I still think the atmosphere even at Hampden would be better with anything to actually cheer about. The game last season against Accies when we won 4-0, and even the Thistle match at the end of October (even though we chucked it away) were decent examples of that. A massive factor is just that the product on the park is brutal at the moment.

There is unfortunately lots of evidence that you don't need to actually play all that well to beat us comfortably. Our squad is comprised primarily of players who although talented, are not ready for this level of football (at the very least without a few more experienced heads around them for support). I can't see anything other than a comfortable home victory. Our record against Morton is dreadful, and unless Nuijten/O'Ware/whoever is actually taking the team happens to be the world's greatest motivational speaker then our powderpuff defence will be easy pickings for them. Genuinely don't remember the last time I was looking forward to a game of football less than this.

He's getting paid $2m per year, with a total of $680m deferred until the contract ends. That's absolutely ridiculous and shouldn't be allowed.

I'm not disagreeing with any of this, I just truly do not believe it's going to factor into anyone making a decision on whether to apply for or accept the job if they believe they can work with the squad and decision-makers at the club, and are promised resources.

I don't think any potential manager is going to even remotely care about Lesser Hampden when we're not actually playing there (if the offer is right), to be honest.

Brown strikes me as the Owen Coyle man manager type, he'd probably get the players on board. With an assistant who's a bit more tactically astute I think he could do well.

I fully agree with the rest of your post, but I also think despite the timing if it all there's a third more likely option than either of these. Beuker got offered a job he couldn't turn down, Spiers is 60 years old and simply decided to step down, and Veldman was shown the door because he hadn't won a league game in almost 4 months. I don't think there's necessarily some master plan to fix all of the club's issues nor do I suspect anything malicious is going on.

I estimate there's about a 0% chance this happens. 2 of our last 3 managers have been rookies given their first job, and both were punted after about 6 months. Can't see us going down that route again.

Scott Burns in The Daily Record is linking us with Scott Brown and Gary Bowyer. Would much rather either of them than Mackay. Edited to add that he mentions Charlie Mulgrew too, but I can't see us making the mistake of giving someone their first job again after neither Ellis nor Veldman worked out.

There's no Dutch connection anymore now that Beuker has left for Ajax, I'll be amazed if it isn't a name we all already know.

As much as I absolutely love Ketts, I don't think he's the man to get a tune out of this group of players.

Bobby Bonilla springs to mind. The Orioles are still paying him half a million per year until 2028 even though he retired over 20 years ago, and left Baltimore in 1996!

I love Shohei but that is wild. They're going to be paying a 39 year old DH $70m.

I've mentioned his name previously on this thread, but I still think Tam Courts would be a decent appointment assuming he's given a bit of backing in January. The issues aren't purely due to the manager, the squad is simply not good enough either.

Rumours beginning to circulate that Baltimore native David Rubenstein, worth twice what the current ownership is, has begun discussions to buy the team and it could be complete in the first half of 2024. This would be a bigger win for the organisation than any single trade or free agent signing. An owner willing to spend money, along with all of this young talent, is a recipe for serious success.

By the time Saturday comes it'll be 113 days since we last won a league game (the only victory in any competition in that time was against Bala Town). That's enough to knock the hope out of anybody.

Yet again, I feel the need to point out that Malky Mackay is simply not a good manager even beyond his controversial behaviour and opinions. His record at Ross County, where he was well backed, was very poor. I fear that we're destined to be linked with him forever due to the family connection. No thank you.
