  1. Aye, Jim's a smashing guy. He got a lot of stick at Cliftonhill, which always shocked me as his goal scoring record was excellent.
  2. Not with the snow that fell overnight. It's Winter Wonderland in the 'brig!
  3. I see we don't have a thread in the cup section, so probably best to stay here. That really was typical Brian Kerr Rovers yesterday; lost crap goals (the diminutive McNeill with a header, FFS); pulled well in front with some decent finishing, and then let EK back in just to keep the blood pressure levels up. I suspect we were worth our victory, but it would be nice to win occasionally with little drama; I can't remember when we last did that. Well done to EK for frightening the life out of us in the first half and for keeping fighting right to the end. Best of luck for the rest of the season.
  4. On paper, you're playing us at a very good time. Teams that played us in the early part of the season have tended to have us sussed when we meet them again. Our crazy scoring record has abated too, and we're still shipping stupid goals at an alarming rate; bang the ball across the box and get some bodies after it and we struggle. From our point of view, this is a hiding-to-nothing; we're expected to beat you and will get very little external credit if we do. That said, if we win, it will help our confidence which has been battered over the last month or so, and hopefully lead to a return to getting League points on the board.. I'd wish you luck, but clearly I'd rather you didn't win. However, I have absolute respect for small and dedicated groups like you describe above; that's what we rely on too. EK 1 Rovers 1 for me, with us getting back in late. Hope the pie stall sells valium!
  5. i only got into the NFL three years ago when the kids took an interest in it. They went for the Pats and Jets, and I chose the Panthers as my mate is from South Carolina originally, and it seemed as good a reason to choose a team as any.
  6. LARRY LARRY LARRY!!! A man who could run the 100 metres in ten seconds without a ball, and ten minutes with a ball!
  7. Wot! No Ciaran Donnelly? if big Gemmell is there so too should Ciaran be.
  8. Zimmer frames at dawn, although, to be fair, it doesn't seem to stop the Airdrie boys.
  9. I wonder whether we're looking for someone to help with player registration - clicky
  10. Phone Ronnie Boyd at the club on Monday. He's our Chairman and much more approachable and pragmatic than Paul, who as an ex-police officer can be a bit 'by the rules' Also I'd be interested in knowing what justification Paul used for charging school kids as adults; is it purely because they have no identification to prove they're not working?
  11. Agreed, although he's actually been pretty solid through the League cup ties. However, having an equally ponderous (but clearly unfit and rusty) Jason Marr beside him yesterday really didn't help. Young Lightbody should be first choice for Saturday; he provides the extra pace to bail out Perry, and Marr whilst he gains match fitness.
  12. Sorry to hear that and Rovers staff are usually pretty pragmatic with things like this. What I can say is that if you phone the club this week they will take what you say on board. This is actually a situation I'm likely to find myself in this year. My oldest boy is also 16, but as he's still at school he should get a student concession. Of course, schools don't provide ID in the way that Unis provide matriculation cards so I'm fully expecting to encounter many jobsworths insisting that he pays in as an adult, much like you did yesterday. In saying that, the two away grounds we've been to this year (E.K and QotS) have been fine with it, as were Rovers for the home cup ties, although the staff there have known him since he was 4!
  13. Main St, if you're earlier enough. To the north or the east of the ground, if not. Say out of Home Bargains, if you want to avoid months of Parking Eye demands.
  14. Looks like Darren is going to be a big boy now. That will be interesting...
  15. The appointment of an assistant will be even more interesting. He's always had very experienced and dominant guys beside him in Sandy Clark and Billy Stark, but i wonder whether he might feel he doesn't need that now and appoint Tony McMinn (his first-team coach at Rovers) as assistant. Not sure if any more Rovers players will follow him as most either moved to other clubs or signed again for us. Mark Ferry and Kyle Turnbull don't seem to have clubs, but I'd worry for you if he signed either. Oh and he'll play Willis week after week despite him driving the supporters mad. Anyway, I'm glad he found a club...
  16. Not particularly. However, Dusseldorf is and they're not far apart.
  17. Cracking day out even if the game wasn't brilliant. Thanks again for looking after us, Steve, and it was nice to meet @Tibbermoresaint and John too
  18. Our German football trip is Hamburg this year and we're heading over the weekend of 10th March. Both big Hamburg clubs are at home so we've got tickets for St Pauli v Union Berlin on the Friday and Hamburg v Gladbach on the Sunday. Nearest game at a decent level on the Saturday is at Hannover so we're taking a day trip down there to see them play 1860 Munich. Even tickets for St Pauli were surprisingly easy to get and we thankfully didn't have to resort to the likes of viagogo. Cannae wait :-)
  19. Your Leverkusen match tickets will cover you for travel in the VRS transport region, which is centred on Cologne and Bonn.. However, Dusseldorf (and Dortmund) are in the VRR transport region. To get round the above, you'll need to buy a ticket from Dusseldorf to Langenfeld (which is on the border between the VRS and VRR) and your Leverkusen match ticket will cover you from there. You can also board a train that doesn't stop at Langenfeld doing the above as long as it isn't an Inter city Express (ICE); if I remember right the S Bahn trains stop at Langenfeld (and a million other stops) whilst the regional trains pretty much go straight from Dusseldorf to Leverkusen Mitte. The ground is a pleasant 15 min walk from Mitte station through the town park.
  20. We went a few weeks back via when they played Houston and I completely agree about the quality; I've never seen two teams lack urgency like that, and I'm not sure the heat was solely the culprit. I loved the atmosphere outside with DJs, bands etc though and the beer was a bit cheaper out there - $8 for a 16 fl oz can of Heineken. It will be a bit harder to get tickets from next year when they move closer to downtown but parking etc will be far easier. The area the Citrus Bowl is in (Parramore) is not a place for tourists to be walking about in, hence the current bus shuttle for a half mile journey to and from downtown.
  21. I've told him how it works; there's a lynx bus service...
  22. We're just back from our 2nd stay at Saratoga. The accommodation is excellent, but you're best paying the extra for the villa over the studio (the latter is bit cramped). It's a huge resort with the Grandstand area being our favourite, due to it having a quiet pool and being a short walk from both the Carriage House and Disney Springs; it's the first bus stop too. If you're staying with Disney, make sure you get the Dining plan; you'll save a fortune, especially if you have kids that are interested in character dining; I can give you tips on the best Disney restaurants too if that would be helpful. That was our fourth time staying in Disney and the first we've taken a car, as we'd pretty much exhausted the Disney parks and wanted to explore a bit. However, you can easily survive without a car and just rely on Disney's transport including the Magical Express from the airport. There's also a Lynx bus from Disney Springs that will take you to the Seaworld parks on I Drive, where you can change for buses to Universal and Florida Mall.
