  2. Greig Spence scored 19 goals last season in a team that got relegated. Mind you, he picked up six yellow cards too. http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=51732
  3. We have previously done well by signing players from that division. I'm actually quite pleased to see us linked with two young players but ones who have a bit of experience under their belts.
  4. I think criticism of Barr in 'midfield' is a little unfair. He was usually deployed between defence and midfield in a 4-1-4-1. I thought he did a decent job in a difficult role.
  5. There are two groupings for the League Cup, north and south. One team from the south has to join the north group to even up the numbers. Guess who it is....... http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/competitions/league-cup/new-league-cup-format-could-see-glasgow-and-dundee-derbies-1-4138337?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed
  6. Nicky Phinn spotted buying a first aid kit in Poundland in the High Street.
  7. Camp as a camp site in the Campsies in a camper. Their hashtag is still effective at giving me the dry boak though.....

  9. He's been through some hard times but he's a good man. Best signing Dumbarton never made.
  10. I think it was the pre match billing. Dumbarton (Scottish Cup Winners) beat Blackburn Olympic (FA Cup Winners) 6-1 at Boghead for the 'Championship of Britain' Renton's victory, also in an unnoficial match, was at a time when Scottish clubs had been banned from competing in the FA cup. It was at a neutral venue, Cathkin Braes (or Hampden as it was called at the time) and was billed as 'Championship of Britain and the World'. I remember Sons playing WBA in a centenary of Renton's triumph - a pre season friendly. Gordon Mills, by that time 26 and who had been a top junior striker was a trialist for Sons that day. He was about two years younger than me and both he and his older brother Archie were great Sons fans. We didn't sign him. Our loss was Auchinleck Talbot's gain.
  11. 128 years ago today, Renton FC became World Champions.
  12. Beat me to it. We were 3-1 up at half time but it ended up 3-3.
  13. I'm afraid that my memory of that game is so clear that I can even remember the Rovers' numbers on their strips were red. It was the banded strip we wore until the change. Steve Aitken wasn't even born at this time......
  14. However, the Old Crocks were made up of former Old Firm and Dumbarton players. It was an annual event. I don't think the three players you mention ever turned out for them tho'
  15. He's almost right on that one. It was sunny but it was winter sun. A cold day in November 71 v Albion Rovers. Sons started the game in the white strip with the bands. Rovers had an utterly ghastly strip described as 'primrose yellow' with white sleeves. In reality the yellow was barely darker than the white. Midway through the first half, the ref sent the Dumbarton team off to change into the gold shirts and black shorts. ETA sons won 3-0 via a Kenny Wilson hat trick.
  16. Although..... Here is the late Hughie Gallagher in an all white strip with Yours Truly (aged 12). This was an old crocks match at Rhu Amateurs in 1972.
  17. I saw all of the games that these three played together at Boghead. I am certain they never played in an all-white strip.
  18. Before that it was pretty much this, or occasionally vertical stripes. However, the white was usually there in the shorts......
  19. I was one year out. It was 1964. The white strip with centre band has been the most used and I'd say popular design in those years.
  20. Anyone know what Steve Lomas is doing these days?
  21. Not checked back to see if this has already been posted
