. Letham in the midland league are their only competition for the community side and Scone seem to be putting a decent team together in the midland but again are not at the same level Jeanfield are.

You only have to look at last summer to see the food chain as it stands. The Jeanfield manager get a promotion at work and stands down so the Luncarty management team move to Jeanfield and the Kinnoull management team then move to Luncarty.

But wouldn't Jeanfield reach Tier 5 quicker by going up the Highland League route rather than down the Lowland League route i.e. winning the EoS and then needing to defeat the WoS champions (if they are licenced!)?

On paper yes but how many WOS teams have won the play offs so far?

It could be the start of a few years of WOS teams going up but there is no guarantee that the EOS team cannot win that playoff if it happens.

Once a few Tayside clubs reach the Highland League could it even encourage the likes of Jeanfield Swifts to reconsider their position in the pyramid?

Jeanfield would get far bigger gates playing in the Lowland than the Highland league with the same being true of the East of Scotland Premier over the Midland.  They are in the correct place.

Just watched this on catch up. Jesus.

"Great start for Theo Bair, scoring on his debut, just what a striker wants especially not having scored many at St.Johnstone"

"Yeah, he'll be delighted. Strikers always want to score on there debut especially when they didn't score many the previous season"

    Thanks for that Charlie.

The analysis on Bair was brutal, Mulgrew first said he was a handful then said he did not know much about the boy or words to that effect

They then showed him running about like a headless chicken, which is what he does and talked this up as if he was a great player , before showing the good movement for the goal and the finish which he did deserve credit for.

  7. The stadium in Geneva is massive, i was over in 2016 when they were on their "journey" back through the Swiss leagues after a couple of financial melt downs and they a dodgy owner....I am not aware of the face painter but everything else will seem familiar

I happen to know the head of media so ended up taking pictures at a local derby played in front of 2000 fans, it was explained to me later that the Swiss fans , especially in Geneva will only turn out to watch a quality team and as the ice hockey team were doing well they were getting all the backing

There are 6 dressing rooms and i would guess that any Rangers fan who wishes a ticket will get one as top end Servette pull about 12,000 to 15,000 fans

Can I be the first to ask - how much is a pint in Norway these days?

Around £10 in Oslo when over with Scotland which was less than in Trondheim with Saints in 2013.

Our fans contacted the pubs in the city for a base and the "Three Lions" reduced the prices for us, there is a Scottish bar close to that which if i remember right is called "The Thistle" but they were about £2 more per pint and only a few of our fans who would not go in the Three Lions due to its name went there.

The stadium is ok and has been done a bit on the cheap with pillars and until game day when all the shops have flags out you wont know you are in a city with a team playing in Europe.

Easyjet Edinburgh to Basel or Edelweiss Edinburgh to Zurich are the only real direct options but both have been eye wateringly expensive for a while now.

Luzern is a cracking city for a session, and a decent ground to watch football in also. Would probably have them as favourites for the tie but they have a lot of players there who are inconsistent and untried at European level, so it’s far from a long shot for you.

Anyway, how easy will it be to score a ticket in the away end?

Possibly the best from my travels with Saints

I wish we built grounds like this in Scotland

You might want to read those posts again tbh.

Regionalisation was worth a try but I agree that it's a much better competition now it has been ditched. Of all the issues with Scottish football, I'd say that the League Cup group is now a genuine success story. It's an opportunity to progress for teams that start well and/or are prepared in time, while others can use it as an extended warm-up. The bonus point system adds a curious wild card that a straightforward 3-1-0 points system wouldn't have done.

The only issue I have is that there should only be 4 bye teams regardless of whether Hibs or some other outfit are battling it out with Andorran pub teams in July. Having  to play in both tournaments is justified by being the 5th and weakest qualifier for Europe, leaving 4 2nd placed teams progressing from 8 groups as a neater and more open system (possibly playing off against each other, although I'm not convinced that would work at short notice).

The play off round could take place the midweek after the groups or at a push the week after with the top 4 runners up all given home ties or even a 1st v 8th , 2nd v 7th etc pre set draw. How many of these games would require much in the way of security.

Scottish Cup entry points use this season.

And that to me seems entirely logical as it happens within the season and does not have seeding as such, just entry points.

In my view both competitions using different systems is good and entirely logical.

A change that still hasn't been made and really should be is relegated clubs retaining a higher seeding. Hamilton being second seeds while Dunfermline are third seeds is a nonsense, as was Dunfermline being seeded above Cove last season, and all the times the relegated top flight club were seeded and the promoted Championship side weren't when we only had four European qualifiers. Fix that and it's fine, assuming they also put an actual system in place for Highland/Lowland qualifiers rather than the joke decision that was inviting Cowdenbeath.

its been that way since the 1980's when the groups were binned the last time and in my eyes its correct.

The seeding for the first phase is based on the season that has just finished final placings, so the ranking at the time of the draw, the new league positions are nothing to do with that seasons cup draw.

    Kinnoull 1-3 Dundonald Bluebell
    Luncarty 2-3 Hill of Beath

Top half Fife-free zone after opening 2 days.

Luncarty taught a bit of a lesson last night in a kind of early season marker game

They had more of the ball and chances to go 3-2 up but Hill of Beath were clinical and scored at great times in the game.

Its going to be a hard season for both Kinnoull and Luncarty

It is the early rounds though, still not really giving much hope for football to be more competitive is it?

The conference league has been a good addition and I think from next year there is no more drop downs after the group stages which will help the Europa and Conference winners be a bit more variable.

The point i am trying to make is that people seem to think its just Scottish teams that struggle at this stage of the competition, its happening all over with teams from larger leagues and with bigger budgets going out or dropping down a competition. Also being realistic we are not the 9th biggest league in UEFA so are punching well over our weight.

Unfortunately when the main competitions start the chances of surprise results drop significantly

  15. The only small tweak that could possibly be made would be to use this midweek as a play off round for the runners up

it would have worked best when we only have 4 teams in Europe and would have the 4 "best runners up" at home to the other 4 runners up

Now 2 runners up would be eliminated automatically so its probably best left as it is.

  16. There are odd results all over Europe at this stage

The Swedish teams have had a nightmare this season

    Rosenborg could not beat Crusaders

Basel lost at home to a team from Kazakhstan

A team from the Faroe Islands beat Ferencvaros in the champions league

We all moan football is too predictable at times, this is all good.

The system its self while designed to keep the top 4 or 5 the same for ever is also designed to keep the rest of the nations moving up and down for ever.  , where we are is as good as it will get and we will drop back to the early 20s at some point before a recovery again in time.
