  1. Last weeks article fro mthe FFP - given he wasn't there on Saturday, it doesn't look like he is staying... Kevin Cuthbert could be on his way out of Raith Rovers despite an offer to remain as John McGlynn’s number three. The highly-regarded coach had been operating as caretaker manager for the past three weeks, having previously served as Barry Smith’s assistant prior to his resignation. Despite the backing of players, the 36-year-old’s hopes of landing the job on a permanent basis were ended by disappointing draws against Brechin and Montrose. And with returning gaffer McGlynn insisting on bringing in Paul Smith as his no.2, Cuthbert is likely to have been offered a lesser role to stay at Stark’s Park. Club chairman Bill Clark explained that the former goalkeeper was still deciding his future, but that initial indications were that he would not take up the new role.“Three members of the board including myself spoke with Kevin on Monday,” Clark said.“He already had it in his mind that recent results have gone against him, and his expectations were that he wasn’t going to be appointed as manager. “So we offered him another position as coach, with certain responsibilities, so it could have been a group of three. “He has so far decided that he probably doesn’t want that job, but has gone home to mull it over. “He’s still an employee of the club, we’re still talking to him, but it’s up to him now just what he accepts. “It’s the same salary as he was on - the conditions didn’t change - but he’s mulling that over. “We expect we’ll resolve that by the end of the week.” Read more at: https://www.fifetoday.co.uk/sport/football/raith-rovers/cuthbert-considering-raith-future-after-arrival-of-new-management-team-1-4805529
  2. I imagine that will be the 3rd signing they alluded to on the email.
  3. Surely its about getting someone in we can afford. We have to live within our means. Are you offering to put your hand in your pocket to contribute to a manager who'll command a higher wage? No? Yet you expect and demand others to spend money we don't have.
  4. There needs to be a lot more done - Club needs to find reliable sources of income, rather than expecting any of the fans groups to constantly keep bailing them out. The commercial brochure is certainly a start - improving the hospitality offering is another. We need to get more business savy than we have been in past years at the club. Improve commercial and sponsorship revenue, get more local businesses involved. The other side is attracting more fans. Performances and promotions will aid that. Attract the missing 3,000 from the 4,500 that rocked up to Alloa as their only game of last season.
  5. Some folk getting awfy worked up on here about rumours and stories that may or not be true. Anyway - lets move on. I'd not be against Cuthbert getting it. I hope he is a serious candidate. It would allow a bit of continuity, and he is well thought of at the club. What I'd also hope is if he is given the chance, he is allowed to bring in an experienced assistant coach to help him out. We've went from having a coaching staff of 4 last season (Smith, Cuthbert, Robertson, Easton) to 2.
  6. according to Matt Elder on Twitter - discussing his notice period.
  7. Perhaps they feel the issues leading to his resignation can be fixed, and are attempting to work around a solution. They have obviously backed him. His Players - His Squad. Time will tell, although I would be stunned, as many would, if we announced BS would continue/come back. I can't recall a situation in recent memory where a manager has resigned, then came back a week later.
  8. what makes it obvious that it is Sims? I'd expect it to be the other way around - If you've got a difficult relationship with the board, that's likely to be the ones there on a day to day basis surely?
  9. still in talks with Smith? as in.... he might come back as manager? I can see the uproar from some on here when that happens!!!!!!!!
  10. Great player for us, but he was dreadful at Berwick was he not?
  11. He didn't really criticise it - just commented about the bedding in - surely the benefits of training on it and helping the players get used to the surface are more important. You talk about the facilities at Michael Woods - that's all fine and dandy, but at what cost. We have to cut our cloth accordingly. Players can get the same training where we are, and utilise local gyms if needed.
  12. Whilst I see some sense, the new manager will have to work with the board, share their vision, work to their agenda. And like it or not, these guys are the ones putting the money and time in currently to keep the club afloat - they will want to bring in their own man.
  13. He got the Bradford job yesterday anyway! was always a non starter, having turned down clubs much bigger than us.!
  14. Not the worst shout I've heard. Certainly more of an option for me over Stubbs, Hartley etc....
  15. even though the window is closed, we can still bring players in on free to bolster the squad if budget was to magically be available. There are some decent players out there without a club - older, perhaps, but could easily do a job in this division. It may have been a case that with the relationship breaking down, the board were not prepared to take the chance he would leave, and therefore holding some back. Sims is not short of a few quid - if he wanted to put his hand in his pocket for the right man, he would. Its not a bad job to take. Someone coming in would have to work with a full time team in a part time league - that's an advantage there itself. We are playing pretty well, and getting the right man
  16. its a decent job for a manager to come in and rebuild their reputation, or someone young wanting to make their name. As much as many folk here will disagree, we'll have one of the best squads in the league, and a great opportunity to win the league. Even though we've got a fairly small squad of 21, potential managerial candidates will still fancy their chances with us. Maybe a Danny Lennon, but we'll not take someone currently at a club as can't afford compensation. Peter Houston out of work - did very well with Falkirk. Jim Duffy i wouldn't have a problem with. Potentially a few younger coaches out there as well that may chuck their hat in the ring.
  17. So we have what you are describing as a first team of 16, and a squad of 21..... Irrespective of whether or not they are ready, they are still squad players. They'll be used when and if we need them to play.
  18. So squad players then? They wouldn't have been resigned if they didn't have potential. Valentine looks decent - played a few games this season already.
  19. Decent then we are running a squad of 21! Thompson, Wright, McGuff Watson, Davo, McKay, Bene, Murray, Valentine Wedderburn, Gillespie, Matthews, Milne, Flanagan, Berry, Stevenson Vaughan, Nesbit, Buchanan, Duggan, Smith
