You'd be surprised or maybe not how many times my handle becomes the topic.

Thought I would get it out the way pronto and then can have an adult-ish talk.

Had a thought when reading the comments 're sizes of each division.

Why does every game need to mean something wrt promotion/relegation.

Fitba is an entertainment and most attending fans love their own team and would watch them play in their back garden.

What is wrong with mid-table teams in a division.

Some will after a few seasons of stability be able to challenge for European places and all that it brings. Some will fall and maybe even get relegated. Surely it shouldn't affect the thrill of watching your team. Also more clubs to visit and be visited by making new friends/enemies along the way.

Personally can watch a game in a local field and still enjoy it without needing it to mean something.

I personally go to around 100 games a year , with around 50 being in the pyramid at levels 6 and below

From the spring when picking a game i select a game that means something to one of the teams. An 8th v 10th in one of the East or Wesr of Scotland leagues will not be of interest unless its a new ground or the only game on that night. Now ive completed the Midland league with 19 teams its the same.

yes you are correct in that the core of fans will go every week but a standard Dunfermline v Falkirk match will not get the same crowds that all 4 games got this season. There is a danger that bigger leagues will result in smaller aggregate attendances across the 42 teams in the league

the story I heard and I don't know how true it is.

jeanfield management work commitments are getting to much to balance the two apparently jeanfield have been wanting the luncarty team for a while but they couldn't leave with the team doing so well.

That is also what ive been told by someone ITK .

The intention may have been to wait until the season was done but it is now for Jeanfield but a few big games for Luncarty.

The Jeanfield manager may be moving to a director of football role .

Luncarty will be an attractive proposition for a good non league manager.

To be fair, Montrose Roselea joining doesn't change much. With 19 clubs one team is idle each round. The only real difference is that with 20 teams nobody will be idle anymore. But in my opinion, more games should be played midweek early in the season.

Short of starting the season even earlier or playing 3 games a week i cannot see how the teams can play any more midweek games early in the season (Those without floodlights)

If i remember correct by the 5th midweek of the season most teams had played 9 or 10 games, which is 1/4 of the season.

More teams with floodlights would help.

No programme tonight for the play-offs is ridiculous, but sadly expected.

Can you imagine the quality updates you would have got from Pat Bonner last night, firstly he would not have been able to find the ground as he sat nav is just following a Celtic supporters bus and secondly he would not have known a single player on the pitch at any of the games, "the boy a has played the ball to the boy b"

Of course he would not be available as he would have been doing his homework on players who may play against Celtic in next seasons Champions league last night.

  5. I went to Lochore v Preston Athletic last night which finished 1-1

An entertaining game as Lochore battle relegation cutting the gap on Coldstream to 3 points with Lochore having 2 games in hand.

Wednesdays game with Whitehill might be vital for Lochore as a win there pulls Whitehill Welfare back into the relegation fight, conversely an away win should just about make the visitors safe.

I think to get something like that off the ground you realistically need something to aim for:

Expanded top flight, definitive no to B teams, fairer financial distribution of funds throughout the SPFL? It also needs to be something fans of most clubs can agree on and unite behind.

You wont get everyone to agree to most of that.

I certainly dont want an expanded top flight, 12 works fine and if you expand it the drop to the second level would be catastrophic.

Man of the match was the Lochore keeper Dale Wotherspoon(sp?). He got his ample frame behind everything thrown at him and his handling, including cross balls, was excellent.

You are spot on there, he also had words with some of the local school kids who came on the pitch at the end and were trying to wind up the Bo'ness players.

He a good keeper and great at winding the opposition up during the game.

This started a five year stint in the top flight under Benny Rooney's management. A part time side who briefly topped the Premier League and made three cup semi finals.

Just about every smaller Scottish team has a small window of punching above its weight. Thinking about clubs like East Fife in the last 40's and 50's with league cup wins and Scottish cup final appearances , Dunfermline in the 60's with Scottish cup wins and even Saints with 3 trophies in the last 9 seasons. It must be a bit gutting that that team only has three cup semi finals to its name and the club has been in decline/left behind a bit ever since.

Agree with your point about the 4 home game quota, but it sounds like this is something that comes from the clubs rather than Sky in order to protect the gate. If there was a more even distribution of games shown across the league rather than A.N. Diddy v OF then it wouldn’t be an issue the clubs would need to worry about.

You can guarantee the 4 game quota came from 2 teams that have a "home support" made up of people who need to come to games on ferries etc. The loss in season ticket money to them if all games were open to them is also to much and would be unfair.

There has to be some limit or Sky would just apply for 72 games (2 per weekend when the old firm are playing another team and 1 when playing each other) and we would get 19 home Rangers games 19 home Celtic games , each top 6 other would get 4 home games and the rest 3 with all being against the old firm.

  10. I am as against this idea as the majority of fans are on here but could not get my head around the small size of this league until last night

They would need it as small as 10 so they can get 4 bigot matches in to then allow those two clubs to recover their entry fees from the 10000 knuckle draggers who will go along to watch their half of the divide against "them" . The rest of the season will be played in front of family and friends yet at the end of the season the average gate will be over 1000 and classed as a success.

A sensible solution would be to end the 4 game quota from each ground

    Id just stop at that

With 48 games and the 4 game quota its going to be almost impossible for Sky to get to game 48 if they show one of the rest v Old firm every week for the first 33 game days and then suddenly want to show something else at the end of the season.

They keep back the other games at Celtic Park and Ibrox just in case it goes to the last day or weeks and that can be seen this season.

Which teams have not had their 4 home game allocation used this season?

From memory Saints have just had the two visits from Celtic and one from Rangers covered this season. As usual no away game coverage at all.

It may be illogical but I'm probably as worried as I've been after seeing the fixtures laid out. But it's still exciting.

On the pitch, what would be thoughts/reaction if we played home League Cup group games at another ground? We just need to get that pitch sorted above all else.

I think that might be the case, as i was told by a member of the grounds team that we had already requested the first league game to be away, that would seem a pointless request if there had already been two games played on it in the league cup.

  13. A few surprise results last night and this shows why the 19 team format is fine for just now.

I was at Scone v Coupar Angus which was a good game. The visitors winning 2-1 despite playing over 45 minutes with 10 men.

1-1 at half time Scone started the second half very strongly and the Coupar Angus keeper kept them in the game for a long time. The visitors were hitting on the break and it was not too much of a surprise when they then took a late chance to win all 3 points.
