Catania were very close to not registering for Serie C this season if I recall correctly - not a surprise that this has happened. I'm sure there were issues a couple of seasons back as well.

Sergio Pellissier has founded a new team, FC Chievo 1929, which apparently is already affiliated with the FIGC. Aiming to start in Serie D, more likely to be Eccellenza if all goes well. Also, Livorno have been refounded under US Livorno 1915 and will play in Eccellenza this upcoming season. They've got 'King' Igor Protti involved as club manager which everyone rightly seems very happy with.

Two more leagues are being introduced next season: Serie C Elite and Serie D Elite. They're being introduced as there are a lot of teams who struggle financially when being promoted from Serie D to Serie C/Serie C to Serie B and this will provide a buffer. The new league structure will be: Serie A Serie B Serie C Elite Serie C Serie D Elite Serie D and then as you were in the leagues below that

There's now a chance that Chievo could register for Serie D. I don't really understand it but I think they can do so if they pay off all outstanding debts to staff - I think. I'm not sure in all honesty. Looks like Chievo legend Sergio Pellissier could come out of retirement to play for the phoenix club if they end up in Serie D. Also, Livorno look like starting again from Eccellenza but there is still a chance that it could be Promozione.

I've no idea. That's just what the article said. The only reason I could think is because there are already existing teams in Verona at a level higher than Serie D. Off the top of my head, there were no other professional teams in Bari, Palermo, Siena, Parma or Venice for example so perhaps that is the case. Also, Livorno may not be bankrupt any more. They've applied to register for Serie D but unfortunately they don't have a stadium.

That's what I thought but apparently the Corriere dello Sport was saying different. Even if it isn't true, they couldn't be placed in Serie D because they aren't the only team who play in Verona (Hellas and Virtus are also professional teams). I didn't know that (the not being able to be placed in Serie D).

Combination of financial mismanagement and bad luck. They were meant to be sold to a Dutch businessman last year but just before the sale went through, he was nicked for money laundering. They were frequently on the brink last season from what I read. Needless to say, I read somewhere that Spinelli is no longer welcome in Livorno. Another team who looks humped is Chievo. There was talk of them having to start again in Terza Categoria a few days ago.
