  1. Heres a question.

If it was announced today that grassroots football could start as of the 28th may ( I know it womt and 100% shouldn't) bit say it was. Would u be happy to jump straight in to it at amatuer level. If so, would u allow your kids to go and play with their own team at say 14 years old

    I wouldn't
  2. A Tory govt’s relaxation of the lockdown will be driven by the economy, it won’t be number of deaths or any other number. That’s what’s happening now, people going back to work, kids going to school etc staycations from July, all because the economy can’t continue haemorrhaging money.
Our FM will follow UK govt with her three week lag and that’s fair enough
They are concentrating on elite sports at present pure and simply because of money.
In the next month or two if the elite stuff goes ok they’ll put out guidelines to allow lower level sport to restart siting the nations mental health. For all of the above reasons I think that’s why football at semi pro, amateur and kids levels will be played in 2020

They have just announced a New taskforce to help sport and arts recover

Turning to sport and the arts, Dowden says their absence has created a "rather odd" feeling in the country.
He announces a new taskforce to look at helping sport and the creative industries prepare to get back on their feet.
Among those who will be involved include former footballer Alex Scott, ex-ITV boss Michael Grade and the English National Ballet's Tamara Rojo.
Thats a positive surely but still depends on a lot of unknowns

The Scottish Govt said even if they relax lockdown to expect social distancing to remain until a vaccine or treatment. Its ok for pro football who are going to test players, ciaches & staff 3 times a week as in Germany. But at £500k per week even pro football might have seconf thoughts about that for empty stadium games? I dont know but I dont feel confident about ammy football for months yet.
  3. Dont worry about it mate. I was called a fearmonger on here 10 weeks ago when I suggested Amateur football should be cancelled due to the virus. I'd call u a realist. That being said I hope your wrong ofcourse.

    I really hope im wrong

  4. You are entitled to think there will be no amateur football till 2021 but reality is you don’t know Nobody does but the fear mongers among us will no doubt revel in casting gloom and doom
In Australia the Football Federation boss James Johnson remains "very confident" that grassroots football will resume in the near future. All football remains suspended until at least May 31, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are 12 weeks till the middle of August when amateur football would normally start and a lot can happen by then Let’s just wait and see

Fearmongers?? Possibly realistic. No one knows but its reasonable to suggest its once a vaccine or treatment is discovered as we have been told lockdown will be relaxed but social distancing remain.
  5. Some of the biggest leagues in the world have spent multi millions of pounds to try and ensure this season is finished. Money the scottish game has not seen in a long time. To think grassroots football is going to worry about playing semi finals of the scottish or the west is ludicrous. Its disappointing for the clubs involved to have made it so far. But we will be lucky to see next season started by August/september and that's being optimistic. People need to look at the bigger picture.

    100% agree with timescale unfortunately
  6. So the SFA and the SJFA look like they have both disgraced themselves with hiw to compete the season. No wonder the SAFA have dodged the bullet and left it to individual associations to decide for themselves.

Or shirked responsibility. Better a boss that can make a decision, even when sometimes wrong, than one that cant make a decision.
  7. It might just be me, or it could have been a joke, but I thought the Sandy tweet about winning the league lacked class. You win, enjoy it, celebrate it, but the tweet was poor imho

    This is what was put up;
To the teams who tried and failed heres another wee pic (of the league shield) for use.

Better luck next year (to the ones still running)

    4 in a row [emoji471][emoji471][emoji471][emoji471] https://t.co/apJhJKJ3q3

Theres other tweets about "no one likes us" is that a thing about Sandys? Going by their twitter posts kind of understand why few would like them
  8. It might just be me, or it could have been a joke, but I thought the Sandy tweet about winning the league lacked class. You win, enjoy it, celebrate it, but the tweet was poor imho

  9. St Pat's have lost their 3 best players to Drumchapel WOS team. If the season does resume (unlikely) are these guys allowed to play? If the majors get finished as a minimum can these guys play in the West semi? I would assume not so doesnt seem like it would be the same season.

One of the reasons I think people need to just let last season go. It was explsined to me that if they play cup games you csnt play new players who played for another team last season snd you cant pkay players who have moved on, signed with other teams. Bit of a farce tbh. I get its a dissapointment to have reached a semi final.
  10. Ties in with one of my points in the OP about pubs and how much clubs depend on their funding. But you're right, lots of small businesses who donate to clubs a couple of hundred quid here and there will be having to cut their cloth when this is all over and won't be handing money out willy nilly.
There's huge issues on the horizon for the game.
I agree with the keeping people interested aspect as well and the fact that the longer it goes on players might just not come back. Particularly older, experienced players. The thought of getting fit again etc could be a turn off and there will also be a lot of issues for people getting away from the wife/family 2/3 times a week again now that the woman have been used to them being there all the time for months! [emoji3]

Or......the wives/girlfriends came to a realisation that guys being home more often is not the utopia they thought it would be [emoji2]
  11. Whilst social distancing measures are in place, there's simply no way the amateur game will get back up and running again. There are a few issues here:
    1) Leisure centres are going to be the last places to open. Whilst social distancing measures are still in place, you simply won't be allowed to cram 20 bodies into a small changing room. Social distancing measures are impossible to implement.
    2) Following on from point 1, if you have no facilities then you have no game.
    3) Another aspect a lot of people are not factoring in - Pubs. Again, pubs will be among the last places to open. You will be lucky to see a pub again this year. This is going to have a massive financial impact on the amateur game in terms of sponsorship. It will eliminate the single biggest revenue stream for an amateur club going into the new season and without this income, many clubs simply won't be able to meet their liabilities. Would also mean clubs can't provide the compulsory option of hospitality etc.
All of the messages coming from the Scottish Government (and UK for that matter) is that social distancing is going to be here in one shape or form until a vaccine is found. This could take us well into next year.
The issues I have mentioned aren't really specific to amateur either. It will have massive implications for the Semi Pro game as well. They might have their own private parks (the majority of them) but they won't be able to open their social clubs with social distancing in place which kills their main revenue stream. Which in turn means they won't be able to honour player contracts. There's many more issues you could add to what I feel are the main problems.
I think there's a huge amount of denial at just how serious the situation is for the football community. I don't see any situation that doesn't see mass folding of clubs and possibly even league associations as well.
    Worrying times for our game.

I didn't know that but if the Govts are saying social distancing remains until a vaccine then you cant play football and still have 2m social distancing rules. That means no football until at least 2021?? Horrendous. That said why would loads of teams fold. They've nothing to pay for if no football on. Why would leagues fold?
  12. I do not often agree with you "Amateur Footie Fan" but your are right on this...……….. wonder why they did not

Not got a clue tbh. Is there something you know that would enlighten us.......
  13. Regionalisation is 100% the way forward for one season then create 2 super Divisions after that season. And the  remaining teams just continue to play in regions
Simple to do for Saturday afternoon football and The SAFA are aware of it [ and have small support within it ]  as we put it forward to them back Last September B4 the shut down.

Don't often see eye to eye with you auld yin but it has merits. My suggestion of merging Caley & Central imho was to make it more straightforward if the 2 leagues would put their heads together. Thereafter you could regionalise it and have promotions from the regions, IF the teams in the top positions wanted to progress.
  14. With Oban going to Central and St Jos to Caley i think both these leagues have arguably the best teams in the west central belt in their leagues. It would be great if they joined (West of Scotland Amateur League) it would instantly create the league in that area where all the best teams competed together. Would be fantastic. SAFL & GGPL could feed into this and would be good for them as ambitious clubs wanting to progress would need to win their Premier Leagues to get into WoS Am.

  15. So if leagues are going null and void you then have boys moving on to new teams for the new season how can you possibly play out the Scottish and west . All leagues must come to the same conclusion in these difficult times

Agreed. Its a stupid situation where leagues may null and void a season (which most seem to be doing,) and players move clubs. Then they start playing the Scottish Cup etc with different players. A decision should be made by the SAFA that all leagues follow so that its done the same across yhe board.
  16. Yeah it was struggling and has been for years but i think in times like these u have to be optimistic.
My opinion for the rest of the season is why not wait until we know exactly when games will be safe to be played again?
Dont think theres any rush to jump into any final decisions the now tbh.

I get what you're saying about no rush but common sense tells us that when the EARLIEST games can start is mid to end of July everyone knows theres no way you can feasibly finish this season (lot of parks wont even be open then) and have a full 2020/21 season. The alternative is to squeeze in 3 games a week to finish this season and then do the same to get in next season or cancel cups etc. Most ive spoken to just want to see the back of this season and try and have a full season whenever guys can get back playing.
  17. I honestly cant understand the delay with the amateur game. Just call it now and void the season. Sure some people wont be happy but its not as if theres financial implications like there is in the professional game. Let teams know now and be done with it and at least clubs no they will be starting afresh whenever this has ran its course.

If you look at the various leagues SAFL, GGPL, Caledonian and Central some teams haven't even played 50% of games. IF they start back in August theg would need to play until about October without ant any games off to finish. Then how do you play the next season. Huryy up, make a decision that is blindingly obvious to everyone and announce new season will start WHENEVER games can be played. Turning into an absolute shambles of dithering
  18. I think the SAFA will just do what the seniors do. Well maybe minus the corrupt part

I cant see the point in trying to squeeze the last 3 months of a season into the first bit of next season then squeeze next season into whatever is left. Surely if they're talking no football until mid July at earliest the common sense thing is to start 2020/21 then? Dissapointing for teams who were top of league or in promotion but its not exactly normal times.
  19. When this lockdown is relaxed enough to allow football to restart, all those who want summer football should go for it. Create a new league or leagues ask clubs to join and see what response you get Graham3179 has already said the rules are all in place so go for it You could start now on this forum by asking clubs to state if they would definitely switch if it was started up.

All talk and no action im afraid. Guys like to moan about everything but when you ask them to get off their arse and do something about it themselves theyre too "busy" for that. Its always someone else who doesnt have a clue thats the problem.
