  1. http://www.clydefc.co.uk/news/2012/07/10/4139/. Another statement from The Bulky Wee. Fighting the good fight.
  2. Club Statement: SFL Meeting Wed, 4th Jul 2012 12:34pm The club sent two directors to attend the meeting of the SFL clubs yesterday and they have reported back to the Board. The meeting and conversations covered the best part of 5 hours but there were only a few overarching themes. The clear message portrayed is that Scottish Football is in a very dark place indeed and there is simply no good solution to what is now a structural problem that has gone beyond a one dimensional issue of where Rangers should play next season. No matter what happens now there is going to be enormous fallout across the Scottish game. Whether some good can be extracted from the impending mess will depend entirely on the SPL clubs, guided by the currently absent leadership of the SFA. Neil Doncaster wanted only one thing from the meeting, to get a steer from the SFL clubs whether they would allow Rangers into SFL1. He talked the clubs through a detailed explanation of where the SPL clubs would lose £16m next season if Rangers were not entered to the top division of the SFL. This was delivered as a matter of fact, it was a "reality". It seems that most, if not all, major sponsors of the SPL have exit clauses if either of the 'Old Firm' are not within the SPL. The total figure was not new, but the detail behind the number and its impact on individual clubs in the SPL was set out clearly. There were challenges made regarding the flip side of saving the central income from sponsors and media, the obvious impact of loss of supporters to the game who have strongly voiced their intent. Supporter reaction has not been factored in, again there are realities, the SPL clubs are waiting on their Sky cheques in August and clearly that was more important. Nowhere in the presentation was account taken on the impact to the finances of clubs, and more importantly the relevance of the game, should supporters stay at home. The consequential impact on the SFL from the presentation was that the SFL would lose its entitlement to circa £2m per annum from the Settlement Agreement put together to compensate the SFL for the SPL breakaway, this was made very clear by Neil Doncaster. He told the clubs that if the SPL didn't have the money then they could not pay the SFL. The reality however, which was clear from the detailed figures, is that the SPL, whilst losing an enormous amount of funding, would have the cash to make payment; it is just that the SPL would not meet the legal obligation to the SFL as the cash would be used to finance the SPL teams. The undeniable statement made on behalf of the SPL is commercially understandable. The SPL would not allow £16m to flow out of their coffers, the impact would be too catastrophic for the SPL clubs to contemplate and as such the only options are that Rangers enter SFL1 or, as a less attractive backstop, a breakaway SPL2 will be formed. There is no prospect, from an SPL point of view, that SFL3 can be allowed to happen. Neil Doncaster was delivering a very unpalatable proposition and he did it clearly and effectively, hence the representatives of Clyde Football Club understood that the only thing that mattered was the impact on SPL clubs from the loss of money from media and sponsors. It was to the credit of every SFL club, and probably to the surprise of Neil Doncaster, that nobody asked him to improve on the £1m offer. The SFL clubs were given a steer for themselves by Neil Doncaster, if the SFL could not tell him how they might vote, then he would expect the SPL clubs not to vote at their meeting either. There were a few new things learned in the meeting, not least that the rules of the SFL would allow any club accepted into the SFL, by a simple majority, to be placed in any division. The rules do not state, nor imply, that they must join at the bottom tier, only custom and practice around good governance and integrity has seen teams join in the bottom tier. In addition, the attendees at the meeting were left in absolutely no doubt whatsoever by Stewart Regan that if the SPL clubs voted to allow a Newco into the SPL then it would be blocked by the SFA refusing to transfer the SFA membership. It was however caveated well enough to make it less than an absolute statement. The meeting was full of implied actions and outcomes, the use of clever language when delivering the speeches allows anyone to defend with ‘that is not what I said'. However, nobody will have left the meeting with anything other than the very clear messages being put across. Denials of the substance of the message being delivered do not assist anyone in this absolutely dreadful situation. There will be no winners. Any level of integrity for the sport will be lost by one outcome and financial collapse, we are told, will fall upon the SPL with the other. Sadly, the SFA and SPL have decided that whilst they say they are looking for a collaborative solution, they have very clearly made sure that by their own inaction that the blame will sit with the SFL - no matter what the outcome. The Board of the SFL are being put under intolerable pressure by the other bodies looking to avoid the implications of properly applying their own governance procedures. In summary, the SFA implication is that there will be no entry to the SPL. The SPL implication is that it therefore has to be SFL1 with a bit of restructure, or an SPL2 with the rest of the SFL cut adrift. There were no other options. Whilst Stewart Regan said that the SFA did not favour an SPL2, there was no equivalent abhorrence of that proposal as was attached to the proposal for a Newco in the SPL, leaving the implication that the door remains wide open for the SPL to secure their £16m with or without the SFL. The Board of the club will consider the feedback from its representatives and also the outcomes of the next few days and will keep its supporters fully appraised, but in the meantime see no reason to amend any previous comment.
  3. Not a single failure in the team last night, but MOM for me was Feli. Absolutely outstanding.
  4. Probably ones that have us challenging for Europe and away from the relegation zone. He's only ever been in a relegation fight twice in his 10 years (his first and 3rd seasons)
  5. My 3 and a half year old (Hannah) has been "waking" absolutely screaming and petrified looking and at times walking out of her room completely disorientated. When we've been trying to settle her she is completely non responsive, only occasionally muttering some randoms words and noises. At times when we have thought she has settled back down her eyes fire wide open and she bolts upright, almost as if possessed. It's pretty upsetting to watch TBH, especially as it seems we can't control it. This has happened at 9:30pm every night bar 2 for the past week. Due to her screams she is also inadvertently waking up Ruaridh (now 4 months old) which is making for one tired pair of mummy and daddy. I have done a wee bit of googling and it sounds very much like night terrors. Has anyone had to deal with this and know of any tips /advice as to how to help tackle it?
  6. Snowing heavily in Cumbernauld just now. A decent layer on the ground already.
  7. Thanks for all the well wishes guys. Been a hectic and long couple of days (and even longer nights). Ruaridh is doing really well. Feeding well, crapping well and has a ridiculously strong neck for someone his age. Hannah has been brilliant with him too. Absolutely brilliant. Here's a couple of pics just for the hell of it.. 30mins old A couple of hours older. Congrats to the other new dads out in P&B and get a move on Baby Swarley.
  8. And bang here's baby! Within hour(s) of posting my wifes waters had gone and contractions were pretty constant. By 2:51am today baby Ruaridh William Shanks popped out to say Lhowdy y'all". 9lbs 4oz. Baby and mum are doing great(the wife is a star doing it all on just gas and air - not by choice mind you) Elated.
  9. Now 4 days overdue, first born has been ill all weekend (thankfully she's well on the way to being 100% again) and now tthe heavily pregnant one has been hit with pretty bad D&V bug. The doc has given her anti nausea tablets and I'm currently letting some lucozade go flat as i've been told that helps. Does anyone know any decent home remedies that are safe for pregnant woman?

  11. 20 week scan today and all is ticking along quite nicely. Baby is growing as should be and kicking away and generally not staying still for a second. Did allow us some good pictures. Placenta is sitting quite low just now so we've to go back in 10 weeks for another scan to see if it's moved up if not they will do regular scans and then work the birth plan around it if need be. Wee Well Chick, try and not worry. My wife's soon to be step-sister is also A- and she had to go through the injections and the pregnancy went perfect. She now has a cracking wee 3 year old girl. It'll all be good. Don't worry.
  12. For anyone going to the Bon Jovi gig here are the setlists for the tour so far. http://www.setlist.fm/setlists/bon-jovi-33d6b851.html
  13. She sure did. Brought the house down too with the last dance which was Bohemian Rhapsody. Her guitar solo (with inflatable pink guitar) was like she had been possessed by Hendrix. At one point she jumped down on to her knees arched her back and had the guitar above her head playing away. She stopped just shy of setting the guitar on fire. She even got her own special cheer when she came out to choose the raffle tickets Pwoud. Vewy Pwoud.
  14. Forgot to give an update on the potty training from my post a few weeks back. After more tears and tantrums we finally cracked it. She woke up one morning (10 days or so ago) and we've only had one or two little accidents since. And they were only not getting her to the toilet/potty quick enough. I am complete bag of nerves today. Hannah has her first dance display tonight and I'm terrified she'll freeze. She's been doing brilliantly with her dancing and it's really brought her on with her social development and that's been the main thing I wanted her to gain from it. It turns out though she's one of the top dancers in her group (age range from 3-5) according to the teachers and is quite advanced for her age in ballet and tap. I just hope she goes out and enjoys it and has some fun.
  15. Sorry just realised I never answered this! We're currently 12+4 and have so far been given a provisional EDD of 10/11/11 (provisional as they only go by the the EDD given at the NHS 12 week scan). From what I can deduce it sounds like we're approximately due around the same time?
  16. Not the best start to potty training weekend in store but a postive finish. Five accidents, the first 3 she never really tried to tell us she needed and the 3rd being in the middle of B&Q. Good for us she was wearing a dress. Not for the employee who had to mop the floor Just when I thought It was all lost after only the first day, I started dozing off a little after 6 while the wife was out. Hannah jumped off the couch were we both where and I was aware she had moved the potty but couldn't open my eyes to see what she was doing. Then the smell hit hit me. She had done a massive shite bang in the potty without prompting. Something to build on at least. Now where did I put the Glade?
  17. I think we're going to have to chuck the training pants altogether. I worried about if it would confuse her when we started using them again. Going to work on it this long weekend and hopefully get back on track. There's been no major event in the family other than our recent announcement. At which point she had already reverted back to ways of old. I think it all comes back to the training pants when looking at the picture overall. Like Monkeyblair, I am also not known for having reserves of patience which probably hasn't helped either.
  18. At first we were using the training pants/pull ups. She was going well and was telling us when she needed to go. So we then took the next step and put her in "big girl pants" as things were moving along nicely enough at that time and the training pants were dry for the most part. The second we done this she reverted straight back. We took the step to move back to the training pants for a while at which point she then started doing everything in the training pants again and would not use the potty at all. This has pretty much been the cycle for the past 8 months. When she's at her dance class and her playgroup she'll ask to go if she hears other kids ask. When she's at home it's a bit of a battle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. P.s we tried the let her run about in the house with no pants on but she ended up just pissing on me when sitting on my knee.
  19. A couple of friends have said the same thing about not telling them. From our experiences with them so far this time I wouldn't be surprised if they don't give us a "12 week" scan this time at all. First time round with Hannah they were brand new but proving a little more difficult this time. At 8 weeks my good half went for what she was told was her booking in appointment. Went along and the conversation went as follows Midwife "So you're pregnant?" Mrs A Rios "Em, yes" ****Awkward silence **** Midwife then asked one or two general health questions and that was it. Arranged the booking in appointment for the 9th May by which point we'll be at 14/15 weeks. When we asked why this wasn't the booking appointment she said something about notes or what not and that was it. She wasn't sleeping well and stressed to the high heavens just wanting to know that everything was fine so went to Babybond for the dating scan. On the potty training. Hannah is giving us all sorts of grief with it and she'll be 3 at the end of May. She knows how and what to do and more importantly when to do it but it's so sporadic it's not true. More often than not choosing to soil herself than use the potty or toilet. Frustrating to say the least.
  20. Had a scan on Saturday and everything is going smoothly so far. Having a bit of trouble with midwives so far and as a result our 12 week scan won't be until we're closer to 15 weeks plus so for peace of mind we went private for a dating scan. 2 arms 2 legs and a strong heartbeat Edited to add : The wife had the scan, not me obviously
  21. Kids are awesome. In my room this morning and I let out a cheeky morning fart, my (soon to be) 3 year old turns to me and gasps "Are you ok Daddy? Do you need me to call a plumber?" I fucking hope not!

  22. Heavy snow in Cumbernauld. At this rate today's match will be off and I won't be amused. Will also probably mean that the headboard for the bed that was delivered last week won't arrive again after two failed attempts midweek. f**k OFF SNOW!
