    Just about to post
    An absolutely phenomenal commentator

He's very fair and even. He was such cunt as a player as well, amazed at what a good commentator he is. Probably the best in the game right now.

And in fairness to Scotland 20....its been a huge turnover in personnel....the last two seasons they've been hugely competitive for the first time ever beating Italy Wales, thrashing England n beating Australia for 1st time ever at that level...now those guys are holding fort for Scotland 7s, Glasgow n embra. The u20s are now a very young inexperienced squad again

Does playing for Glasgow or Edinburgh take priority over playing for the under 20s? I saw Kinghorn playing for Edinburgh yesterday, though maybe he's too old now?

  3. It's a decent team. I think we may struggle in the scrum and the breakdown, especially if we get a hard time from the ref. Need the Grays, Wilson and Strauss to be on their game and bring some serious physicality against this Irish pack. Think Dell and Fagurson will struggle, and I'd have probably played Barclay over Watson.

Still, we have a chance, and I can't help but get excited!

What games are everyone going to this year? I've got Wales at home and England away. Wish I'd bought tickets for Italy.

By my reckoning based on the assumption that Wasps beat Zebre. A Connacht win puts Glasgow against Munster and a defeat makes it Saracens

Who would you rather get? Think I'd like to play Saracens.

  5. Glasgow probably won't get the credit they deserve for this, with Leicester already being out, and having no coach, etc, but that was massive. We doled out a humping that nobody expected. Should be no fear going into the QF, Glasgow are a very good team.

    Fucking. Hell.

    Looking like another good Saturday!

Glorious stuff from Glasgow. Russell has played so well too, after last week. Price must be a potential outsider for the Lions too.

Only surprise is Dickinson missing, is he still injured and going to miss the 6 nations?

I would also have included another fly half, either Jackson or Horne as you know Weir isn't going to get on if he is on the bench.

I expect Laidlaw will cover 10 at a push.

  8. Ulster well beaten. That pretty much means it's win or bust against Leicester then. Certainly the game is winnable, if we keep our cool and play our own game. No doubt we are a better team than Leicester. We just can't get beaten by the occasion.

I'd have guessed it was Leinster last season, if it is the same game Glegg kicked all 12 Glasgow points but I might be wrong.

I wonder if any contact was made re getting Nico back before he signed up at Exeter, he would have been capable of giving a spark during the six nations, as it is I don't think he's been stripped yet.

I don't think Glasgow are that kind of club to be honest. Can't think of any overseas players who've even come back to us. I think once you're out, you're out.

Sarto was an improvement on Naiyaravoro IMO, but sadly picked up an injury. Same with a couple of others - Peterson and Rory Hughes would spring to mind. Horne has never had a proper run this year, Richie Vernon is still a long term miss. Adam Ashe is only just back, same with Fusaro.

Agree that the 2nds look weaker - we need a decent back-up stand-off first. I like Clegg, but he also needs some support. You could also argue that the opposition have identified when we can and can't play the high tempo game, and are targeting the 2nds more than before.

When you look at the squad in general though, there are a huge number of good young players, with some smart heads around them. I'd love to see Glasgow make another Corey Flynn-type signing of a midfield back who can offer some steel and intelligence when the internationals are away.

If Sarto was fit would he not have been away with Italy anyway during international weeks, or has he retired? I do agree he's better than Naiyaravoro, but I thought he wouldn't have been playing in the 2nd string weeks anyway.

Absolutely. In previous years nakarawa n strauss were there to drag the rest of the squad along but Naka is away n strauss will more than likely be with Scotland. Top 4 looks very tough imo. Would be very happy if last league at home v embra saw Glasgows fate in their own hands. Eta niko used to weave some magic in those games too.

It's not just even Naka and Strauss we miss, the B team in general looks so much weaker. Lamont is another year older, Weir is away, Jerry Yanuyanutawa was a good prop, Niayavaro never hit the heights we probably hoped, but he wasn't shite and also a lot of the younger players have probably done better than expected and ended up in the Scottish squad earlier than anticipated, especially in the Autumn when there was a few injuries.

Anyway, happy new year to the rugby thread posters!

It's a nightmare to get tickets for Twickenham. Do Scottish rugby clubs still get an allocation? I know someone who got tickets for Cardiff via his old RFC.

Yeah, they do. That's how I usually get mine.
