  1. For me, I don't think washing our hands of Kettlewell is as easy it would be to look at e.g, a goalkeeper or club captain who had served the club reasonably well for a few years but was now out of contract and would probably do everybody a favour by moving on. With a manager I think you probably do have to take extenuating circumstances into account- IF Kettlewell gets us to 10th or above, I think you probably have to say that he's met most of our pre-season expectations and has at least proven himself to be a semi-competent Premiership manager over that period. In that situation I think you're probably better sticking with the guy who has at least spent a year clearing the decks and will be a bit more ahead in terms of planning for next season than we would be if we rolled the dice and appointed someone else in June.

McInnes obviously has much more of a track record but still finished 10th with Killie last season and they're seeing the benefits of sticking with him. Even County would probably be in a better position if they hadn't sacked Malky.

  2. Not going to pretend that this was what I was thinking at about 9pm in Greenock on Friday but the Morton game is the first time in 2 months that both manager and team simply haven't turned up in at all. That was a run of 9 games after the County loss where we only lost once, to Rangers. Even the actually good Motherwell teams rarely go ten without some sort of massively disappointing and humiliating showing. We should never really be losing to Championship teams but Morton are on a pretty mental run and probably aren't massively weaker than Livi, Ross County or St Johnstone. If we'd lost to any of them in the most recent league games but won 5-0 at Cappielow it'd probably be worse for our season as a whole but I don't think would have resulted in the same sort of inquest.

Sort of jumping on Casagolda's point but I think it's the same sort of logic that always led to folk wanting the entire backroom staff sacked whenever we lost to Accies but not Inverness or Partick Thistle or whoever when they were all in the league.

  3. I think Kelly is just a fucking idiot tbh. Relying on his reflexes rather than actually thinking is probably why he'll pull off the odd wonder save or penalty but we're seeing much more of the downside now on a pretty regular basis. Obviously he might be different behind closed doors but based on his interviews and general demeanour I can't really see him as captain material.

I was previously in the camp of "he's obviously not English Championship or Scotland international level, but he's a decent Motherwell goalkeeper and I'd be happy for him to stick around" but I'm past the point of defending him. Hopefully he goes to St Mirren.

  4. I dunno if the 2hr long journey home from Greenock has mellowed me or something but I'm not as angry as I was leaving the ground. I think I'm just about willing to forgive Kettlewell/the team one absolutely diabolical performance after what has been a pretty decent two months. Obika and Kelly pissed me off the most but honestly I'm just ready for this season to be over. I'm still just about confident that Kettlewell has happened upon a system that will keep us in the league.

I did wonder if he'd end up back in the Canada squad, Paton made it in October and their front line varies from actually good players: David and Larin, to pub league participants.

Get in, get us bank, please.

I'm surprised we haven't went into overdrive on that front on Twitter yet given we were trying to get Sondre a Canada cap at one point
