St Mirren - Dundee, 30/10
codfish replied to Doonhame Buddie's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
That was about as comfortable a 1-0 win as you’ll ever see - can’t remember us winning a second ball at any stage of the game, and only really tested the keeper with an optimistic pot shot. I really want it to work for Main, but we don’t seem to suit playing two up top - Kiltie or McAllister should be in the McGrath role next week, reverting back to the 3-6-1. Also concerned that Erhahon’s absence is showing up Power’s lack of legs. Love Ryan Flynn, but Ethan covers more ground. -

No it’s not. It’s because it’s an allegation. Just like Leigh Griffiths allegedly kicked a flare into the crowd - it was on video, but journos can’t be seen to prejudice the investigation. -

Difficult to argue that - he was popping up all over the place, always wanting the ball and looking to be positive, even in the last 5 mins when we were a man down. Thought Tanser was the stand-out for the first half-hour though when we were on top - yet to see the lack of heart he apparently has (@RandomGuy [emoji12]), and he’d arguably be a bigger loss than McGrath if he misses the next couple of games. -

I hope we’ve spoken to Wolves already to enquire about keeping him (massive long shot) or getting more like him up on loan. He’s getting better by the week, and we should be selling that to clubs down south. Long term, loans aren’t ideal, but used in the right way it should help us in the short term. -

The alternative might’ve been to go with McAllister instead of Tait and try to get at Tavernier, but that’s with the benefit of hindsight. Main for Millar was probably the right final change, but we didn’t really give Main (or Brophy at any stage) anything to work with. -

Potentially damaging afternoon for us, regardless of the result. First 25 mins, I felt we were excellent - pressed Rangers really high and looked in complete control when we had possession. Goal aside, Ronan was an absolute pest, and Tanser was having loads of joy against Tavernier. Then it seemed like we started to sit back, and combined with Rangers upping the pace, we lost our way. We’d probably have got in ahead though had it not been for two lapses from Power - we’d come close to overplaying on a couple of occasions, so it was only a matter of time that we’d get punished. Watching live I didn’t think the foul for the penalty was inside the box, but having seen the replay I stand corrected (although there’s no way we get it at the other end…). Second half was a bit of a non-event, but have to hope the injuries to Erhahon and Tanser (surely wasn’t tactical) aren’t serious. McGrath’s, hopefully, isn’t long-term, but fear the worst there. Maybe an opportunity for Kiltie alongside Ronan though if he’s fit. -

I find it hard to believe we’ve offered Jamie more than the £10k p/w we paid Marc Macausland… -
It was the 5 minute preview of the 6pm game that got me today. Sure, preview it, but not midway through the first half of about 18 other SPFL matches!

He’ll also have worked with Kevin Thomson before during his time in the Rangers youth set-up, which makes the move to Kelty more understandable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Agreed - I went for a standard steak and gravy alongside the steak and black pudding (purely for research purposes, not because I’m greedy), and while the traditional pie was fine, the steak and black pudding one was excellent. -
Lovely to see us actually manage a game well for a change - moved the ball well after going 3-2 up and in the last few minutes we kept it in the right areas. Used to having palpitations when we’re defending a lead late on! Red card and follow-up sub from Goodwin changed the game in our favour, up to that point we were guilty of conceding possession cheaply in midfield, and the likes of Brown were bossing the game. Thought Aberdeen looked fairly decent in flashes, but out of possession have clearly taken on their captain’s niggly traits. Fine when it works for you… For us, the goals will do Roman the world of good, but thought he was a bit quiet otherwise. Certainly made the most of the space in the last half hour though. Tanser keeps impressing going forward, and if McAllister adds a final ball, his willingness to take men on could be a game-changer. Feel like we’ve said that for a few years though.

We did/didn’t have an away allocation for St Johnstone (depending on who you asked at what time). We’ll inevitably sell tickets in the away stand, but probably won’t publicise that they’re actually for away fans. -
I’ll give you that. Articulating it is clearly not a strength, but I dare say he knows far more than the other two mentioned. Stuart Kettlewell was reasonable for the short time I listened today. A nice break from the usual suspects too.

I mean, it’s certainly one approach. Given the regular appearances of Derek Ferguson and Pat Bonner, I assume it’s the BBC-mandated one.

Was interesting to hear Willie Miller talking about Aberdeen’s new signings and commenting that ‘he had no idea of their style’, but that Longstaff ‘had scored a couple in the Premier League’. This was, apparently, a justification for why he was surprised they both started. I mean, the guy is literally only there to talk about Aberdeen - some minor research surely wouldn’t be beyond him.

I’m sure there’s a wind-up angle here, but he’s hardly had a chance created for him. Victim of hoofball being employed by the manager, more than anything. -

Might post something more in-depth later, but getting back to the car to hear Goodwin talk about tired legs was a bit strange. By my reckoning, tired legs can be somewhat addressed by using your full allocation of subs… -

To be honest, it’s more the fact that his last three seasons make Curtis Main look prolific that would make me stay clear. He’ll be the highest earner wherever he goes, with no guarantee he can actually hit the levels he used to. -

Not sure where you heard £13k was a combined figure. That’s just Tanser’s basic. -
That’ll be Burns and Hameed both out in the first over tomorrow now… Once India we’re 5 down it was the sort of day England had to force home the advantage. Usually a situation they conspire to f’ck up in new and exciting ways.

So the good news is that St Mirren have confirmed all season ticket holders can attend on Sunday. Tickets are now on general sale, and it looks like it’s only the Main Stand Red Zone that’s closed. The bad news? The home ticketing portal also includes N3 in the away stand, and the club haven’t said anything about accommodating St Johnstone fans. It’s another in a long line of vague statements that leave more questions than answers… -

Hopefully a memorable night for you guys tonight. As Radford said, savour it - the way this team is going, you might need to wait a full fortnight for another one. -
