  1. We’re somehow even worse this half!!! How many times did Considine give the ball to a st Mirren player in the build up to the goal?! This is every bit as inept as anything we saw from a Davidson or Maclean team. It’s nothing football. No attacking, no heart, no desire, no intensity. Just put your boots on, run about for a bit and see what happens.
  2. A textbook St Johnstone performance. Fill the team with defenders, be clueless in how to build any kind of meaningful attack, routinely fail to play a simple 10 yard pass. A nothing game where again the manager will think it’s all going to plan because we’re level. And then, predictably, the opposition score. And it’s over. The inability to cross a ball; Smith and Gallacher showing under 14’s technical crossing ability, deciding to play a short corner on the stroke of half time, Robinson again turning his back as he half heartedly attempts to block a shot. Cowards. Incompetent. Hopeless. That would be my summary of our first half performance. Drey Wright is fairly mild mannered but you can tell what he thinks of the way we approach matches just now.
  3. That new rule change brought in against us in the summer where every defender in the squad has to play is becoming a real pain in the ass. Mitov Smith Gordon Consi Robinson Gallacher Smith Phillips Carey Sidibeh Clark
  4. On the relegation thread, our semi final victory over hearts in 1998 came up. Got me thinking about the best Saints teams of all time. I didn’t see Ormond’s team, but they would obviously be up there. And there are probably Saints teams from further back that should be in the conversation. But which Saints teams would you include, and rank them in order: Tommy Wrights 2014 Cup winners. Finished sixth that season, LC semi-finalists. Went on a run of 5 or 6(?) successive European campaigns. Willie Ormond’s late 60’s-early 70’s team. Finished 3rd in top division the season after being LC finalists. First Saints team to play in Europe and smelled the mighty Hamburgers of Germany. The Double winners. Callum Davidson’s young guns of 2020-21. Sandy Clark’s 1998 team. Finished 3rd in the league, LC finalists and SC semi-finalists. Qualified for Europe and drew with the mighty Monaco. Totten’s McDiarmid musketeers. Probably more debatable, but won the old first division at a canter then for a few months of the following season went toe to toe with Scottish footballs big guns of the time:- A run of matches that went: Aberdeen (H)5-0, Celtic (A)0-0, Hearts (A) 3-2, Rangers (H) 0-0, Dundee United (A) 2-1. SC semi-finalists. For about a year (1990 ish) this team was brilliant. Still the most exciting Saints team I think I’ve seen.
  5. 4-0? .. Wasn’t that Nathan Lowndes’ debut? Wouldn’t think there’s many clubs outwith the OF that have beaten both hearts and Hibs 3-0 in league cup semi-finals.
  6. Hearts were simply battered by a far superior team in that semi-final. Saints finished league cup runners up (to financially doped rangers) and Scottish cup semi finalists (also knocked out by rangers) and finished 3rd in the premier league that season. Enjoy..
  7. To be honest that’s everyone’s fear as well. Why would they? But in fairness to the Brown’s, they’re well aware of the possibility of buyers with the wrong intention coming in and asset stripping the land round about the ground etc, so we have to trust them. Whoever it eventually is, it’s hard to imagine things are going to improve on what we’ve had for most of the past 40 years. End of a massive era in the club’s history when it happens.
  8. Why do we bother with long throws? It’s just one of those routines we do as everyone jogs into position half-heartedly, safe in the knowledge that they’ll be chasing back in a minute or two when the opposition clears the ball. It’s not just that we don’t score off them, we don’t even win the flick on or get anywhere near it to win a flick on. It’s invariably a free header for a defender to clear. It’s the worst attempt at a set piece I’ve seen.. Possibly excluding our kick offs!
  9. First goal the winner. Unless it’s us. If you could just somehow give us the 3 points and our next two opponents could do the same so we can guarantee safety and condemn this hellish facade masquerading as entertainment in the bin. It’s like paying to watch a movie you think is shite every week. Just because you’ve always done it. This is going to sound exaggerated, but I genuinely think st Mirren could play with their oldest fan in goal and they’d still get something out of the game.
  10. McCoist and Brogan for St Johnstone. 1980-81 McCoist finished top scorer in the old first division as Saints missed out on promotion by goal difference. The premier match was postponed one week so the sportscene cameras came to Perth instead on a day where McCoist scored 4 and all but sealed a move to Sunderland for £400,000. John Brogan is a legendary goal scorer for Saints, and is involved in most of McCoist’s goals here: https://m.youtube.com/shorts/-H4tmpq3AFo
  11. Yes I found Carey frustrating yesterday. Whilst he had some moments of good play, it felt like a performance where he knew the cameras were there and he tried to do things to make himself look good rather than benefit the team. For our most creative player, he really doesn’t create that much.
  12. I was staring at it today and went into a psychotic daydream about sitting in the main stand one week, and kicking it over mid-match before jumping repeatedly on the screen. Or just simply pulling the cable out, which would probably incur a lesser fine. Either way it’s what we need to raise awareness that this isn’t what most people want in our game. I’ll happily chip in for someone’s fine.
  13. What about the last game you enjoyed that you were at?!! I’m struggling to think..
  14. Kind of agree with a couple of posters that said we weren’t too bad today. I thought we were fairly competitive up until 2-0. Having seen games against either of the OF where we’ve just sat back and watched them play it’s quite refreshing to watch us prepared to kick lumps out of them. And try to pass the ball when we had it. We looked to have opportunities to do something going forwards at times, but as usual poor decision making and lack of quality restricted us. Lets not kid ourselves, that is a very average rangers team and having zero shots at goal against them is poor. We need a quick improvement, desperately need to find a way of creating chances and getting wins. We haven’t scored more than once in a game since we beat killie 2-1 then Levein’s first game the 2-2 with Motherwell in the same week, back in early November. Only other time we’ve managed was the late comeback 2-2 with Dundee. As we can’t keep clean sheets either, it really does feel like picking up draws and hoping county and Livi stay shite are our only hopes of staying up.
  15. Connor Smith looks to be another nonentity of a footballer. Not necessarily shocking, just as in what does he actually bring? Doesnt beat players, isn’t especially quick, doesn’t win the ball back a lot, haven’t seen much crossing or good passing from him. Just another body to fill a jersey. Probably not fair to assess him after a match v rangers, but I had to sit through it so I’m going to. He’s not shown much on any other occasion I’ve seen him so far either unfortunately. Max taking his passing backwards at all costs to a new level today with that masterpiece.
  16. You should go on the premiership prediction thread from the start of the season mate, you’ll have a whale of a time.
  17. We were doing okay and up for a scrap but that’s a great hit out of nowhere for the goal. Conor Smith is frustrating the life out of me. If he comes out second half still in his baffies then I’ll lose the heed, he’s slipping everywhere. The ploughed field for a park is probably helping us.
  18. Every fucking time. Playing one of the OF when they’re going well and we’re struggling and you dread it all week. Common sense tells you we’ll get pumped. Then you walk to the ground bathed in beautiful Perthshire sunshine and you feel hope. I look at our line up and think that looks not bad… 2-1 Saints.
  19. Livingston suddenly remembering how to win puts a wee bit more pressure on us than what it felt like 12 hours previous. You go into this thinking we’ve got real pace, if we can keep it tight we can hurt them on the break, but in reality it rarely works out that way, as good players can generally snuff out hopeful balls over the top and not give you a sniff. I imagine we’ll be 5-4-1 with our lone striker getting to watch the rangers defenders go through their heading practice all game, but hope I’m wrong. Phillips being back in would be a big boost, so we might get hold of the ball in midfield now and then.
