  1. I understand that but there aren’t going to be any playoffs. So what would be your solution to that? Would I be right in saying that the other lowland league clubs didn’t get a vote in awarding Kelty the title?
  2. It’s not one team though is it? There are no playoffs in any of the leagues.
  3. I understand the frustration felt by Kelty and Brora here but as pointed out above it is completely impractical to have playoffs right before the start of the season. It’s unfair on all the clubs involved. And as Big Al points out there is no prospect of playoffs being able to be staged any time soon. I have no clue when we will be able to return to football with crowds but there won’t be any football played at our level behind closed doors. I have almost resigned myself to the fact that we won’t get to football before the end of 2020 and we might not even get a 20/21 season at all. League reconstruction was always a long shot as well. I understand what the rules say about the pyramid playoff but is there anything in the rules that says we can reconstruct the leagues at the end of a season to promote a whole load of teams who otherwise wouldn’t have been promoted? So is what we’ve arrived at fair? No. Is it the least unfair option? You could argue it is. The leagues could have been made null and void. That would have suited us fine but would that have been any fairer? I don’t think it would have been. Would there have been the same focus on Brechin if our chairman wasn’t on the SPFL board? I don’t know but the idea that Ken Ferguson is some sort of puppet master controlling Scottish football is pretty laughable.
  4. And there are people out there who think it is Peter Lawwell who runs Scottish football....
  5. It was really damning that the oldest player in the squad (McManus) looked by some distance the fittest. People looked at our squad and their first impression was that they weren’t fit. Say this shutdown had only been for four or five weeks and we were back playing this weekend, can you imagine what sort of state they would have been in. The best football we played all season was probably around Christmas when we beat Stirling and Cowdenbeath and were unlucky against Albion Rovers. We seemed to have found a way of playing which the manager seemed happy with but in January after making a few signings he completely changed that. We were on run of 10 games or so without winning and the formation and personnel were changed every week, and nothing seemed to work. There just didn’t seem to be any clear thinking. I have no idea which players we should keep really, there aren’t many who had anything like a good season. But again starting from scratch like we did last summer is not a good idea either.
  6. We maybe improved a wee bit under Wilson but let’s face it that would not have been hard. We were still nowhere nearly good enough. I’m not sure I buy that we were more attacking either there were loads of games where we created virtually nothing. Wilson was a gamble which hasn’t paid off so far anyway. If we are lucky enough to be watching football in August and we get anything like a fulll season I haven’t seen anything from Wilson which suggests we won’t be in the same spot this time next year. I hope I’m wrong but I just can’t see it. I would have winning over so called entertaining football any day. There is nothing entertaining about watching your team get humped every week.
  7. Hamilton, Queen of the South and Forfar aren’t getting relegated either. Brechin are in a playoff position. We’ve dodged a bullet for sure but technically we are in the same position as those clubs. It’s amazing the amount of people who don’t seem to get this.
  8. In 1953-54 we won the C division and we beat Celtic A to clinch the title. The winning goal scored by Albert Juluissen. Now I am not that old but I always remember this was in the match programme every week when I was a youngster. They had a small history of the club on the opening pages. I don’t have any old programmes now but if anybody has these from the early 80s I am sure you will see it there.
  9. Footballers are in pretty close contact with each other though. You might well be grappling with somebody in the bog roll aisle in the coming days but in general it’s not like defending a corner is it?
  10. It was good to see so many fans there today. No one is giving up yet.
  11. It's not impossible though that's the point I'm trying to make. Good players will always have choices.
  12. When I was 25 if someone had offered me a few quid to play football and said there will be a few hours travelling for away games I would have bitten their hand off. It sounds great to me. If you give them the chance of possibly winning the league under a decent manager I think plenty of players would want to come. There is a depressingly defeatist attitude here and we haven't even been relegated yet.
  13. Why would the club cease to exist? There are some really small clubs in the Highland League who seem to be able to exist just fine.
  14. They would never sack him now. We all know that. They will do the usual and do nothing until it is too late like they have done with the last two hopeless cases of managers.
  15. I agree. Mark Wilson has been at the club for months and we haven’t improved. You would think that the basics of taking over a team in our position would be getting them to stop conceding so many soft goals. He has totally failed in that. And Stevie Campbell has been the common denominator in the last three years.
  16. That was a fluke. The decline had set in before then really. I honestly believe we would have been in this position a year ago if we hadn’t won that playoff.
  17. I've certainly not given up hope. I would be a lot more worried if we weren't creating chances and scoring goals. But we have good players up front and I really think that end of the pitch isn't a problem. Obviously we are conceding a lot of soft goals though but if we can tighten up a bit at the back we would look not too bad. Hopefully we can get in a couple of more defensive minded players this week to help with that and ideally guys with a bit of experience.
  18. I’m not sure how it will work exactly but the money is ring fenced for the playing budget. Regarding Mick Dunlop I get he is not that glamorous a signing but we are a team that has leaked a lot of goals and maybe an experienced defender is exactly one of the things that we need. Teams are not just going to let go guys who are playing regularly either. Our expectations of what players are going to be brought in need to be realistic.
  19. Yesterday’s performance gives me real hope, the best I have seen in a long time. Not often in recent times we have really dominated a game and been such worthy winners.
  20. For the life of me I can’t understand why the Angus clubs didn’t try everything they had to make sure that they wouldn’t go into the Highland League if they got relegated. The Lowland League would be a much more sensible option. Maybe they did but I can’t remember anything being said about it at the time. But like many others at the time I didn’t pay much attention to it as we were a long way from being at the bottom of League Two. Or so I thought.
  21. Are you suggesting that someone is ready to come in with a cash investment in the short term? In the past I have been wary of the club getting away from our current model of the club being owned by the members, but maybe the time has come for a change. Perhaps we will not be able to thrive as a club without changing to a club owned by shareholders. I think we could survive in the Highland League if the worst came to it but I'm not sure if we would be able to be build a successful team to get us back into the league.
  22. Can't understand why Tam Courts is not the front runner
