Meant in respect more of the type of person he is, obviously has high standards (which isn't a bad thing) and a lot of drive and commitment. Just not sure how well that would transfer to Championship level players and how they would react to that.

He was a massive Rangers fan and then signed for Celtic. His standards can't be that high

I think the ones with most to complain about here are the ones who lost loved ones and couldn't even see them buried properly not those wondering how the Govt decided that they had to wait an extra two weeks for a pint !

Agreed the pint drinkers got off lightly. Its the care home deaths , delayers hospital treatment , businesses that couldn't trade and workers who couldn't earn that have the most to complain about. A lot of this a result of a vain attempt to make themselves look different from England

Your point was Mathie has an iron fist and was firm on not allowing the coach bringing their own staff in. Load of bollocks

If the manager doesnt want these guys about, they wont be about

How many clubs at our level have the range of full time positions helping in the background. Many places will have a manager , assistant  and some part time/occasional staff who will split the duties. This will include part of Mathies job and cover all of the others too. Bearing in mind Ayr currently have this set up is an assistant really required? Would candidates from this level be able to pitch up with a working team where they could replace our current employees?

It would seem expensive and unlikely someone could just rock up and completely change our structure. It was initially built to provide more stability and doubt they could just revert to a manager and assistant. Perhaps after working with them for a bit the new person could move some on if they thought they weren't very good. Paying everyone off would also be an expensive exercise. Might be wrong but i don'r seem to remember wholesale changes at other clubs running this way when someone leaves.

I can't see this set up changing until there is another mess or two made and Mathies decision making is questioned.  So we will be looking for a certain type and it won't be someone coming with an entourage

    Thanks for that.

    I don't think that's too bad then.

I think that is workable then even for a more experienced manager rather than head coach.

If a manager/coach asks for a right back say is it not a reasonable request that we can get one from Scotland? The style of play from the lower english leagues is totally different from up here. How does the split in our squad of local players to unknown signings moving away from home compare to other league sides. Cant think of many teams in our league with this strategy and it's risky as many don't settle.

It's fine to say they get the final nod but from the outside looking in it's a far cry from the type of signings they are probably used to making. Some managers will already have views on where the best places to target and view this as not really being their own team. FWIW i think scottish football has it's own unique style and teams do better with local players rather than trying to unearth a nugget from elsewhere

You would have thought that considering the measures were oh so apolitical that they'd be keen to show their workings.

Fair play to the SNP supporters/ex supporters on here for calling out this obvious disgraceful level of negligence.

Surely the scientific/healthcare community has an obligation to share data for the greater good. Keeping Clarkston open whilst closing Glasgow and chopping pieces off doors should become the subject of case studies that save lives elsewhere

Both have been out of work for a while and need to get back in quickly. Ayr are 9th with a full time squad and 18 games left to turn things around. If any potential manager doesn't think things can be salvaged, they are a shitebag and we don't want them anyway.

With the north stand opening in the summer it will hopefully bring an increased player budget. Should be a no brainer for a lot of candidates looking to show success to get their next  job

Thought it was interesting in the announcement of McCall at Clyde there’s no mention of the length of or any contract…..

The stadium plan didn't also go through thanks to some politics from the locals. Would imagine this was a draw for him going there as they had decent plans. Not sure where they are up to now

I guess it would be good to know if they are looking for a “Head Coach” again or a manager…

Absolutely no reason why he can't mention top level stuff like that. He can even keep in vague by mentioning different options and avoid much sticking if the plans don't work out. Would expect something out later tonight which may lessen the awkward questions should people spot management tomorrow

I get that to some extent, but a vague timeline would be fine. Plus the closer we get to the end of January panic will set in around the window with the state of the side. Saying what I have before - there is probably a good chance there’ll be an update tomorrow given media teams etc will be at Somerset.

The issue a new manager has is that they will be going into a pretty horrible run straight away. If they come in after QP, you could easily be looking at four games without a win straight away.

Finding the right person for the next few years should be the dominant concern and the transfer window or run of games not a factor. If the flexibility of our structure is correct then this will narrow the field and perhaps take longer to find the right person

    What does this even mean?

What are people expecting them to say right now that would satisfy everyone? If it had been weeks then yes you’d expect some sort of update but it’s been 4 days. Clubs don’t tend to keep supporters updated with every step of appointing a a manager. Putting loads of info in the public domain while the process is still ongoing generally isn’t a good idea.

It’s also not their responsibility to release a denial statement in response to some rumours floating about on Pie and Bovril. We’re not Rangers.

I’ve said it already but I don’t understand the clamour for statements/updates every 5 minutes that goes on in this thread sometimes.

I am looking for Mathie to front up and at least broach the situation. Could easily do a ten minute video with Calum fawning for half of it. Doesn't need to go into specifics around timelines and applicants but some sort of communication would buy time for a bit

This is just absolute nonsense. McCall might not have been touring every assisted living facility in the country but he is famous for getting involved in everything possible regarding running a club. As already mentioned, one very specific example of this in managing to hunt the media-starved clown that is currently serving as stadium announcer.

When he was at Partick my mate called the ticket office one day to find out where his Ayr ticket had gone and it was McCall that answered it. He now has a signed envelope.

The sign of a good manager is hiring capable or better people for certain tasks and letting them crack on with it. Ultimately the results land with you but no need to interfere if things are running well. Bullen was stuck up here away from family and friends so perhaps doing everything filled his time up.  Other managers may have a different take on how much they complete

If it’s true and Courts and Bowyer have turned us down then we may have to conclude that like the other nine teams in the league we are going to have to probably appoint either a rookie or a recent failure, simple as that . People on here will be unhappy . Nothing new there .

While McCall is very tempting let’s not forget his two best seasons with us were probably championed by the signing of LS . Who remarkably nobody on here has claimed was a fluke signing in the same way Dipo was .

Thistle gambled on a rookie in Doolan , Rover took a chance on a guy in Murray that failed to get Airdrie up via the play offs . Both proved good choices . It’s pretty much in the lap of the Gods .

Thistle had little choice if there financial situation was to be believed and think Doolan is doing ok rather than good. A premierready team or however it was described should hopefully be looking for something a bit different.  Would be interesting to know why two decent options weren't interested in joining us if the future growth plans are to be believed

  13. Most managers will want to sign their own players due to the high sacking odds. The club seem to want a percentage of players coming from a certain background in the hope they can realise a transfer fee. Might be harder to tempt a manager with this approach and more likely looking for a coach. The answer is to bin Glendinning and bring McCall in and do the transfers alongside running the team. Get all the players on longer term contacts so we can bank the cash from any that do well. We can then compare and contrast the profits with the existing structure

When Mhairi Black said recently she felt some of her colleagues had become too comfortable in Westminster, did you interpret that as her meaning they'd become less motivated by independence?

She probably meant them not realising they are about to lose their seats at the next election. Should be following her example and heading back north for a place at the Holyrood trough.

For all that it felt inevitable the timing was a bit of a surprise to me as well. If they were so reluctant to sack him you’d think a draw would have felt like justification to them to give him another week.

I get the argument about the transfer windows but again if they were as reluctant as they claimed then it’s not the kind of thing you jump into just because there’s a transfer window.

    Maybe they just shat themselves.

I think they probably did just shit themselves. Can't see how they will get the right person quickly either and they then have the time assuming they are actively involved in the transfer window. We need someone primarily to save our league status but then in the summer it may be a different need if hospitality funds a bigger budget to start going places. Ideally you want someone to come in and develop with the club but not easy to find them.

On saying that a lot  of the pre transfer work might have been done already in the background by Glendinning and they are actively targeting players. It wouldn't take a genius to work out the areas where we have large gaps that need filling. How many players also could you say were truly Lee Bullen selections. The guy Mackie he knew from Wednesday but the others seem to have came from the recruitment directive.

I would be very interested to know how the process played out and the criteria that led to his sacking, apart from the obvious, given the platitudes that have been laid out since.

For how much he was admired it was a bit baffling they chose to do it after a draw and with Kelty this week.

IA few weeks ago there were quite a few reams below us and a couple of them looked in real trouble. Even with our dreadful form there were enough in the mix to think we could still shit fest along and be safe. Had QP not won and put us right into the deep stuff i doubt it would have happened like this. That's what happens when it comes on top and other weeks a draw would have saved him although there can be no complaints as he had enough chance to save his job this season

We have made an offer to Andy Halliday… as a player I should add.

Motherwell, Livi and Accies also interested.

In saying that, the last 24 hours may have put a stopper on this.

I wonder if there is some sort of off field development role packaged with any offer. If we can't beat some of the teams in our own league then can't see how this one lands

Burley’s biggest issues were, the club was skint after MacLeod spent a fortune on duds and the fact he didn’t have the same personality as MacLeod, he sounded almost apologetic at times. A bit like Kerr.

He also wasn’t helped by Stainrod coming in and slagging everything about him in a sheer lack of class.

Burley always had something about him that Bullen doesn’t.

Like the ability to step up and play at right back when needed

As much as they are right and I agree with the point, it’s clearly been inserted at the end to garner some sort of sympathy and to discourage any future negative comments towards the regime.

It’s not some anonymous source that’s been sending bullets through the letterbox. At its worst, it’s folk on social media, with names and pictures on show, who they could quite easily dish out a ban to if it went too far.

The headline on the sun website is around someone at a club being bullied rather than someone making an arse of it and getting grief

No mention of who’s taking it interim.

Could mean the next manager is imminent. Or it could just be the usual telling us nothing.

I guess running with this structure means the rest of the team can step up and keep things going for a bit. Unlike when a manager and team leave there is a void to be filled. Would still expect some sort of formal interim news to emerge soon about this probably involving a few existing staff

  21. Really don't see how McCall or another experienced manager fits into our collegiate set up currently unless they get a free run until the end of the season.  Having other input might help McCall in stopping him building a small squad that is threadbare in the winter due to injuries. His strength was also wheeling and dealing with his pals and turning players form around. This wouldn't happen in our current set up with Glendinning finding the right 'type' of player. Whilst Bullen ultimately had a say i'm really not sure they were always his picks and would have to play the game at times.

Really not sure how we fill this relatively quickly unless McGeady and one of his pals perhaps take on an interim role. Wouldn't be against seeing what the Airdrie manager could do with a bit more cash. He's still new enough to fit inside Mathies model although perhaps we should be looking for someone that will challenge the current thinking
