  2. Thanks. The BBC is often sloppy in its reporting. The Americans will try to get Warner arrested and extradited too.
  3. The Swiss investigation into the World Cup awards to Russia and Qatar will hopefully bring down the rest of the corrupt fraudsters. "The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has opened criminal proceedings against persons unknown on suspicion of criminal mismanagement and of money laundering in connection with the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 Football World Cups. In the course of said proceedings, electronic data and documents were seized today at FIFA’s head office in Zurich. "Today, on Wednesday 27 May 2015, the OAG has seized data and documents stored in IT systems at the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) as part of a so-called “collection of evidence on cooperative basis”. That means that the party in possession of the data – in this case, FIFA – delivers the requested data to law enforcement authorities, or gives assistance in securing the data, thus facilitating an efficient and swift procedure. The collection of relevant bank documents had already been ordered beforehand at various financial institutes in Switzerland. The files seized today and the collected bank documents will serve criminal proceedings both in Switzerland and abroad."
  4. BBC report - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-32895048 "Those arrested include: Jeffrey Webb - head of the confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean, Concacaf Jack Warner, former Fifa vice-president"
  5. Surely we can get a better keeper than Kyle Letheren? If not, stick with Gallacher as first choice, Scully as back-up/competition and Waters as U20/3rd keeper. ETA - What about the Jamie McDonald rumour? Has he knocked us back or can't we afford him?
  6. Have you bothered to read any of the articles or coverage in the online media? The US investigation relates to tournaments in North, Central and South America. A former FIFA Vice-President (Jack Warner) and a current Vice-President are among those arrested. Eduardo Li who was due to join the FIFA Exec Committee on Friday has also been detained. Jeffrey Webb, Head of Concacaf was arrested too. Chuck Blazer, former FIFA Exec member and Head of Concacaf, is the insider who co-operated with the US authorities. He carried a wire tap in meetings and has already pleaded guilty. Hardly minor officials from Africa or Asia!
  7. There must be a reasonable chance that O'Donnell will stay after all. He was not one of the three players that the manager expects to leave over the next few days. Perhaps Archie has made O'Donnell a very good offer to stay. He would be my top priority.
  8. ^ You obviously think that the club will risk offering Welsh a new deal. IMHO he would have to prove his fitness in pre-season training and friendlies first. The manager's press comments indicate that his budget will not increase much if at all. With a small senior squad, he can't risk losing a player for the whole season again. If Hendry is a genuine prospect, it would be reasonable to offer him a deal and send him out on loan. IIRC he can play for the U20s whilst on loan. Airdrie are obviously keen to take our defenders on loan. Ayr, with McCall and John Henry in charge, is another obvious option.
  9. Will Chick Dung continue his pretence to be a Buddies supporter? The broadcasters can't do enough for the Sevconian and Sellick hordes. IIRC BT Sport had live Sevco games on 3 Friday nights in a row during the fannies' boycott. Auntie and BT seem to be working closely together. There are live BT commentaries repeated on MOTD. Balding has chat shows on both channels. Then there thick pundits (especially Savage) who work for them too. Then there is Al Jazeera Sport with Linacre et al. If only we could have intelligent and articulate presenters!
  10. Fox, O'Donnell, BRE, Craigen, Higginbotham and Lawless are all free agents after Saturday and don't need to be "released". Craigen's and BRE's inclusion on the list just confirms that they have not been offered deals. They won't be in the squad on Saturday and can leave a few days early.
  11. This. The list is shorter than expected. That suggests that the manager has offered deals to the other players, including Welsh and those in the development squad, who are out of contract.
  12. And the Deadwood jokes but thanks for reminding me of Caroline Langrishe!
  13. +1 I was expecting Lawless to miss a few games at the start of the season. IIRC he bet on over 500 matches and the SFA's beaks have been lenient. Btw, has there been any news on Jordan McMillan recently?
  14. Balatoni improved when playing with Frans. There were a few going through the motions on Saturday. My hunch is that he will leave for another SPL club. Seaborne has been out for several weeks and seems a bit brittle so we need a good back-up. BRE has had very little first team action so he could head back to England. That leaves Lindsay who lacks experience in the top flight. There should be plenty of decent alternatives available so I'm not too fussed tbh.
  15. Staying in Scotland perhaps but (IIRC) Balatoni and Craigen live in Edinburgh and commute to Glasgow.
  16. Is he being kept? The BBC says that Irvine is still contracted to Celtic.
  17. Very true and there could be a few loan options too. ATS is the obvious one but the manager rightly got Booth in first. There are lots development squad players at the big clubs who are in their 20s but have little chance of first-team action. Many go out on loan to League One and Two clubs. The key question is should the management team develop other clubs' players rather than our own.
  18. The manager's comments in the press suggest that the budget will be tight. Given our lower crowds this season, he may have even less to spend in the window. The big question is whether the club can afford to sign Taylor permanently, especially if the (rumoured) agreed fee is substantial. Over the last couple of season, several players have had their contracts terminated and were replaced by better players in the January window. The end of January and February period was awful and may have cost us a top 6 finish. Hopefully, there will be no repeat next season.
  19. Not tricky at all. Scully is under contract for next season so he can't just walk away in the huff. His performances in Division One don't give him the right to be the second choice next season. He must demonstrate, in pre-season training and friendlies, that he has developed the necessary skills and ability to play in the top tier. The final decision lies with the management team and coaches. They will have other options if they think that he's not good enough or has the wrong attitude.
  20. You only have to look at the 2015 vs 2010 vote shares in England's constituencies - especially in SW London, the South, the South West and Wales where the Lib Dems were hammered. UKIP has largely replaced the Lib Dems as the protest party for those oppose the Tories and Labour. At general elections, Tory and Labour voters are generally loyal. In European elections, they are more likely to rebel as they do not affect who is in government.
  21. It would certainly be my assumption. What a waste of time and money!
  22. Patrick Flynn MEP, former Political Editor of the Daily Express, would be my bet. Farage is not at all well and stood down in 2009/10. Douglas Carswell MP has ruled himself out and it would be no surprise if he defected back to the Tories, especially if Nuttall or Flynn succeeds Farage. Flynn will having the powerful backing of Richard Desmond who donated a million quid for the election campaign. He would take UKIP to the left on economics to target Labour and Lib Dem voters. Most of UKIP's votes on Thursday came from Lib Dems and, to a lesser extent, Labour rather than Tories. If Labour goes back to middle class Blairism, UKIP will be ready to target the working class vote.
