  1. Thing is, he wasn't supposed to be a bit part player. Cost a fee and must have been on decent wages, coming from PNE.
Agree with that. Got some good moments out of him, but he never even made himself an automatic starter over two years at the club. Wish him all the best, but I'm not convinced he'll be badly missed.
  2. Sad to see Horgan go especially considering we’re light in an attacking sense. That day out at Tynecastle was up there with the best of them as many above have said.
Are we light? We've got 3 wingers, 3 strikers, and 2 attacking central midfielders. That's 8 players for a max of 4 places. Murphy was brought in as a replacement for Horgan I think it's safe to say.
  3. It would be a hard case to make that Ross hasn’t done a good job at Hibs so far. He took over a shambles and we must’ve been one of the better performing sides outside the OF since.
My only question mark with him is that we’ve occasionally had these totally flat, shite performances that are as bad as anything that came before him. Aye Aberdeen won all their battles, didn’t let us in the game and all that but we’ve seen a few other equally limp no shows from us.
We’ve probably got a bit of space above and below us in terms of spending in the league and fourth should be a fair target. Less than that this year and I’d be disappointed in his performance.
Dunno like. I think we've been utterly garbage in what are big games. Only good performances was v Aberdeen at home, and at Tynecastle last season. Shat it in the ER Derby, zero penetration against Aberdeen last two games, and never laid a glove on Celtic or Rangers under him.

The Aberdeen strategy of beating the sides worse than you for getting a good league position isn't a bad one, but it's limiting if you're really not much better than many other sides. I think Ross might start stretching patience pretty quickly if we keep looking toothless against anyone half decent.
  4. The reason for the loan to buy is 100% that we don’t want him playing against us this season.
We told Hibs this was the deal for McCrorie too, they tried to negotiate a straight sale so we sold him to Aberdeen instead. Hibs presumably didn’t want to take the risk this time so just accepted the terms.
This’ll be the way Ross Wilson sells every player to a Premiership side. It’s a marginal gain for us.
Don't disagree that it suits Rangers better, but Murphy was out of contract next summer, and presumably would be on a higher wage which would be the difference to Hibs. Rangers will be paying a bit of his wage that they wouldn't be this season. Finances probably dictated Hibs accepting it for Murphy when they didn't for Mccrorie.
  5. I don't really mind the loan then signing thing it's the idea we were not prepared to sign McCrorie on terms that meant we couldn't play him vs Rangers but now with Murphy we are?
Still I guess I was half right about the next player after Boyle signing his extension being a loan.
My suspicion would be that Murphy is on significantly higher wages than Mccrorie was so the finances probably wouldn't work for outright signing him. We'll be paying a percentage of his wage rather than all it for the next season then he moves onto a new Hibs wage.
  6. No real idea why Lennon started with that lineup last night - especially given the strikers at his disposal.
The beginning of the end of his tenure at Easter Road was similar - a festive season derby at Tynecastle and he was the only person who could fathom his bizarre lineup. Predictably after that crap display Lennon started to get pissed off at all and sundry.
Maybe he thinks hes a better coach than he really is?
He makes a c**t of something then throws his players under the bus. You can see why he's got a shelf life as a manager.
  7. After your last two matches, Hibs luck has to run out soon. I hope that it is on Sunday, but given that we haven’t been great either, who knows.
Aberdeens last two games have seen you win with a deflected goal and a stonewall penalty not given against you. Is Aberdeens luck not due to run out too?

Aberdeen give us fits every time we play them, would be happy with 3 points regardless of performance in this one.
  8. At the risk of sounding sexist, having watched the highlights of Glasgow City vs Wolfsburg, you’ve got to question the value of the female players opinions on “elite” football.
We should be listening to yours though due to your extensive experience of playing at World Cups and that though aye?

Women are as perfectly capable of coming out with absolute shite as men. Judge them on what they're saying.
  9. 45 minutes this evening dedicated to whinging about some lower league side not being permitted to train for a week.
Tom English has gone off the richter scale in recent months, used to enjoy listening to him - but his credibility is shot.
Levein decrying how unfair it is ahead of a Scottish Cup semi final that is still 2.5 months away.
McIntyre just stirring it up like some LBC or Talksport shockjock.
Thankfully Daryl Broadfoot was on to calm everyone down and explain nicely............
I'm absolutely baffled at Hearts argument about the cup semi final. They'll have 2 league games, 2-3 league cup games, and presumably 4 or 5 friendlies before the game. So potentially 10 games.

You'll literally be able to win the World Cup playing that number of games, including warm up games, but Hearts can't prepare for a game against Hibs properly somehow.
  10. Our chairman mewled in January about us facing a loss because we sat so low in the table. He claimed we'd have to finish top six, and have a cup run, to break even.
We ended up finishing 6th and got a home tie against Celtic with a crowd over 8000.
I'd be stunned if our ~£3m in the bank had dropped enough we need to sell players on long contracts for fees in the low six figures.
Are you accounting for your club having no income for 6 months? Because that would seem relevant to every club in the country.
  11. Aye, but he was also entering the final year of his deal, and Dunfermline needed the money to build a squad for this season.
McCann has 3 years on his deal still, should get capped when NI next play, and we have almost £3m in the bank going by the last accounts. All sounds from the club is they want him to break our transfer record (£1.8m).
Its not obvious to fans of other clubs who don't, understandably, pay any attention to St Johnstone business, but anyone expecting the younger players to be sold off on the cheap are miles out. The club has committed to developing these players over the past few years, and have culled the senior players to help pay for larger, extended, deals for the "kids".
If your accounts are like Hibs they would have been a snapshot on the date of the accounts. Hibs had 5m sitting in the bank on our accounts as of 2nd July 2019. It's pretty safe to assume we don't now.

I'm not saying St Johnstone are in trouble at all, but accounts a year out of date aren't going to be giving you an accurate picture.
  12. Boy who started that claimed youd signed Stephen O'Donnell last week...
Again, if you're not going above £200k for McCrorie, then you won't be signing Kerr. We apparently rejected more than that for him in January from the Championship.
That clip is exactly what I was talking about when I was saying what I want in a DM tbh. Sitting in front of the defence in space to take the ball out. Gives options to every player in every area to take a pass.

Hibs can't afford McCann, don't think you'll get much argument there, but the financial landscape is very different now from January for every club. Hibs got Nisbet for about half the price we offered in January.
  13. I think we just disagree on his ability and potential tbh. I wouldn't break the bank for him and won't be upset if we don't get him, but a player who gives us depth in 2 positions we're short in and is still young enough to improve a decent amount, at an affordable price, is a bit of a no brainer for me. I've always been impressed when I've seen him and rangers fans I know think it's a shame they'd let him go (albeit they don't think he'd ever be a first choice there.) But I can understand why folk would be unfussed by him.

I'd agree the four you mention are better, but availability is sort of prescient if we're talking about players Hibs would bring in. And I don't think any of the players you've described are the same type of player at all. Campbell and Ferguson have bite but are both box to box midfielders primarily; Irving and McCann are more technical players and again McCann isn't really a deep lying player either is he?

No unreasonable points. McCann in particular I'd disagree about his position, he's deep sitting, I'd say the same with Campbell to an extent. Both can get forward but they're disciplined when they do it.

I suppose what I'm actually thinking, accepting your argument to an extent and given the players I've mentioned, is that I'm probably wanting a Mcgeouch type beside Gogic. And I don't think Mccrorie is anything like good enough to play that role which is why I'm probably judging him differently from you.

  14. Genuinely curious who these players are? Can't think of any that would be available

I never said available tbf, but Campbell, McCann, Ferguson, and Andy Irving I'd have ahead of him. About the 5th best youngish Scottish deep lying midfielder of his age isn't something that is going to improve us very much.

I wouldn't hate it as a signing, and I've been wrong about plenty players before, but I just don't fancy him much. I don't think he's an upgrade on Hallberg who isn't starting atm.

If we're looking for someone in that position I'd look for someone younger who'll be trying to break into the team and develop. Or pick up an experienced free agent who we maybe couldn't have looked at pre virus who needs a club. You either acquire potential to be better than you have, or better than you have got now. Mccrorie looks to me to be a bit worse than Gogic or Porteous and hasn't been developing enough for Rangers to want to keep him. I think Jack is a good player, but someone not even pushing him for a place isn't good enough imo.

  15. I can only speak from what I've seen of McCrorie but I felt one his strengths in defensive midfield for us was his tactical intelligence. He read the game well, has a great engine in him and would tackle his granny for the ball. We played him at right back, centre back and centre mid and it was clear as day that his best position was centre mid. Weirdly, he's never had a full season at any club in that position, he's always shunted around. I don't doubt he would develop a lot if he was given a full season in his best position. Not sure he's a replacement for Porteous, he's a decent stop gap at centre back but wouldn't be counting on him there long term.
Edit to add - the first game we actually played McCrorie at defensive midfield was in a 2-2 draw at Easter Road, incidentally. He was tremendous for us that day.
To be fair I've not seen that much of him, but I thought he was looking to make tackles rather than holding the shape you need your DM to do. I also thought he wasn't very good at either showing for defenders or recycling the ball further up the park due to the positions he took up.

He might well be a better player now than then tbf. But if its the same player who played for Rangers a couple of years back I don't think he's close to being an upgrade on anything we already have. And I'm really not fussed about paying money for players like that.
