  1. As always pretty much, I agree with you. I'm not even that wary though. More than happy to give Levein and Kirk a chance. I like the balance. Levein has been the course, Kirk is a new voice on the training ground and Cleland has a knowledge of what is already in place.
  2. Saints have had success in giving young managers a chance but you can't just stick to a template when circumstances change. We need a manager of men who can call on a good degree of experience, and probably in this country. The idea after that two years of abject shite that the board were gonna throw everything behind anything but that was never happening. When Martindale and Lennon distanced themselves from the job, it narrowed the options but the club have clearly decided themselves upon targeting Levein and they've largely made good decisions down the years, right up to Steve Brown deciding to just phone it in with the last one. I'm not sure the situation we are in ever lends itself to being excited about an appointment but if it is Levein and Andy Kirk then it's one I can get behind.
  3. Was thinking he probably knows Scotland in much the same way you know Mykonos, having scored there a bit 20 years ago...
  4. Costelloe and Robinson as wing backs. These really are special times we are living in.
  5. Scott Brown saying he was interested in the job would immediately shorten his odds surely, especially when Martindale and Lennon have distanced themselves.
  6. That's how I feel as well. I'm sure I remember reading stuff Hearts fans were saying when he was sacked and it so much echoed our complaints about Davidson. His Hearts team looked alright at times but he just kept with the same things when it stopped working. And, as someone else maybe said I think, a charisma vacuum.
  7. They need someone that is going to come in and command instant respect. A leader of men. Even under Davidson we never really had that fire. When things were good it was because we were an incredibly well coached side. We didn't always have that side of things under Tommy Wright but you knew that, as a group, they had that ability to dig deep and find something when it mattered. There wasn't a team with a.bigger heart than Saints for much of his time here. IMO, it's more important we get back to that than the coaching side of things first and foremost. Of course that is important but just being well structured isn't going to be enough for us. He may well have no interest in the job but I would certainly ask the question of Neil Lennon.
  8. Hold the fucking bus, there is a new captain at the helm.
  9. MacLean should be toast. His threats are as hollow as they come and must surely only be alienating a group of players we need to get a tune out of for the next 7 months because, make no mistake, we cannot throw money at this again in January. Tactically he's hopeless as well. The only defence for him now will be he took over in a tough situation and hasn't had much time. But neither is a reason to keep a manager that is still under performing, but also showing zero signs of having anything about him. Sack him today before we fluke a win over the next fortnight then limp on for a few more weeks just doing more long-term damage. Continuity was never the right approach when Davidson was emptied but I tried to get behind the appointment and was open to what he talked about doing in the summer. Any manager deserves that. It's been a disaster though and I can't endure us making the same mistake as with Davidson and struggling on in this manner for a year plus longer than we should have. Act now.
  10. Can't comment on the fourth goal as I was approaching the Kingston Bridge but the first three all chronic. Centre back up taking a throw in at the corner flag (when none of the long throw options can even reach the six-yard box) then Brown can't deal with a ball forward. Brown at the second is just criminal and he's cost us once again. How many games has he started this season cause he's cost us three of them. Don't give a toss how distraught he looked, absolutely basic mistakes. Third goal again a centre back in a shit area taking a throw that jeopardises any shape we have. The squad is full of crap but are being abominably managed as well. Another expensive mistake from Steve Brown. Get rid.
  11. It's amazing what one top six finish in essentially 40 years does to a support base. They could learn a lot from the humility of Scotland's second most successful club in the past decade.
  12. Change of referee confirmed. Credit where it's due to authorities for listening. Saints presented a strong case against the Renfrew man, not just of evidence from the last time he did this fixture but also of other decisions he's made in favour of St Mirren. Game handed to Dougie Yeats, which I'm sure we can all agree is far more palatable.
  13. St Johnstone have lodged an official complaint with the SFA and SPFL after David Dickinson was handed this fixture. Club were assured previously he wouldn't be given another of our fixtures in Paisley.
  14. I wouldn't concern yourselves too much with Cammy MacPherson. He must be about due another injury.
  15. Smith was fine in the first half but completely vanished for much of the second. He had 2 touches in 21 minutes between about 65 and 85 minutes. Maybe he tired but you need more from your central midfielder when under pressure. I still don't look at this team and see it as a long-term solution to anything but maybe, with two draws, it's given us something to build from.
  16. I'm gonna put it out there but I actually enjoyed the match. I thought in the conditions, both teams served up something better than they might have. Saints moved the ball well in the first half and Aberdeen had a real go at us for much of the second. The Pittodrie away end isn't for the faint-hearted but I like watching a game from there, the history oozes out of the place. What I don't enjoy though is the hostile reception party dressed in high visibility that are always there to welcome you. It's fucking chucking down with rain, mate, why the f**k am I having to empty my pockets whilst you feel every inch of my body other than those that neither of us want you to be acquainted with? Nothing of that proportion happens anywhere else. I've had less rigorous checks at the airport. Mind you, shouldn't give them ideas. There will be body scanners next time we visit...
  17. Wonder what the Livingston fans thought about the decision not given first up in this clip? Still time to go back and delete the posts...
  18. First chance to see the Liam Gordon tackle again this morning. Have we now moved past the "winning the ball isn't enough" directive to "you don't even need to make contact" now? It's a red every day of the week if the tackling leg makes contact but when it doesn't? Is that really a thing? Also mental when you remember what he avoided a second yellow (on field) or red (VAR) for against Ross County a few weeks ago. So very fortunate that wasn't his second red of the season. Kind of shows where he unfortunately is right now. Folk will say VAR hasn't overturned the penalty because it isn't a clear and obvious error, or whatever the nonsense is, and it wouldn't have been given as one if the referee hadn't pointed to the spot. Fine in theory but we all know there will be situations this season where they do overrule such decisions. It's everything I feared it would be.
  19. I'm glad folk can still find positives every week but we are really talking baby steps when we have a lion hunting us down. Costelloe was better through the middle and Jephcott was better in a two. Sprangler and Phillips won a lot of good potential turnover balls but (negative) we rarely made the most of the transition situations, as the manager would call them. Back to three at the back but it wasn't horrendous and didn't feel like we had that extra defender/missing attacker balance wrong as was the case under Davidson at home once Kerr wasn't a part of it. Robinson is enthusiastic, if limited. Pulling just these sort of positives every week isn't going to take us up the table. A win yesterday would have been great but that team selection was never one we could move forward with. Finally, move on etc... but I still look at this side most weeks and can't believe that David Wotherspoon wouldn't have enhanced it with a proper pre-season behind him.
