  1. Pretty good listen usually, I'd also recommend this one; https://www.trailwentcold.com/ The Allan Bryant case in Glenrothes is a strange one, seems like there are some solid suspects but police in Fife seem to have a history of either being corrupt or just massively incompetent
  2. Since my wife will be working from home when her 18 month maternity leave ends, we have decided we are going to try not sending our daughter to daycare and just have her here while we work, before my wife went on leave, it seemed like she had long periods of not having too much to do, so fingers crossed that's the case. I'm sure it's not going to be easy but its either that or pay the same amount of money we spend on rent per month to send her to daycare. We would be working just to pay for daycare. The province of Ontario is the only one yet to sign an agreement with Ottawa to reduce childcare costs, probably in no small part thanks to have a Tory government. All the more reason to move out of this province as soon as we can.
  3. I watch this show through the steaming app Brit Box so I'm a little behind, they just added the 9th series which according to Wikipedia aired in 2020. The two part opening episodes are about two weed dealers killing their "mate" in the woods. Had to laugh when the fairly hardy looking boy, Ashley, was talking about how the indie band looking boy, Jordan, was a major player and he feared for his life because of him. I'd imagine both of them being eaten alive if they were dealing anywhere other than the leafy suburbs. It's also strange, living in a country where weed is legal, to think people are making serious money selling it in the UK.
  4. David Ridgen has a new season of The Next Call out, about the murder of a Métis woman in Calgary, didn't realise until today a new season had started. On the last episode of CBC's White Hot Hate podcast, good listen about a white supremacist group called The Base, weirdoes to a man.
  5. A record breaking blizzard on Monday meant the return of the "bobsleigh track" outside our building, the dogs fucking love it!
  6. Sunday night into Monday morning saw a blizzard here, I'd love to say that this being Canada meant everyone just dealt with it in their stride, but since this is Toronto, everyone of course shit the bed, buses and cars stuck all over the place, public transit all but shut down and the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, out trying to win hearts and minds but digging out cars (he looked like a wee kid at the beach digging sand) and giving people lifts home, all while never wearing a mask and while driving and facetiming a local news station, what a province! ETA - Sorry for the crappy screensheet pictures, the originals were too big
  7. I was more than a little anxious after checking the weather forecast last night and learning that, with the windchill, it would feel like -27c this morning, since my daughter insists that she comes out with me when I take the dog out and I like to let my wife have a lie in in the mornings. The danger of frostbite is very real in those temperatures. Thankfully lots of layers and some Vaseline on her cheeks, combined with our dog decided to get straight to business, meant it went a lot smoother than I thought it would. Here is Isla saying "off" , as soon as we get back indoors so wants off all her outerwear as soon as possible.
  8. I was at home, they've got into the building, come up to my floor but left the packages just outside the lift, rather than outside my door about 18 yards away from where they left them.
  9. Been making inquiries to local childcare places as my wife is due to go back to work in March, just been quoted $2325.01. for the first month and registration fee at one place. Childcare prices in this city are a sick joke! We will likely have to go with an unlicensed home day care which is cheaper but means you can not apply for the provincial subsidy. The plan is to move to Saskatchewan in April/May time, a province that has already agreed a reduced childcare cost programme and aims to eventually have a maximum cost of $10 a day. But is could be a few months of building some solid credit card debt! In happier news, I bought Isla a sled for Christmas but wasn't sure how she would take to it, turns out she loves it! We'll get home, take off all her snow clothes then she will go and sit in the sled again, some girl!
  10. Mexico with the typical Latin American "Cannae take it" behaviour after the game, delighted with that result. Like Senorsoupe said previously, the price of playing ice hockey here is massive, all the best Canadian hockey players there days are all rich kids from the suburbs, immigrant's kids are playing football (I'm hoping my kids can play both) I'm intrigued to see what the support for Canada will be like if/when they qualify for the World Cup, how many will get behind the country of their birth rather than the parent's or grandparent's country? Personally I find myself getting slightly more excited about a Canada win these days than I do Scotland
  11. Finished The Unlikely Murderer (Den Osannolika Mördaren) last night, bit of a slow burner, last episode was the best by far, it's about the assassination of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme and his likely killer. The main character is the kind of odd ball that I've definitely worked beside before, good watch and I quite like listening to the sing song Swedish language
  12. Just getting rid of Rosyth then? Sounds good to me.
  13. Really? Do they have good pubs or food? Whitley Bay, and I've only ever played there, while not as bad as it used to be, is horrible for me. Changing rooms, one time I played there, just had a hole in the ground where the toilet used to be, can't remember ever getting hot water in the showers and the ice surface was always gray and looked dangerously thin. Though I should say the away changing rooms at Braehead weren't great either. I thought when I saw the signings Fife were making in the summer that they would struggle, signing guys from the Swedish 3rd tier and a Saskatchewan men's league wouldn't have filled me with hope if I was a fan, seems like I was right so far
  14. The voting times are a bit different in Canada, as below; Time zone Voting hours (local time) Newfoundland Time 8:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m. Atlantic Time 8:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m. Eastern Time 9:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m. Central Time* 8:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m. Mountain Time* 7:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. Pacific Time 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. So they kind of line up with Pacific only closing half an hour after the Eastern Time zone And yes the People's Party are right wing, they have a real problem with immigrants, ironic considering they are all probably the children/grandchildren/great grandchildren of immigrants themselves. Good to see they got absolutely zero seats
  15. I was hoping for an NDP win but knowing they had pretty much no chance Liberals were my second choice as I read they supported the $10 a day childcare plan, wasn't till this morning they plan to have it in place "within 5 years" Just in time for my wee one to start school anyway.
  16. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12396713/jamie-vardy-re-brands-us-football-club-rochester-new-york-fc-ahead-of-professional-return Jamie Vardy is having none of it!
  17. Hardy Bucks is a prime example of this.
  18. would support knocking down all the Fife villages west of Cairneyhill (expect Culross) to facilitate a railway line or just do it without the railway line anyway
  19. Should have told them don't worry, it's not Canada ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Tim_McLean I've taken the Greyhound a couple of times here, first time was when my work permit was about to expire and I had to leave the country and come back over a border check point to get my work permit renewed. I booked a weekend in Buffalo, normally the route would take you over the border at Fort Erie and right into Buffalo, the driver decided it would be "quicker" to cross at Niagara Falls, the journey took 2 hours longer, on the way back I held up the whole bus waiting on getting my work permit renewed as the Canadian border guard had to wait until the hour until they could log into a computer to print my new permit. Driver said he appreciated getting a paid break while he waited on me. Second time I took The Greyhound was to Sudbury on my way to Manitoulin Island, the first stop after Downtown Toronto a guy got on with NS (Native Syndicate) tattooed on his face and hands, I silently hoped he wouldn't sit in the seat next to me, he didn't, instead a fat white guy got on at Parry Sound and sat next to me because and I quote "you're skinny" and I wished the gang member had sat next to me.
  20. If you can't afford a car in North America, outside of a select few cities, then you can just f**k right off it seems. I've never appreciated it before but the Jamestown Viaduct between North Queensferry and Inverkeithing is a beautiful piece of work - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamestown_Viaduct
  21. I was recently assigned to a project in another area of our business along with 4 of my colleagues, we all had exactly the same training from one of the actual trainers in the company, we also have the boss of the other department and three other more experienced colleagues that we were told to direct questions towards. Instead 3 of the 4 people assigned to the project with me have decided I’m the one they should ask all their (often stupid) questions to. Apart from questions about the new work we are doing, which they could answer themselves if only they had paid attention in training, I’ve been asked how to search for something in Excel, is a phone number out of service if I get a message telling me it is out of service? How do I copy the contents of an email onto a word document? How do I move documents from one folder to another? Why can’t I see the date in Excel? (the column was too small) and Why can’t I get these two documents to sit beside each other in the folder like yours? I sometimes wonder if they just pulled all the morons from our department to work from this other one, and how much of a moron that makes me.

  23. https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/pm-trudeau-expected-to-launch-federal-election-on-sunday-sources-1.5544491 Was hoping to have my Citizenship in time to vote in the next Federal Election, Trudeau has other ideas. Right now I can't vote in any country but hoping Jagmeet Singh wins, Trudeau is a bit shite and the man with the least unlikely Tory name going, Erin O'Toole seems little better.
