With squads still to be completed and pre season disrupted for many, it is a bit of a futile exercise trying to predict the season ahead.
However, I don’t think there will be a run away team at the top (QP or Cove) or a Brechin, Berwick at the bottom, resulting in a close league with not much between top and bottom and all teams capable of a result against each other. Kelty look the favourites but don’t think they are outstanding, at the moment. I don’t see any clear favourites for bottom spot with probably 6 of the teams capable of finishing there.
As for my own team, we have signed most of last seasons squad and as long as Hester stays we will score goals. I think we will add a couple of players but at the moment I don’t see us as being stronger while a lot of teams have strengthened. I predicted us to finish anywhere between 3rd and 8th last season and I’ll go for the same this year.
As with others a lot will depend on keeping key players injury free and players Covid free which will have a major bearing this season I believe.

Our coverage was generally one of the better streams last season. Not sure what went wrong yesterday.

Coxy is an utter nightmare to play against. He'll niggle and constantly try to wind up the defenders as well as being like a duracell bunny and chasing everything down.
Should be a class above the Highland League.
A few like him in the HL.
Always been a player I would like in my side but in the last couple of years when I have seen him he seemed more intent on winding players up than actually contributing to the team.

There's meant to be indicative votes in by July 7th.
If there's not enough support it won't go to a proper vote and the OF go back to tinkering till we hear about it again in 6 months time.
Cheers.

Excuse my ignorance. How are they going to decide if the reconstruction is to go ahead or not then?

When is the vote for this proposal supposed to take place?

It is, after a playoff. No johnny come lately is going to steal Fort William's bottom spot though.
Lossie might!

He was only a bit part player last season. Hopefully he can get himself a bit fitter and push for a regular start but don’t see that improving us from last season. Fingers crossed I’m wrong.

Think after coming close the last couple of seasons the feeling was maybe it was time for a freshen up. This is all well and good but you need to find players of equal or better quality to replace them. Early days yet and I think your Manager knows what he is doing.

As was previously said by another poster we got by last season by hard work and team work. I think we are short quality wise in a couple of positions. Not being able to train together and the cancelling pre season friendlies and the training camp in Aberfeldy is not going to help in assessing any trialists they were planning looking at!

That’s Elgin suspended training for 10 days due to a Covid outbreak among players who travelled to the Scotland v England game. That along with no news on new recruitment does make you worry a bit about our prospects for the coming season. Early days though.

Depends on how good you are but wouldn’t have thought so.

He’ll cost you a bob or two as he has just signed a 3 year contract and we will need to find a replacement.

The Academy is starting to produce players and we have seen several loaned to HL clubs, which I think is the way to go to continue their Development. Hopefully they will show up well and become first team players for Elgin, if not there can maybe some form of compensation to Elgin in the way of Development fees or just in the fostering of closer relationships with other HL clubs for mutual benefit.
It is unusual for Development teams, at all levels, to produce more than one player in a teams cycle capable of making the step up to the first team, most are there as fillers to form a team to benefit the one capable player. The Academy, I think is there not just to produce players but foster Community relationships.3 -
As you are well aware there is a big step up from Academy to first team. There absolutely has to be a pathway but it’s a pretty cut throat League and an unforgiving support to play in front of, local or not. They must be introduced gradually and only if good enough. I remember when Soapy was introduced it took him about 3/4 years before he established himself . Wilson has played 50 games and had four years training under the Manager, I think it’s plain to see that he isn’t good enough to be a starter at a top end Div 2 team. I think the HL and games is definitely the way forward for him as it is for all the Academy players. As for the other two mentioned I haven’t seen or heard anything from the HL to say Elgin/they have made the wrong decision leaving.
The Academy is definitely the way forward but players must be ready for the first team not just there because they came through the Academy.0 -
Don’t see anything wrong here. Cannot commit to Elgin living in the Central Belt while trying to juggle shifts in the Police, sounds about right. I’d imagine if he has a Saturday shift he would have to swap shifts with another colleague and that’s a lot easier if he is not travelling all day to and from Elgin every second week.
As I said earlier he was a good servant to Elgin but I suspect we saw the best of him.

Do clubs get compensation for paying players wages to get them off work on a Friday to travel to Edinburgh? If they can’t find premises to play games on a Saturday that is not the fault of the other clubs in the League.
I assume Edinburgh have sought and been given permission to play their home games on a Friday?0 -
Getting a good no nonsense Centre Half. He was a good player with Elgin but since the restart he looked as though he was carrying a bit of beef and struggled a bit. Prob a consequence of his new job and not training as much as he could.

Have heard rumours of Ian Vigurs being Cove bound?

When he was at Elgin he was frustrating. Capable of great skill which very few at that level possess but his end product was often lacking. Certainly capable of playing at Airdrie but would need some good players around him.

The Centre Half we signed will be Bronsky’s replacement. I would like to see more quality out wide and another striker wouldn’t go amiss. Early days but I suspect it will be the usual story of decent players not wanting to travel North with offers nearer home.

You said much the same this time last year!

Think he has been offered a contract but he has joined the Police so availability might be a problem.
The club have confirmed Bronsky is leaving. His new job means he cannot commit to the club.

We are limited to 500 with all ticket holders allocated a zone within the ground and only allowed to enter the ground in a specified time period. We average more than 500 per game so don’t see away fans knowingly allowed in for the foreseeable.
