Knew him well. Willie Muir from Helensburgh. Boghead announcer from early 70s until mid 90s, I was friendly with his son. Willie died last year.
I'll let OKI3 tell my favourite anecdote about Willie.
Just reading the Airdrie thread and Lister's situation. Apparently the reason he is leaving is that he won't go full time with Airdrie as he has a good job.
Surely worthy of consideration.
I liked Simon Barrow's quote last night when he accepted his award for his considerable contribution to both Sonstrust and the club. A taxi driver asked which team he supported and Simon answered "Dumbarton". On the driver enquiring why he didn't support a big club, Simon answered:
"I support a football club, not a corporation."
Three attendees tonight (one a player) wearing sports jackets with leather patches on the elbow. Who knew that woodwork teachers in the 1970s should be fashion trendsetters in the 21st century?
To be serious for a minute, I've yet to meet one person who thinks that 12:30 tomorrow, Sunday, is in any way, a good time for the Alloa v Dumbarton game.
Yet another fail from the SPFL.
I see from this morning's Herald that Sons fan and former club director, Billy Walker has just sold his Benriach Distillery Company. .........for £95 million.
On a brighter note we are four goals away from a total of 6000 league goals. Many clubs haven't achieved this feat Aberdeen amongst them. Thanks to super Sons fan Jim Jenkinson who revealed these to stats to me.
Jim says we'd be the 13th club to reach this total.
Anyone who wasn't fortunate enough to be at pre match hospitality, this gives a flavour of it. One of the 'Secret Opera Singers' had posed as an Italian steward at DFC before giving us a blast of Pavarotti. The guy at the beginning of the clip here was 'a chef' at the club. He sings 500 miles of key before giving his contribution. These guys were amazing. The footage here was captured by Alan Findlay on his phone. We had a party of seventeen at hospitality yesterday, the majority of whom weren't supporters of either side.
They left having enjoyed not just the football but a fantastic day all round. Well done DFC and Keith from KG Instalation and Design for arranging the entertainment as part of his wife's birthday celebrations. http://www.kgdesignandinstallation.co.uk/
