    Greenwood looked delighted, didn't he?

You don't usually get much emotion after goals during reserves or U20  games, unless they're scored by a player who don't net very often. That particularly applies during friendlies.

To answer the question someone asked last night, the goals were scored by Greenwood (2), Harris (2) and Jarvis.

I agree 're your points on Mackin and Nelson. I'd be reasonably happy rotating 2 out of 3 between Nelson Lewis and Mackin based on form opposition formation etc. I'd really like us to play 2 up front though.

I think he will play 2 up top. I think he was maybe seeing how Dennon would cope on his own or if the three supporting players would suit it. If we were to play 1up top it would have to be Mackin however he would need plenty of support when he got the ball

He said at one of the roadshows in May that we would be playing two forwards this season. Last night may have been an exception because we were playing a higher-league team away from home.

Surely there's absolutely no chance of Devlin although if there's a possibility then we should be all over that.

Would definitely take Graham if we hadn't signed Mackin.

Looking forward to tonights game, hoping another weeks training and a bounce game will have helped the team gel more.

Once all the signings are concluded I suspect we'll find that a right-back was never on our shopping list. So if the Devlin part is inaccurate then the Graham part likely is too. He doesn't fit the profile of the "young, hungry, something to prove"-type players that Hartley's bringing in.

It doesn't need to be someone ridiculously expensive. People like Stephen Dobbie, Nicky Clark and James Keatings will all be on more than we'd normally pay, but I think someone like that is what's required to win the championship.

Stephen Dobbie is a red herring because he wouldn't leave QOS, even if we were willing to better his (alleged) 2K a week deal that Houston told us he was on. Would that not come under the "ridiculously expensive" bracket?

Nicky Clark I'll give you, but we'd probably have had to bust our wage structure by a similar amount to outbid Utd. And after the Loy scenario last year I wouldn't be keen to go back down that road.

Keatings  didn't exactly set the heather on fire at Tannadice last year so for me he would be a risky gamble.

Because although Nelson's a good player, he's not a proven experienced goalscorer which I think is what we're severely lacking.

That's been said a few times on the facebook pages too.

A proven, experienced goalscorer is not going to come to play in the Scottish Championship as he'll have better offers elsewhere. Or do you have anyone specific in mind that would come, we could afford, and that we should be going for instead of Nelson?

Left sided winger, exactly what we need.  Decent pedigree as well. Striker (Jak or Nelson) and a RB and we'll be sorted squad wise. If we can ship out Harris & Shepherd so much the better

we should have shipped out kidd ohara Harris and shepherd. maybe even McKee too. that's 5 players out and we could have had 2 or 3 better players in

The manager obviously disagrees with you on the first two. As for the others, you can't ship players out if they're under contract unless they choose to leave.  Albeit they may just be biding their time to see what offers they get first. I think the window is still open for another month.

I seen the Sunderland Press are linking us with Andy Nelson again x

Indeed . The headline of the link kindly posted by Keithy is basically a repeat of what Hartley said at the various fan forums. So the information is accurate, albeit two months out of date.

What the headline doesn't tell us is if it's any more likely to happen than it was at the start of May.

    So........

There's nothing imminent as far as I know, though now I've said that I'll probably get a call to come in on Monday. ;)

PH knows the positions he wants to fill and is looking around. The squad rebuilding is probably 4/5 complete and the transfer window still has more  than a month to run, so I'd speculate that he'll take his time to make sure he gets the right players.

Has there been any rumours if signings? Anyone seen @Bainsfordbairnlurking around the stadium?

I'm normally down the stadium four or five times a week but apart from games most of these visits are favours for the commercial department.

I don't think you'll get rumours of signings, or at least not accurate ones. Virtually all the names we were linked with online turned out to be folk who we weren't chasing. Dan Turner was an exception but I think that one came from press reports.

It was the worst performance many people have ever seen at TFS.

These people don't go very often then. I can think of plenty worse. Losing five to Livingston and Peterhead springs to mind. Being three down against Queens before halftime. Never mind some of the aberrations last season.

    4 hours ago, EdiBairn said:

I've never seen so many happy clappers as on this thread. The first half performance last night was absolutely dreadful

I don't think anyone's defended the first half performance. It was dire and nobody has claimed otherwise.

If we play like that for both halves in every game after the league begins then nobody will defend either the players or manager. Certainly nobody did after our dreadful start last season. The knives were out on P&B pretty early on. It's hard to defend a team that doesn't win any of their opening seven league games.

So no, we're not happy clappers and no it wasn't the worst performance ever seen in fourteen years of football at TFS.

Conclusion - you're talking shite. Again.

I'm giving my opinion now that I doubt that we have a squad capable of winning this league, if that gets certain people's backs up then so be it.

I have no idea if we have a squad capable of winning the league, and I say that from the perspective of having seen every game we've played, plus a few training sessions. I simply don't have enough knowledge of what our players are capable of. Never mind the players the opposition have signed.

Which is why I find it so annoying that people rush to judgement. Why not wait until the end of the first quarter of league games is over, or at least until a few have been played before we demand the guillotine and trebuchet are brought out?

Depending on how old you are, you may well remember the "Stainrod is pish" sentiments expressed by members of the FSC supporters bus when Airdrie went eleven points clear at the top of our division. I was on it at the time and can well remember all the  negativity about him. Then we got a draw at a fog-enshrouded Dens park and the bandwagon took off. It wasn't Airdrie who won the league that season.

It's far, far too early to judge things will go this season.

How much time do they want, six hours a day training, games against supposedly lesser sides.

Are the players brought in really better than what we could sign in Scotland, No chance is the answer.

We started last season with a playing squad signed almost exclusively from Scotland. (Peter Grant & Joe McKee were the only exceptions. And Joe came from Carlisle, which isn't exactly far from the border).

In their opening 17 league games, they won twice. Once away to Morton and once in the 17th match, when they beat QOS a day before Hogmanay.

Then January arrived. Hartley brought in an influx of players from England and they won 10 of the 17 league games in the second half of the season.

That statistic suggests you're talking shite. The fact you think they train six hours a day proves you're talking shite. It's actually about  quarter of that, plus a gymn session in the afternoon.

Like all Bairns fans, I can't say I was enthralled with the result today. But the amount of OTT hysteria I'm reading in various places beggars belief.

I don't know tbh, Harris strikes me as the kinda guy who will be happy to sit in the shadows and just pick up a wage,

That would be alright for an old pro at the end of his career, not for someone in his early twenties.

I have no idea how many suitors he'll have just now, but if he only plays reserve football this season - or maybe doesn't play at all - then there'll be a lot less next summer.

Tbf he isn't at our level but he was Edinburgh City's player of the year I believe so I think he could find a club quite easily.

Given how well he did at Edinburgh City I doubt Shepherd will have any difficulty finding another club. He won fans player of the year, top goalscorer and scored not far off one goal in every two games.

As neither Shepherd nor Harris have been in any of the squads for the five friendlies we've played, it seems blatantly obvious that they're not wanted and won't play for our first team again. It's probably just a case of waiting while their agents find them the best deal possible elsewhere.

Bit of a Houston signing unfortunately IMO. The guy wasn't good enough for Livingston last season so I don't see how he's going to be good enough for a title winning side.

He had eight goals by Christmas and was I think their top scorer at that point. Then they signed Hardie / Miller and suddenly decided to punt him out on loan to Brechin. For whom he scored against Falkirk, incidentally.

He's the big target man we all wanted and is coming here with something to prove. That'll do for me.

I thought there was going to be highlights of the Aberdeen game.  Anyone got any news on this?  Is it too soon?

I think there was a problem with the FFC TV equipment as although Lewis & Stuart filmed the first half they weren't on the gantry in the second. I believe the club were going to get highlights from Aberdeen. They may be waiting on those coming through.

I was in attendance at a business breakfast thing at the stadium this morning where we had a briefing from Hartley and the coaching staff about motivation and stuff. Very interesting it was as well. He showed us the same powerpoint type presentation as he showed the players when they came back for pre season training then had a bit of a Q & A thing where he confirmed he was still after another two strikers and he wasn't going to the Little Mix concert.

I wasn't present during the entire event, but during the Q&A bit in the dressing room he said another one or two players without mentioning positions. I took that as possibly being a striker and right fullback, given that we have one on trial at the moment who played against TNS. Having said that, we've also got a trialist midfielder who played against TNS so maybe it's just a case of whoever catches his eye.

Or maybe he's covering bases and there might be more to come in if some of the current squad go out on loan.

I wouldn't be surprised if the club posted an update on PH's thoughts once the pre-season games are under way. That might be one way of trying to give season ticket sales a push. Or perhaps we're due another statement from the CEO.

I'm sure Bullen got a 2yr or possibly 3yr which recall being madness, Jackie Mac got 2yr and I'm sure McCann got 1yr.

Bullen, McCann, & McNamara all got two year deals. McCann left after one year, allegedly because he didn't get on with Elvis so  after Pressley was appointed as Assistant to May McCann then wanted out. O' Brien got a three year deal.

Those four were the mainstays of Yogi's "Next Level" signings in the summer of 2008, along with Steve Lovell who got a one year deal.  A spending spree that would have seen us relegated were it not for the ball deflecting off Higdon's thigh in the final game of the season at Inverness. Plus Dani Mallo, of course.

May allegedly tried to get rid of all four when he took over due to their salaries being more than we could afford after the collapse of the Setanta deal. Or at least that was the story that was leaking out from the club at the time.  McNamara went, the others remained and at the end of that season we did go down.

Naah. I've liked things / posted as "Falkirk FC" on Facebook and then realised I forgot to log out and back in under my own name.  Easy mistake to make - and to fix.

Our twitter guy will be fine.

I disagree with what you say here.  Everyone deserves civility.  You were only one of those involved.  Since joining this forum I have been accused of being someone else, a troll, etc.  I have been treated with what I would consider a lack of civility by some.  I have apologised to you, can we just move on, I'd be happy doing that.

In real life, I've often found that the best way to move on after a spat with someone is to forget about it. Leave it in the past and hope the other party does the same. I think the same principle applies to online too.

The worst thing you can do is rake over the embers of who did what, whom was at fault and how you felt about it.

*Warning - Stereotype sexist comment to follow. Do not read if easily offended.*

Women do this all the time, or at least many of the ones that I know do. It annoys the hell out of us men.

If you want to move on I'd suggest your post about an hour or so back was a mistake. Let it go. As soon as the games start getting played there'll be plenty more interesting things to talk about anyway.

  21. I don't think anyone could claim it was a great performance. You kind of get used to these during early pre-season games though. I mind one match at Leeuwarden in Holland when we barely touched the ball and the guys around me did nothing but moan like bugggery all game. "Paid good money to come and watch this shite" etc, etc.

However, there were a few wee flashes here and there that showed promise for the future: a bit of trickery from TOE that bamboozled the defender and let him put in a good cross at the end of the FH, Froxy looking lively any time he had the ball, Luke Watt going past his man on two or three occasions, and err, Lewis Kidd being (IMO) one of our standout performers.
