Peterhead. Season 23-24
stranraerfc1870 replied to peternapper's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
Don't know if you're aware but today is one of a few Saturdays that live-streaming is allowed and SFC LIVE will be streaming today's game from 2.45pm It costs £11.00 https://www.eventbrite.com/e/live-stranraer-v-peterhead-registration-797090307567?aff=oddtdtcreator -
I suppose it depends on what colour of glasses you wear but I thought Dolan touches the ball before colliding into Lynch (3.58), the ref misses a push on Ross by Buchanan (4.54), and leading up to the second goal Anderson foul throws (6.56). O'Reilly looks a quality player and good luck for the rest of the season.

I would have liked to have seen Luke Watt on that list but it was not to be. -

Our management team now have a season's experience under their belt so are in a far better position than this time last year. These signings give us some continuity from last season so hopefully we can hit the ground running. -

From Twitter 'In Line with government regulations Stranraer F.C. encourages all supporters to take a lateral flow test before attending tomorrow's game.' Prediction Stranraer 1 - 0 Stirling Albion. -

The last 5 Stair Park game attendances have been 312, 235, 258, 272, and 337 so should be no problem. Look out for Stranraer FC twitter or Facebook page for admission info. We just pay at the gate. -
Stranraer v Kelty Hearts
stranraerfc1870 replied to stranraerfc1870's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
Santa came early for Kelty Hearts with Stranraer gifting the first 2 goals to them. We had a couple of chances to make it one all but couldn't convert. The second Kelty goal sealed the victory. Kelty Hearts are a better team than Queens Park and will win this league with half a dozen matches remaining. The only way to come close to them is to have all your first eleven picks fit and playing with confidence, and them taking the foot of the gas. -
The Blues welcome Kelty Hearts to Stair Park for the first time ever this Saturday. A very even game up at New Central Park in September with an 8th minute Nathan Austin goal giving the home team the 3 points. It looks like it's going to be a good day for a game of fitba' with virtually no wind and partially cloudy sky. Really looking for forward to this game and I'm predicting a score draw! Any Kelty fans looking for a beer before the game should visit the Fitba Bar in North Strand Street. Only a ten minute walk to Stair Park.

Can you suggest a pub nearby to watch the Scotland game before heading to Ainslie Park? -

Aye but it's been moved to a corner of Stair Park, which is home to Stair Park, a bit of an Inception thing going on there. Great defensive display from you guys and your goalie was immense. -
Stranraer 2021-2022 - The Big 151

We had a great team last year but it was decimated during the close season, plus the manager pissed off to Dumbarton after signing a contract a fortnight earlier! A Stranraer manager will always have a small budget to work with and Hamill is up against it. A good performance against Killie gave us hope in the system and young players. The start of the league campaign brought the reality crashing down. Still, it's too early to panic and a few tweaks might make a difference, he says with a rabbit's foot and lucky white heather to hand. -
Stranraer v Annan

We got a great away point at Elgin last week and need to keep the momentum up with a home win tomorrow. I also think he'll go with the same starting eleven and hope we can turn the chances into goals. -
Congratulations to Hibernian and good luck in the quarter finals. We now have a day and a half off before we play Albion Rovers on Tuesday. Cancel that, we're got jobs to go to before the game!

Stranraer -vs- Stenhousemuir
stranraerfc1870 replied to Francesc Fabregas's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
From the gloom of Elgin and Edinburgh Cities to the highs of Stirling Albion and Stenhousemuir, this is why we support our teams, you never know what you are going to get! Stenhousemuir just didn't turn up for the first 20 minutes and unfortunately for them Stranraer played their best 45 minutes of the season in that first half. They must have been playing for a places for this Sunday's game v Hibs! As Faz said, 'A week is a long time in football'. -
That's right, the first time the two teams had ever met was the season 1988-89 Skol Cup game at Easter Road. Given the Hibs team it's no surprise The Blues lost 4-0 with goals from Kane (4), Evans (34), Archibald (73 and 77). We took about 200 up to that game and I remember the pie stall had only ordered 2 dozen pies for the away support! Hibs team was Andy Goram, Gordon Hunter, Alan Sneddon, Neil Orr (George McCluskey), Gordon Rae, Tommy McIntyre, Micky Weir, Steve Archibald, Paul Kane, John Collins, Gareth Evans (Joe Tortolano). Stranraer were Duffy, Lowe, Hay, Watt, Rogers, McCutcheon, McQueen, McNiven, Arthur (Lloyd), Frye, Henderson.

Stranraer 2021-2022 - The Big 151

John Boyd's book 'The Stranraer Football Club Centenary 1870-1970' is a very handy reference source. There were a lot of games getting scratched in those days as the teams couldn't field enough players due to work, etc. We'll never know why, but can only surmise the teams of the town got together to have a strong first team squad to play games outside the local area, and a junior team to play in the summer league. There must have been either a massive fall out or someone was splashing the cash for almost all the players to go to Dalrymple Harriers, however that team must have been unsustainable as no record of them exists after the one season. Throughout the decades local teams come and go but I've never heard of Stranraer Corinthians. -

In 1906 the formation of another senior club in the town, Dalrymple Harriers, almost brought about the end of Stranraer F.C. when the Stranraer players defected en masse to the new club and the Blues entered a period of inactivity. However, the Harriers lasted barely a season and the old club was re-established under the new title as Stranraer United although the suffix was soon dropped.
