  1. Hello BigT - To be truthful; you coming onto the Bo'ness site all guns blazing earlier and followed up beachboy kind of un-nerved me. It would be good to know who the people were at my club as I have never opened any account to interact or speak to people at Tranent. Look back on Pie and Bovril - maybe Tranent page or the Premier league page. I have spoken with Belter a few times, and i think with Halfwit also - mainly if i remember when we were both in the old Premier league side for the Juniors - or the previous year when Tranent won the two cups. I know the occasion you are talking about; (Either Sauchie or Peebles?) . I stopped, shook hands and spoke to Calvin for a few minutes (think the boy from one of your big sponsors was standing beside Calv). I got/get on well with Calv and it shouldn't be any different now. I am passionate about my team, always have been always will be - got into a wee tussle on Saturday with DD of Bo'ness and also with Belter a couple of months back. Both 'discussions' ended - I think well or just came to a natural conclusion. No doubt after Saturday's match the same thing may happen; (or not - if all I do is pee people off?) as long as the posts / tweets are about genuine feelings of the match. absolutely no harm in that. Interested to know BigT (when you had your chat last Saturday) if any of your committee suggested I have done something out of order or said things that I shouldn't have as I don't think I have. I give as good as I get and vice verse - sometime I win the conversation - sometimes I lose. I'd be happy to have a to chat with you on Saturday. Only thing is - you would need to catch me as I haven't got a clue who you are. Genuinely am looking forward to the match on Saturday. We played you in a bounce match last season, in the 3G pitch,( in wet conditions) behind your ground. Was a tough match for us that night. No reason to doubt this will be any different. I am lovely too - maybe my directness on these forums suggest otherwise? Cheers for the chat!
  2. I am not the person who opened up the account for Betty Spence - seems a bit of a witch-hunt going on here?
  3. Hope I don't face the wrath of BigTboy by responding here!! After getting beat by Preston and Crossgates in the previous two weeks, while I always think Musselburgh will win every match, in the back of my mind, I wasn't relishing the prospect of Saturday's match. However, having competed well and winning on Saturday against Bo'ness, I think the Musselburgh guys are now in better shape for the Derby. Will be interesting to see how many of ex-Musselburgh players start on Saturday for Tranent. Will also be good to see, at first hand, the improvements that Tranent has made to their ground in the last few months.
  4. Not got a clue who Betty Spence is! Only have one face. You seem to know why I am from your comments so you know I don't hide my face as it is on my twitter account. Not obsessed either - you will see that I had comments, particularly with Belter on here about ex-Musselburgh players now at Tranent. I said at that time, that it used to be Nitten where all our ex-players went and now it is Tranent; so just making some points/comments. Do you think people on this forum should only write about their own club and not about any others? Only comment I have made in last couple of months concerning your club is saying that Skip is the best player i have seen at this level in a number of years - nothing detrimental about that. At least I know why I am blocked now from Tranent's twitter account so thank you.. A bit silly for a club to do that but there you go. Would it not have been better for someone to message to say give it a break if they were unhappy? I talk mainly about football on twitter and obviously on this forum. I engage in 'conversation' with a lot of different people on both forums - some arguments/discussions I 'win' others I 'lose' but that is the way it goes. Twitter and P&B is meant to be enjoyable, and yip, have a healthy debate like you quip.
  5. Musselburgh under 20s second match of the season saw them at home tonight against East Lothian rivals Haddington Athletic under 20s, playing their third match. Kick off was at 7:45pm. Within the first 4 minutes of the match, Haddington had three shots, all of which went out of the park towards the Pinkie burn. Wind had not even picked up at this time so the away side’s management team could not be happy at these early attempts. Musselburgh’s first shot on target came in 10 minutes, but Jay Murray’s attempt went straight to the Hihi keeper. Haddington’s best effort came in 15 minutes when Guy McGarry hit a shot from a tight angle. Blair Orr saved the shot and the ball was cleared from the penalty area. Next forward attack from Musselburgh saw Ciaran Young play ball to Jay Murray, who was one on one with the keeper, Morgan Rutherford. The shot from Jay Murray produced a good save from the keeper. Twenty-five minutes on the clock and Lewis Latimer challenged the Hihi centre half Daniel Lennie with a shoulder charge and went by with only the goalie in front. However, the referee blew for a foul, much to the annoyance of the Burgh bench. Haddington keeper, Rutherford, was involved in thwarting two attacks, the first from Latimer and the second from Liam Reid, who saw the ball bounce unfavourable for him but gave Rutherford time to clear the danger. Best chance of match came from Hihi left back Euan Mitchell, with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Mitchell hit a strong shot towards goal but Blair Orr was equal to this and turned the ball round for a corner. Haddington were now on the ascendancy and in final few minute of half, the centre forward had three quick chances. Brandon Blair’s first shot just went over the bar; his second went wide of the right hand side post. Blair then beat two Burgh players to get into the box, but his shot just went wide of the post again. Half time 0-0. Burgh made two substitutes with Jay and Shaun off and replaced by Declan Paterson and Khasim Mdalasini. Within two minutes of the restart, Guy McGarry is in on goal with only Blair Orr to beat. The shot produces a great save by Orr. The first goal came in 53 minutes. From the edge of the box, Lewis Latimer hammered a shot in, to the right of the goalkeeper Rutherford, and high into the net. Musselburgh 1 - 0 Haddington. Soon after, a good Musselburgh move saw Ciaran Young pass to Khasim. As he was about to take a shot, a great last ditch tackle by Guy McGarry, took the ball away from the penalty area. In 62 minutes, Khasim played ball to Lewis Latimer. Rutherford half-blocked Khasim’s shot, but then ball went over his head. The keeper quickly turned and grabbed the ball just before it went over the line. On 66 minutes, Haddington had a great chance to equalise, but a shot produced a great block by Blair and the ball went out for a throw-in. As the ball again came into the box, Guy McGarry again tried to score, but the ball just went by wrong side of post. The second goal of the match came in 78 minutes. Musselburgh sub, Declan Paterson had ball in his own half. It looked as if Declan was going to pass the ball cross-field. Good fortune though, saw the ball move forward, into the path of Khasim Mdalasini. He went round keeper and slotted ball into the net. Musselburgh 2 - 0 Haddington. Fast flowing football saw the ball move up and down pitch for both teams. Then in final few minutes ball was with Haddington’s Jay Hampshire. He lost control of ball, but it came to Guy McGarry, who puts a good cross into the box. The Burgh keeper, Blair Orr managed to block the ball and Ethan Wayne cleared. No more goals and the result was Musselburgh U20s 2 - 0 Haddington U20s. With two matches played, Burgh have six points on the board, while Haddington only have one point to show from three matches played. Sequence of goals; 1-0 Latimer; 2-0 Mdalasini
  6. Cheers BigWullie. i am like DD, in that I am happy to debate if I think I am right and other person is wrong. I try and be as fair as I can with comments and it is healthy when we don’t agree on everything. i did have a heated discussion with two Bo’ness supporters around the time of the melee, after your captain got sent off. I agreed that one of our players should have been sent off during that incident. By end of match, the three of us spoke in a much friendlier way. Emotions are high in some matches, but any disagreements should end with the match! I can agree with T! They, as a club have blocked me on Twitter, cause I express my opinion and am passionate about my team! Nothing I say on twitter should cause any blocking, but someone took the hump big time!
  7. Bigwullie not happy with my comments. It’s all about opinion and even DD didn’t give it a red mark! Be interested in your own thoughts Bigwullie or were you not at the match?
  8. Musselburgh's form in 2019-20 has not been all that good. Having lost four out of the first six competitive matches, for Musselburgh to advance into the next round of the Alex Jack cup, improvements on the pitch would need to be sizeable. Six changes were made to last week's team, who lost 2-1 away to Crossgates. Out went Cherrie, Downie, Gregory, McBay, O'Kane and trialist Proctor. In came Jordan Orru, for his first competitive match of the season (injured in pre-season), Tom Clare, Michael Moffat, Jackie Myles, Mathu King and Conor Thomson. The second round tie, against Bo'ness kicked off at 14:29. The first 10 minutes were largely quiet. That is when the first goal was scored. Jordan Orru took a throw-in on the left hand side of the pitch. Conor Thomson then crossed the ball into the box. Mathu King collected and went passed the Bo'ness left back Syme. Seeing a gap, Mathu King hit the ball between Syme and Hunter and gave the keeper Murphy no chance. One-nil to Musselburgh. Five minutes later Bo'ness were pressing for the equaliser. As the shot was fired, a number of away fans shouted 'goal'; but this was a bit premature as the ball flew over the bar and out of the ground! On 19 minutes, Burgh were unlucky not to go 2-0 up. Nathan Evens played the ball a bit too far in front of Jack Gillan. However, the ball was chased down and from the right edge of the box, Jack Gillan's shot came back across the goal area. Mathu King lunged at the ball and if he connected, ball was in the net. However, it was not to be and ball was out for a goal kick. With 23 minutes played, Bo'ness had three chances in quick succession. The first was a shot on goal, which Michael Moffat controlled in the six yard box and moved out of the penalty box. However, Bo'ness got the ball back and the away side pressed up the left wing. As the cross came in, the Bo'ness captain, Donnelly, got his head to the ball. It looked as if the equaliser was there, but Paul Grant got a touch to the ball, which then came back off the bar and scrambled away for a corner. As the Bo'ness fans cheered with expectation, the corner came in. The big centre half Hunter was one yard from goals but somehow managed to header the ball wide and put another ball out of the ground. The great escape music could have come on at that point for Musselburgh. Only three minutes later, Musselburgh extended the lead. Ball was played to Conor Thomson who hit a bullet shot from 25 yards. Although the keeper attempted to save the rocket, he had no chance as the ball flew into the back of the net. Musselburgh now led 2-0. On the half hour mark, things got worse for Bo'ness. Hunter put in a strong tackle on Nathan Evans, who landed on the ground. Something must have been said as Nathan Evans quickly got up, only for Hunter to head butt the Burgh player and a straight red card was awarded. A few minutes later and Bo'ness lost their influential midfielder/defender Gemmell. A long ball out of the Musselburgh defence saw Mathu King attempt to collect, but Murphy ran out of his box at the same time. The result was that the Bo'ness keeper poll-axed Gemmell and he took no further part in the match. Snowden was the first substitute of the match, coming on with around eight minutes remaining of the first half. Into injury time in the first half,, Bo'ness pressed for a goal. As they advanced up the field, the referee blew for a free kick; much to the annoyance of a few of the supporters behind Paul Grant's goal, as they wanted play to continue. The free kick was taken by the no.14, Grant. On the half volley, Snowden curled the ball into the net. Same supporters were now laughing and cheering! Half time: Musselburgh 2 - 1 Bo'ness. Within a minute of the re-start, Bo'ness went on the attack and a shot by Donnelly was cleared for a corner by Michael Moffat. Nothing came of that. On 47 minutes, Jono McManus brought down a Bo'ness forward. Supporters and some of the Bo'ness players were looking for a red card but the referee produced the yellow. From the free kick, Grant blasted the ball over the bar. Around 10 minutes later: Bo'ness were reduced to nine men. The captain Donnelly made a crunching tackle on Jack Gillan. What followed was a melee involving several players for both teams. This was brought quickly under control and Donnelly was shown the red card, reducing Bo'ness to 9 men. Burgh's Tom Clare should have considered himself very lucky not to be shown a red card as well, for his part in the aftermath. Indeed; it was amazing no other cards were produced in the 30 seconds of madness which followed the tackle. Bo'ness showed no signs of giving in as they pressed for a goal to bring themselves back into the match. There were also dubious tackles still coming in, with Morgan lucky not to be the 3rd player to be red carded, following a rash challenge on Musselburgh's Jordan Orru. In 63 and 65 minutes, Musselburgh had chances to increase the lead. Mathu King brought out a good save ftom the Bo'ness keeper; then Jackie Myles ' shot was blocked. Tom Clare was shown a yellow card on 67 minutes, after he barged into a Bo'ness player, who then remonstrated that Tom Clare had used an elbow. A minute later and the match should have been level. A cross into the box found Syme. From two yards, Syme failed to hit the target and the ball went over the bar. From the goal kick, up went Musselburgh. Mathu King passed the ball to Jordan Orru; standing on the left wing. From a tight angle Jordan Orru’s shot flew over the outstretched Murphy and dipped between the bar and the post for a spectacular goal. With 69 minutes gone, Burgh led 3-1 to Musselburgh and there was jubilation for Musselburgh players and supporters alike. Fans of Bo'ness were moaning that it was a freak goal, from a mis-placed cross. However, their memories were short, as 10 minutes before; Jordan Orru attempted an almost identical shot, but the initial effort came off the far side post. On 73 minutes Mathu King was replaced by Daniel McBay with Nimmo coming off for Comrie for the away side. Five minutes after and Murphy made a good save from a jack Gillan shot. From the corner, Jackie Myles' shot went wide of the post. This was followed with Bradley Whyte being booked for bringing a Bo'ness player down. Another header and another miss, this time by the Bo'ness scorer Snowdon. Paul Grant then made two saves in quick succession to keep the Bo'ness team at bay. A late substitution saw Michael Moffat replaced by the Burgh Under 20 player Khasim Mdalasini. Into injury time and another booking, this time for Stevenson of Bo'ness, for a challenge on Jackie Myles. One of the Bo'ness committee was rather irate at this, but it was clearly a booking. From the resultant free kick, Conor Thomson rattled the Bo'ness post. Full time: Musselburgh 3-1 Bo'ness. A great result which put the home side into the Quarter finals of the Alex Jack cup. Bo’ness players and fans may feel the result was unjust, given the amount of chances they squandered. However, Musselburgh missed a few chances themselves, particularly the two shots that hit the post. Overall, the correct result! The contrast from last week's performance and on Saturday was huge! Musselburgh battled from the start and were worthy winners of this cup tie. For the first time this sesson, the right and left back positions were filled by players expected to play there; namely Michael Moffat and Jordan Orru. Both had great matches and steadied what had been a nervous back four in recent weeks. Bradley Whyte returned to his best position - at the back of midfield and sometimes reverting to sweeper. He had an immense game. Not sure who got the Supporters club man of match but these three players stood out for the note taker!! It was a brand new midfield from last week; each and everyone of them give their all. Front line were also pressing hard and Paul Grant's second half performance was his best since he arrived at the club.
  9. Eight players who took part in last season’s East of Scotland cup final against Bo’ness, on 12 May also took part in yesterday’s Alex Jack cup tie against the same team. May be no coincidence that this was Burgh’s best performance of this season, so far!
  10. DD - I agree with you that a lot about football is subjective, that is why it’s good having these forums, to talk about matches and whether we agree or not, continue to read/comment on future reports. Goalie..... or he could be 5ft 6 and stand back two feet, and the save is his! Again, on a one off shot, I agree with you, but when he tried it minutes before ..... Also, I heard Jordan has a great job, so the lure of Mussy as opposed to Manchy (??) maybe not as far fetched as you would first assume! Look forward to coming through early October, for our first league match. Do you think your ground will be ready by then?
  11. Cheers J and glad to see the dodgy stories doesnt appear to have any lasting after effects!
  12. When I saw that comment, I went ouch - especially as Bo’ness run a page purely on Bo’ness history! But if RobM is who I think he is, he is only 9, so doesn’t have a huge memory bank. His thoughts probably only go back three years?! If that be the case,he is technically right as we are on a two match winning street - going for a hat-trick later on this season.
  13. So how did your match go today b_m? Not seen any results yet
  14. Maybe because we have lost 4 out of 6 matches this season, you could say it was some surprise for Burgh to win today. But, Burgh fans would have been confident. Our cup final at the end of last season, which Bo’ness won, was a very closely contested affair. Also our last match at Olivebank against Bo’ness, when both Junior clubs, resulted in a 1-0 win for Burgh!
  15. On a lighter note - I am sure Jamboness will be fine! Never had the stories myself but each week you can see supporters coming back with the wee white box, so the taste must be better than the look!
  16. Not giving you that! The third goal was no miss hit! Ten minutes before, the same guy hit the same cross / shot which flew over your goal keeper but came off the post. At that time, I thought it looked more like a cross. However, roll on the 10 minutes and Jordan does the exact same thing. Again flies over your goalie, who obviously learnt nothing from the first time. Showed to me, it was no mis-hit cross. Second sending off. My first reaction was red card and I don’t think it was a 50/50 challenge! I do agree with you the the Burgh player was fortunate to stay on! No doubt he should have walked too. Not sure if you were the guy in the middle of the enclosure arguing with the Burgh supporter? Two of your elderly supporters behind me were moaning too about that, but soon shut up when I agreed with them about the non-Burgh sending off.
  17. It seems at the moment, every second match is a cup tie! Tomorrow, Bo’ness are the visitors to Olivebank, for the 2nd round of the Alex Jack Cup. In the 1st round, Musselburgh were comfortable winners, beating Peebles Rovers 6-0, in a match played at Olivebank, since Whitestone Park was unavailable. Bo’ness had an equally comfortable victory, beating Newtongrange Star 5-1 at New Victoria Park. The last time both teams met was last season, in the East of Scotland Cup Final, held at Penicuik Park on 12 May. In a close affair Bo’ness won the final 1-0. From the starting line up on that day, only Ally Adams is not still at Musselburgh, so, how many of the remaining 10 will start tomorrow? Musselburgh come into this match in disappointing form, having lost their last two matches, both away, against Preston Athletic and Crossgates. Meanwhile, Bo’ness recently beat Oakley 4-2 at home and last week, got a good 1-0 win up at Jeanfield. Contrasting form, but who will be in the 3rd round draw come 5pm tomorrow? Kick off is at 2:30pm.
  18. Tough match, this Saturday when Bo'ness are the visitors to Olivebank. Two wins out of six matches this season is not the start Burgh wanted. Hopefully a few players, not available last week, will return so we can give a good account of ourselves.
  19. SH1T!! Have you changed your name? A guy has caught me out previously with sloppy stats - but I did not think it was you!! Thanks very much for this and a reminder for me to check twice (already read through it once) to ensure accuracy!! Stats are crap if they are wrong!! Anyway - I am grateful that someone is prepared to read the notes - even if it is to spot the deliberate (or NOT) mistake!!
  20. After a couple of weeks playing cup competitions, it was back to league business. This week, Musselburgh crossed over the bridge to take on Crossgates who were at the foot of the table, having lost their opening two matches. Musselburgh were a few places higher, having won one match and losing the other two. There were four changes from last weekend. Tom Clare, Mathu King, Scott McNaughton and Jackie Myles all dropped to the bench. In came Jack Gillon, Gary Cherrie, Liam Gregory and a trialist who stood alongside today’s captain, Jono McManus in central defence. Musselburgh seemed to start the brighter of the two teams in the first five or so minutes although there was not much activity in front of goal. It was Crossgates who created the first attempt on goal, but a poor header by centre forward, Lawrie, ended that chance. Crossgates were again on the attack, with a one-two between Templeton and Lawrie. The tall midfielder, then passed ball out to McAteer on the left wing. His cross was met by a volley from Lawrie, which went wide of the post. First goal of the match came in fifteen minutes. Ball was kicked out of the Burgh box and Daniel McBay ran to keep the ball in play. However, all that happened was that ball fell to a Crossgates player. A minute later, after an exchange of tackles, McAteer who was standing at the edge of the box, hit a looping shot high into the net. Crossgates led 1-0. Five minutes later and another goal to the home side. Ball was out on the left wing. As it swung over, Aitken’s shot flew past Paul Grant. Crossgates now 2-0 up. By now Crossgates were on the ascendancy and Musselburgh did not seem to have any answers. It looked as if it was to get worse on 31 minutes. Liam Gregory brought down a Crossgates player on the edge of the box. As the whistle blew, the referee pointed to the spot. It was only when the Burgh assistant manager, Scott McNaughton, shouted at the linesman that the tackle was outside the box, that the referee went over to speak to his official. Following this, the decision was reversed and a free kick given. No yellow card awarded. Templeton took the free kick and the trialist kicked it out for a corner. Ball came to the no.7 Sawers, but his shot skied over the bar. Half time Crossgates 2 - 0 Musselburgh. Jackie Myles replaced Daniel McBay at the start of the 2nd half. The first touch by Jackie Myles, resulted in the referee having a word as he blew for a foul. The best effort in the early exchanges of the second half, fell to Musselburgh. On 55 minutes, the ball was played through the middle of the park. Declan O’Kane’s shot from 20 yards had to be tipped over the bar by the Crossgates goalie, Henderson. Fast moving football saw the home side in attack and Paul Grant made a diving save from Sawers’ shot. Straight back up the field went Musselburgh. Bradley Whyte past a couple of Crossgates defenders, taking the ball into the goal area, but the pass was too soft and trickled into the hands of Henderson. Soon after Musselburgh were again on the attack. Nathan Evans had the option of passing forward to Darren Downie. Instead Nathan Evans shot from outside the box and Henderson had to make the save. Liam Gregory ran onto the re-bound and crossed the ball high into the goal area. There was a scramble for the ball but Crossgates cleared the danger. First Crossgates sub saw Templeton replaced by McDonald on 61 minutes. Three minutes later Moffat (the Crossgates midfielder, who seemed to be running the show) got the ball in the Burgh box. A great chance to make it 3-0, but Paul Grant saved and hopefully kept Musselburgh in the match. The Burgh trialist was the first to receive a yellow card for a tackle at the edge of his box on 66 minutes. Couple of minutes later and Jono McManus should also have received a yellow for an infringement after the ball was away from him. From the free kick, ball was touched to Lawrie and his shot just went over the bar. In 73 minutes, Musselburgh were awarded an indirect free kick in the Crossgates goal area as Henderson picked up the ball from a pass back. Instead of battering the free kick, ball was played back to Declan O’Kane. By the time the shot came, the defenders had narrowed the angles and put ball out for a throw in. Just inside the Burgh half, Declan O’Kane went up for, what looked like a 50-50 challenge. However, the Crossgates player came tumbling down. To the surprise of all connected with Musselburgh the ref produced a red card. There was a bit of a melee afterwords with Declan O’Kane pushed to the ground. Incident quickly over and Musselburgh were down to 10 men for the last 15 minutes. In 79 minutes, Musselburgh gave themselves a lifeline, with a dipping header, in the box, from the trialist which brought the score back to 2 - 1. Burgh brought Mathu King on for Darren Downie with six minutes remaining in a last ditch effort to get the equaliser. Henderson was then next in the ref’s book; a yellow card for time wasting. Not to be for Musselburgh and after around five minutes of injury time, the final whistle went. Crossgates won the match 2-1. By virtue of a ‘better’ negative goal difference than a couple of other sides - Musselburgh do not find themselves in the bottom three; with only 3 points from 4 matches. Crossgates win takes them off the foot of the table.
  21. Daniel is a good player. One of four Under20s from last season who were signed up by Musselburgh Athletic. He won the players player and the management player of the year awards for 2018-19. Has started the last three matches for Burgh and was voted the supporters club player of the match in the first on. Was subbed at half time yesterday, but it was a match to forget for all the players!
