He has been contracted to Dundee United who haven’t looked to use him, this summer is his first chance to achieve that really.

IMO, every team in this league next season would be interested in signing him if they could.

Outside Fotheringham, he is now the top scoring midfielder in the league btw.

He was down south also last season and had there been interest IUnited would have moved him on by now. I agree that some teams in the league will be keen on signing him. Others who play a certain system and allow less of a free role won't. If he is going to be one of our top earners then happy if signs providing they build a team around him. If Brown wants a certain work rate and more of an overall game from the players then money better spent elsewhere

Anyone who doesn't think Chalmers is good enough for Ayr is absolutely bonkers.

He'll not beat his man every time, he'll not track back much and he's as one footed as it gets.

When he gets the ball though he gets you off your seat and you expect something to happen. He"s a terrific championship player and will be the difference next season in a team with better balance and identity than the shit show we've had this season.

If he goes to Airdrie/Raith/Partick we'll wish we'd kept him.

It's not quite as simple as that. Why has a player with attacking technical ability beyond this league not found a home and be among the first names on the team sheet?

I suppose the one thing going for Sanders is that he is relatively young for a centre half - he has only just turned 25 and has not played a lot of football so there should be lots of development in him.

There is definitely something there - he can look good on the ball and be dominant. We have just seen too much of the other side of him.

If he were 21/22 i would agree with you and more inclined to take a punt. Would be interested to see how he fared in the league below and whether it's the level causing the moments of madness. We really need to sign a steady defender or two, doesn't even need to be the most capable but just someone who is steady away. Literally every defender we have is erratic and it looks like many of them will be kept on

Considering the way energy prices alone have gone up it wouldn’t be a surprise if there is an increase in tickets and the new stand will perhaps have a premium attached.

If we haven’t already reached it yet there is a point where affordability will become the main reason for many choosing how they attend. Marquee signings etc will still count but the per person match day spend model might not work at championship level

  5. A win and a draw from the next two games will see us safe. Not quite a formality as Morton are one of the teams we haven't played well against. We seem to have tightened up so hopefully can avoid being pushed about and leaking silly goals. Whilst four points will be enough it may take a few weeks of teams throat cutting until safety is confirmed.

Raith have shown that you only need to be slightly less howling than the rest of the teams in the league to be have a chance of promotion.

Few decent signings and we can be up there next year.

Post covid and since cash in the game tightened further this league has played out the same most seasons. A lack of depth and quality has meant very few outstanding sides and most teams able to beat one another. Don't see things changing too much next season and another open league. It will only take a few decent signings to push us up a good few places.

Brown made a comment about Tomlinson saying he has a lot of work to do on the defensive side of his game if he is to play right back. Personally I thought he looked OK against Airdrie playing further up the pitch but as the first half went on he started to fade out the game. I don’t see the merit in making him a right back so early in his career when he could be a perfectly decent winger.

He is still fairly young and got time to develop. They obviously see something there which is good and can hopefully turn this into eventual first team appearances. Alongside this Bryden and McKenzie have also been playing unusual roles whilst Bryden perhaps should have went on on loan earlier. Appreciate we have just had to get by this season but i do hope they have a proper pathway to get young players developed and not just covering problem positions

I suppose another frustration with McAllister signing on is it puts a bit of a stop gap on Watret for next season unless we’re running with those pair as our number one and two in that position.

I think the best way I can describe him is frustrating. He should’ve been having a far greater impact on games this season and he had a wee purple patch but outside that I think he’s been underwhelming. Definitely not as good as he was last season although maybe that’s the change of position.

There’s been a lot of games I’ve seen where the full back gets the better of him in the first five minutes and that’s him done. I don’t think the pitch at Somerset helps. It’s no coincidence that his best games this season have come away from home on a wider pitch where he can get on the outside and away quicker.

I think if he gets fit then he needs to play as he obviously still has more output than Bryden but I think if the best you’re hoping for with a wide player is one good game in five then you can get a cheaper alternative. The teams that win this league very rarely have outstanding options out wide. It’s in their defence, central midfield and up front that makes the difference. If he was willing to take a big cut from his rumoured wage at Dundee United then fair enough but I can see teams being willing to pay more and I don’t think we should get drawn into that.

We signed a right back in the summer. He was horrible but we did sign one. And would’ve signed a left back if it wasn’t for injuries elsewhere.

I think also people need to look at the summer past and remember that Bullen deciding to f**k off for a fortnight probably killed us. He is obviously entitled to a holiday like everyone and I’m not proposing we lock Brown in a room until all the signings are done but those first couple of weeks after the season ends are crucial and the club were just absolutely no where in that time.

It does raise questions around the pathway for Watret. By next season i would like to see him as cover for right back and getting involved quite often in games. Have they also not been trying to shoehorn Tomlinson into this position also? Unless Watret is away down south in the summer or McAllister is indeed our first choice right back

I think he is and we don’t actually have any idea what it would take to sign him  - signing actual football players helps sell season tickets, there is potential there for resale value and if he maintains his first half of the season form for longer he is one of the best players in the league.

If we don’t sign him, we certainly won’t sign anyone any better.

It perhaps depends on the system and style we will play. If it's one based around work ethic and reliant on everyone doing certain tasks then he might not fit in as well. On the other hand if the creative players are given more of a free run and play built around them then he may do well

They aren't that underrepresented though. According to the 2011 census black people made up 0.13% of the population and the majority of those were first generation immigrants. How many folk who move to a country become that politically involved? Things will change in that respect over time (they are changing now) but he ignores that entirely and jumps immediately to "structural racism".

It's a pretty wild speech but it's Humza all over. He loves playing the role of victim (see "I've been fighting for my rights my  whole life" when talking about someone else's struggle or the time he fell over his knee-scooter and dug Glenn Campbell for making fun of someone with a disability when he posted the video) and this is just that. I have no problem taking a look at Scotland's racism, and I wouldn't claim that Scotland doesn't have any sense of structural racism, but everything he talked about here can be explained by other factors. He also identifies a problem that, as a poster pointed out earlier, might not actually be a problem but an accurate reflection of our demographics.

Navigating those daily struggles in a good fee paying school make him the perfect candidate to be lecturing Scotland on disadvantage.

  11. Good to see this entering the junk bin on day2 by letting Rowling off the hook. Someone with the resources and public profile will see this laughed out of court and well they know it. The category of economically disadvantaged white 18-30 male has been flagged by the polis as the person most likely to fall foul of the new rules. When the first patsy gets served hopefully Rowling steps in and provides some backing to help fight this. How long before this goes the way of the football hate bill or the sweetie bottle scheme?

  12. We are not alone in being secretive when it comes to discussing injuries. Fans of various clubs in this league have said the same about this issue and it's only something i've noticed in recent years. Perhaps the bigger financial crisis means clubs don't have the quality of depth of squad as before. When you look at some of the shite we signed on extended deals it may be this was just a way of balancing the books. Knowing certain players are missing might help the opposition more as the back up options are limited

Aye, some of the so called bigger teams have struggled but ultimately got there, the different is that I doubt Livi will be able to afford a Louis Moult in the summer or be able to bring in a player like Lafferty in the January window like Killie did, money wise it's going to be a lot more level playing field with a lot of teams looking at the same player pool.

There seems to be some off field issues hampering Livi that may have been the root cause of this seaspn and may not get resolved for next season. There was mention of a court case starting in a few weeks that will reveal more. I won't be writing Martindale off until i hear more and he could well still be capable of building a decent team for this level

First season in a long time where there probably isn't going to be a credible SPL dominant team in the Championship so here's hoping there's a concerted effort for the first proper push in nearly 25 years! As a life long Ayr fan, I have the fear we'll f**k some aspect of this up Royally but here's hoping I'm proved wrong!

When was the last time there was a credible SPL dominant team in the league?

What has been learned from the recruitment strategy is nothing. The usual thing has played out: a rookie manager who spent lots of time in the English lower leagues fucked things up by believing that English lower league jobbers would automatically be better than Scottish Championship players, and then he was replaced by a rookie manager who spent lots of time in the Scottish Premiership, who believes that any random loanees  retrieved from the top flight will automatically be better than Scottish Championship players.

It is correct that the _owner_ has focussed his attention on the new stand, and that will change once it's finished. Given that right now he's likely to be inaugurating it with a matchday 1 home league defeat to Kelty Hearts, that doesn't really bode well for anyone on the current coaching staff.

Stanger on left wing, McGinty in nets.

You are correct but the main time of reflection should come at the end of season. Will give them the benefit of the doubt that they can evolve next season

"will have taken up a lot of internal focus and resources." Why do you believe this to be the case? We're paying a company to build something and OK that will use some resources but not much, plus we have a million more backroom staff/managers than b4.... just because the same man owns both businesses shouldn't matter.

If you pay a builder to build you an extension at home, do you also have to stop working and become a site manager!? No ye don't.

Will the builder be taking on the launch and running of the new hospitality and business centre when it opens?  Building costs are fluctuating wildly and we are unable to build the full spec currently so i'd imagine some cash has been used or held back that might find their way to the on field stuff. To run the new facility successfully a lot of planning and preparation required in advance of a proper launch. Pricing , marketing , staff , certification , layout to name a few. Much of this will need completed in advance of the season ending so this is ready to roll for the next one. This will fall under Mathies remit so i'd imagine he's spent a bit of time on this

Sounds like we're all shitting ourselves about next season already. Grim.

Couldn't be less excited about it. I think any hopes of us suddenly signing decent players and the tinpot attitude of the board changing is desperately optimistic.

Providing the stand gets completed and opened then next season should be different. It's a big project for a club our size and will have taken up a lot of internal focus and resources. Hopefully a lot has been learned from the recruitment strategy and a change in direction occurs

  18. There seems to be agreement we just need to get over the line this season, but not sure the realisation is there around how horrific some games will be doing this. Although near us in the league QP have tightened up since their managerial change so didn't really expect much from this one.

Like Bullen before Brown seems to be the focal point of all gripes despite us running with a collegiate approach. It's also worth remembering alongside Brown we have Whittaker who should have built a wealth of knowledge at a high level across many different leagues. Not sure who does what and whilst some of the decisions look daft i would like to think that between the pair of them someone knows their stuff.

This league seems to be a weekly existence for form or results and the Airdrie game is one we should do better in. We should also be better prepared for Morton unlike before as less likely to be kicked around now The top 3 have been all over the shop with form so no reason points won't be gained there

Tonight shows that Shankland isn’t of the level we need either. Very good top flight forward in Scotland but he’s not what we need at this level. FWIW I think we’re a forward away from being a good team but that forward needs to be on the same level as Gilmour or Robertson. There’s no one near that right now.

Agree with this. A few times tonight when the ball broke the defender was on their toes and yards ahead by the time Shankland realised to make a challenge. Another off topic one i noticed was that McCall has a good chance of getting Clyde safe. It wasn't long ago they looked completely sunk
