How many teams are in the south? Wouldn’t be many more games down here. Can’t see November making any difference mind u always a wet cold month

14 but the aim is for a 26 game season ! As mentioned the cases here compared to the Central belt are comparatively low and hopefully following guidelines they can get things up and running , starting Saturday.

I know this might be controversial but you could for this season only Regionalise Round One?

Used to be North and South qualifying and not only would it make sense again during the early rounds it would certainly help this year especially if everyone was involved

  3. The Boxing Day timing of Round 1 is a very clever ploy to dissuade teams from risking the potential costly trip to the Highlands on Christmas Day itself and the unenviable task of possibly trying to find hotel rooms for 20-30 players / staff ! Clearly the SFA realise this is a big ask of any non league clubs to guarantee the availability of all their players over the holiday period and are hoping this will be a big factor in the decisions these teams make !

With only 16 signed players there’s a very real possibility of some of the reserves going up as we seen last season.

One of their Reserves works for me and he says they’ve made really good signings and he fully expects them to compete at the right end of League 2 this Season ! I still believe there’ll be limited opportunities for these young lads although I might be wrong and time will tell

With Stranraer taking the step down to League 2 I wouldn’t be surprised to see the better players in the reserve team moving up to the first team.

Possibly Tam but if I’m honest I can’t see them taking too many chances with the youngsters because if they have another poor season they could potentially end up risking Lowland League football and that’s a scenario I personally doubt they might ever return from ! Just my opinion but I’d reckon they’ll spend some of the Rangers cash to acquire a few proven players for this level in an attempt to bounce back straight away.

I think most people realise that there are several very decent teams in LL that are certainly better than the perennial strugglers in League 2 and once the WOSFL adds a few more strong outfits it’ll be nearly impossible for them to the SPFL any time soon. The real shame is that this Pyramid currently stifles these forward thinking sides and I for one would love to see 2 promotion places available for those looking to progress and help revitalise Scottish Football which is long verdure

On that case then they’re going be super strong. Take it they’ve kept everyone else such as defence and midfield?

Season is going to be very interesting - looking forward to it and hopefully the Saints can cause some upsets :D

They’ll be strong alright I’d suggest and as for Saints , who knows !

Yes just heard today that Dean Agnew and Andrew Donley have supposedly signed with Reserves.... nothing on Caldo or anyone else

He’s there too ...... take it from me ! Johnny Baxter too apparently until he leaves for pastures new later in the year.  Anyone thinks Threave , Saints , Abbey Vale or anyone else will keep pace with that potential line up is deluded at best .......

  8. 13 hours ago, SaintMan said:

    Anyone know who they’ve signed?

Dolly apparently , Caldo returning from Threave , Dean Agnew coming back and other rumours that guys returning from the Juniors

I hear they’ve went the other way and lost the majority of their good players

    You’ve heard wrong Tam

  9. 13 hours ago, weeredbook said:

Paying anyone to play at that level of football is silly .

I’d totally agree ! What will your money bring you ? Win the South possibly , run into big West and East winners in the play offs or worse still splash the cash and still end up a mid table , mediocre side or worse still scrape around the bottom half going nowhere’s fast

  10. 6 hours ago, DG7 said:

No, not dismissing either of those teams. But my point is that the South League could have been called with Threave crowned champions. It was a real possibility. (For what it's worth I think the correct decision was made.) All I am saying is that I don't think Threave will be angry at missing out on a chance to go into the Lowland League. I think stability is more important right now.

Why would Threave have been declared Champions , on what basis ? PPG would have narrowly favoured Stranraer unless your suggesting being top when football was suspended was a sufficient factor ! I’d agree the decision was correct and the Lowland is still a big ask for any South side at the moment , more in terms of travelling for some although competing would be difficult over the course of a season as seen previously. I’d suggest winning any potential 3 way play off is now a far more difficult a prospect than actually trying to hold your own in the LL

There is wording in the rules about the Kelty Brora games being held at the end of the preceding season, so it's difficult to justify doing it several months later if somebody, for the sake of the argument lets call them Brechin, wanted to get pedantic about it, unfortunately.

Shame for both Clubs after fantastic seasons

  12. 5 hours ago, LongTimeLurker said:

Unfortunately the SPFL is off the hook in terms of the rules as written because they run the final set of games involving Club 42 and the Kelty Brora games organised by the SFA couldn't be played when the season ended as they are supposed to be.

If they can fit in Scottish Cup SFs and Final couldn’t they have managed closed door play off with Kelty and Brora then the Brechin match .......... just a thought

Thanks for the spelling lesson, i will come back with the i'm Not rather than im nit and also the space before your question marks.... Anyway i feel we are getting no where fast. I didn't join P&B to argue and bring politics into the chat so for that i apologise, on the part of a club training you are right it shouldn't be mentioned on a fans forum,  i would fully expect the league committee to  have already looked into the allegations and we should leave it in there more than capable hands.

Anyway lets get back to discussing the South Football and hope that we can all enjoy a game of fitba in 2020 or when ever it will restart!! and i look forward to Newton continuing there fine run of form that seen uses undefeated in  2020

When football resumes , whenever that may be , we’d be delighted to welcome you to Blairmount. If we can start the new season the way we were playing at the suspension of football we’ll be delighted

Against Saints?? If you read my post rather than jumping in foot first you would relies I have never even mentioned a team, surely you have also looked at there statement on there FB page and then seen the comments along with the What's-App  chat where a well known gentleman has mentioned that the police had even visited his home!! to which there seems to be utter shock by a few of the players to  why training is to be cancelled...  As for a grievance?? I certainly do have an issue with any team breaking the laws and potentially putting life's at risk, and am sure you would feel the same way if Newton had training going on behind everyone's back.

As for not defending anyone!! I am sure you understand the importance of trying to eradicate this Virus and ensure that a second waive does not hit our beautiful country, or are you another one of these that buries there head in the sand and feel that the SNP are doing a bad job in controlling Covid-19??

It’s realise and you’re fooling no one ! Do you actually know there was any training session or are you just ‘jumping in foot first’ to coin your phrase ?

im nit defending anyone if the guidelines have been broken but surely social media posts raising ‘concerns’ aren’t the way forward , why don’t you contact the Club directly ! Why bring politics into this , what’s your point exactly here other than your so called concern for a potential breach of guidelines ?

Been a long time reader of Pie and Bovril, but decided to take the plunge to join ( lock down).

During this Covid-19 Pandemic it was good to hear that Junior Teams had agreed to join the new West of Scotland League.

But now this has been totally over shadowed by the news that a certain team within the South of Scotland league has broken the Governments guidance  along with the Guidance set out to all  Football clubs within Scotland by the SFA!!!

Now i  understand that lock-down has taken its toll on everyone, but how disgraceful is it that a licence club who continue to receive financial backing from the SFA and also financial Covid-19 grants to tie them over until football in the south resumes, whilst the rest of the none member clubs within the league receive nothing would have the gall to organise training.

Now i understand nothing has been proven but feel that if there has been laws broken then the punishment needs to be severe and swift, remember these clubs went cap in hand begging for money, also there are families and love ones out there that are continuing to self isolate until the end of July 2020 because of the real threat to human life. The SFA will  investigate these claims as they have a duty of care to ensure all clubs adhere to there laws.

The sobering fact in all this...... what where the chairman and the committee of the club thinking, but also i sincerely hope the manager was not there as it certainly wouldn't look good in his current role being at the forefront of fighting this Virus....  Rant Over.

Ah the old ‘late to the party’ nonsense when in reality you simply made this account to have a pop at Saints and have these allegations against them been proven or is it simply a grievance you have with the St Mary’s Club ? I’m defending no one here by the way just curious as to your motive !

Any non league set up that sanctions a 20 team league needs head examined imagine a junior association came up with that nonsense it would be rightly shot down in flames.

On the south league let's face it its an amateur league i've a couple of relatives who play in the league and openly agree with that nothing wrong with it not sure why anyone would be so defensive about that.

So you’ve just made this account up on Wednesday to apparently make several negative comments and haven’t been too popular so far with your opinions I see !

Who are your amateur level relatives currently slumming it in the South and strangely people who work hard at these teams quite rightly feel proud of their respective Clubs despite invisible posters frequently knocking their efforts !

Any news on what's happening in the SOSFL ?

Not hearing much ! Football at this level looks a fair bit away still at the moment so we’ll have to hope for an improvement and a very gradual return to some sort of normality

I said it was a joke about 2 posts after that. You'd have seen that if you'd bothered to scroll down before you mashed the keyboard in a rage.

I’d already noticed that but it was evident when you didn’t mock the Juniors etc that your derogatory comment was as transparent as always ! No one was in a rage , we’re simply tired of your continual put down of the South when I’d assume you’ve never ever played against or even seen any of its sides ?

Aye fair play we could've taken 4 teams from the SoS as well to give 20.

    Linlithgow

    Bonnyrigg

    Camelon

    Bo'ness

    Kelty

    Broxburn

    Talbot

    Petershill

    Clydebank

    Glenafton

    Irvine Meadow

    Arthurlie

    Whitehill Welfare

    Stirling Uni

    Spartans

    Gretna

    Stranraer under-15s

    The Red Lion

    Little mid-Creetown Vale

    Annan Arms YMCA B

Nice to see you haven’t mellowed and you’re still a tool ! Popular as ever aren’t you with your pathetic put downs oh and remind everyone what sort of glittering career you had to be knocking everyone else ?

I wonder how things would have played out if you'd had that Super Duper League formed and inserted at tier 5 in 2013 with, for arguments sake, the top 6 West Juniors, top 6 East Juniors and top 4 EoS teams at the time. Decent chance someone would've got as high as the Championship by now potentially, as well as years worth of potential Cup ties against top flight times to rake in cash (eg EK vs Celtic, BSC vs Hibs).

Couldn’t fail to notice you included top 4 EOSFL yet failed to mention Dalbeattie Star or Threave Rovers who would certainly have been on a par with anyone coming out of the East at that time !  I’d agree with your assumption that by now several would’ve made rapid rises through the Pyramid system and given the game the shake up it badly needs

I don't think Threave were devastated at not having a crack at the Lowland League. Another year in the SoSL won't be a bad thing.

I don’t really think Threave would’ve been favourites too beat Bo’ness in any two legged play off if that’s what you’ve assumed and also to be honest Stranraer were in with a real chance of winning the South unless you had dismissed them too !

  22. 3 hours ago, weeredbook said:

Dalbeattie are a far better team than Threave  .Its a jump from SoS  to East never mind LL .

    A few additions  ?  6-7 maybe .

To get to LL you would need to beat teams like  Linlithgow ( who were 10th )  ,

Camelon  Bo'ness  Musselburgh Tranent Penicuick  Broxburn

    to name a few .

    That's not happening

Some of the East  conference teams are well in front of SoS never mind the Premier East

Camelon beat us 4-0 this year in the Scottish Cup and a couple of weeks later Threave beat us 5-0 ! Have you seen them play lately , do you actually know anything about them ?

Gala only beat us 2-1 with a last minute winner in the South Region Challenge Cup this year and we were short half a dozen players that day !

Stranraer Reserves beat Darvel 3-1 last year and now they're now in the new West Premier , you getting my drift here ?

The South isn’t as strong as well all know and agree but it’s not as poor as you believe !
