I can understand most of these but Eliphas Shivute? I really can't think of anything remotely controversial or contentious he did in his short spell with Motherwell. -
Does that mean we're not sure about him due to his difficulties with injuries last season? Maybe it means he's unsure about us but if that's the case then why not just look for a club down south?

Once living and playing here, the players brought up from the English lower leagues realise the size of Rangers and what they could pay without necessarily taking in everything else that comes with them. Unfortunately in those circumstances they could become an attractive proposition - Nicky Law was even prepared to drop down the divisions. Of course they still have to pay the money if the player is under contract.

You're right (I was editing my post when you posted). My mind was playing tricks on me - I was sure we had him on loan initially but it was a bit of a bold move by McGhee to spend some cash on him.

There was also Jim O'Brien who was pretty guff to begin with but improved greatly to the extent we took him on (we may even have paid money to Celtic for him). He certainly came on leaps and bbounds under McGhee.I can't remember if we managed to sell him on or if he left at the end of his contract. Edit: sorry, talking rubbish. I could have sworn we had him on loan but I see we signed him outright in the first place.
