  1. Probably something I made up. I don't get to many games these days. I thought it started with McNiven (possibly), got traction with Dobbie (certainly), and was played for whoever was the top scorer (as a throwback to Dobbie mk1.). If that's not the case (and it definitely seems not), it should be...
  2. I quite like the Shrek clip for whoever is our top scorer at the time, it's a wee bit of tradition, but that gooaallll thing is embarrassing imo. A rare misjudgement from our normally brilliant announcer.
  3. Interesting that after the game today the OS added an article about Hughie Gallacher. Purely coincidental no doubt that Gallacher's debut for Queens was a 7-0 victory over St Cuthbert's.
  4. I can certainly try! I didn't mean to this week but the highlights were just so watchable I about had them on repeat.
  5. Also excited by Dykes. He displays a lot of natural talent, particularly his pace, touches and movement. On the latter see 3:57 into the video, he gets around the defender superbly to meet the cross (albeit the finish is lacking, but that can be worked on). ETA: A few other things I'm enjoying from the highlights: - Dykes' touch around 3:40 - The fully ten second hug between Del and Dobbie after the second goal - Dowie's wee look at Mark Millar as they celebrate the second goal
  6. Unbelievable signing. It is difficult to let it sink in. Stephen Dobbie is a Queen of the South player again. My word... Robinson in goal, Dowie and Higgins at the back, Dobbie and Lyle up front. Skelton is building almost the perfect blend of experienced club men and our own youth prospects. Looking forward to the league opener with much increased optimism!
  7. Don't post much and may be well off on this but worth saying. When we signed Steven Rigg, the official site said "Gavin was delighted to get his man after trying to sign him for Workington before he joined Carlisle". I remember thinking that Queen of the South and Workington are two different clubs and it would be important Gavin adjust his approach. We now have friendlies with Gretna, Annan Athletic, Penrith and either Ayr United or South Shields. Not sure how many friendlies we will get arranged but that is a good number against teams at/around the Workington Reds level. Again may be well off - probably am - and Skelton hasn't been manager for long enough to tell, but something to watch....
  8. ^ This part made me look at the Under 20 squad. Some how Scott Robertson has snuck back in there.
  9. The discussion they were having was a comparison of this season's squad with last season's squad. In that regard it is entirely fair to compare Holt and Marshall as they play(ed) in the same position. It is possible to say that Marshall is not as good as Holt without denigrating Marshall, just as it is possible to say Conroy is not as good Messi without denigrating Conroy. I think you have misinterpreted Mr X's comment, though I (and everyone else I am sure) saw that coming.
  10. How much fun is it watching the Premiership these days. Jamie MacDonald in goals for Kilmarnock tonight, Greg Kiltie just won them a penalty and former QoS youngster Aaron Splaine on free-kicks. Meanwhile, Gavin Reilly scores a penalty as Robbie Neilson's Heart of Midlothian go top. Has any other club made such a large contribution to Scotland's national game???
  11. I hope we sign Ian Black. I look forward to watching his partnership with Dowie flourish.
  12. Interesting friendly coming up next week when Pontypridd Town take on Deportivo de La Coruna in Spain. Pontypridd currently play in the fourth tier of Welsh football. This is their ground: And this is Deportivo de La Coruna's:
  13. True, but you could link to the news reports as match reports, and/or write 'Bounce game' or 'Closed doors' instead of friendly?
  14. Mr X, is there any chance you can put the closed door friendly results on the OS fixtures page? They are clearly a staple in our pre-season programme and it would be nice to be able to give them all the once over on one page.
  15. Mr X I am also often not at games and I am quite satisfied with the level of coverage. Fact is between home team and away team, every game gets some sort of indepth Twitter coverage, so if the club is shorthanded then providing live commentary should not be a priority.
  16. Tonight's teams (borrowed from the Killie thread) Jim Atkinson still second choice in goals, and with all these development fees you'd have thunk they could afford a new ink cartridge for the printer!
  17. Fair enough, it seemed a lot less than discussed for other players.
